Chapter 886: Chapter 869: Giants and Slaves

”MacDonald and Louis, have you both lost your minds!?”

Klimte furiously questioned, while holding the Sacred Double Forked Spear like a scepter, slamming it into the ground in front of him.

”Thud!”

Though it was a finely crafted light spear, and the wielder wasn’t a strong warrior, under the supernatural power, the impact sound was enough to shock anyone.

[Miracle·Original Force]!

A ring of white light shockwaves expanded without a blind spot, with Klimte’s hands gripping the double-fork spear as the center!

This is a [Miracle] mastered by weapon-wielding clergy at the beginning of their learning journey.

It can repel nearby enemies or deflect projectiles and arrows.

Klimte was the archbishop, and when he unleashed it, the white shockwaves almost obliterated all the fireballs within range.

But in the end, he was just one person.

Facing Louis and MacDonald on the other side, although they hadn’t used advanced magic yet, the sheer number of clergy was troublesome enough.

The fireballs seemed to fill the entire field of vision, rushing over in the church hall!

Even with the grandeur of the Profound Church, it felt crowded at this moment.

The Maggot Men, unable to be reached by Klimte’s [Original Force], were too slow in their movements and were immediately blown up into pieces.

Their corpulent limbs charred and burst under the fireballs, spraying liquids and minced meat.

Then, driven by pain, they twisted and rolled on the ground like real maggots.

Yet even so, their faith in the Mother of Rebirth didn’t give them any thought of retreat.

”For Rosalie!”

The Maggot Men shouted, struggling to crawl forward in the rain of fireballs, then risked exposure to stand up straight and launch their [Miracle] counterattack below.

As for the professional warriors, these fireballs, though dense, couldn’t cause any casualties.

Leonard seemed to be a decent mage.

He had a small magic staff at his waist, emitting the same blue light as the mages Lann had seen.

Then, when he finished shaking the staff, a massive blue glow spear shot from the staff’s tip.

The enormous blue spear, just half the thickness of an average person, shattered all the fireballs in its path before exploding among the clergy.

This seemed not to cause physical damage; the attacked clergy immediately collapsed.

But neither their bodies nor clothing showed any signs of physical harm.

Forceful yet causing no physical damage... was it magic that harmed the soul?

Lann pondered to himself.

In this world, souls were born after the First Flame appeared.

Thus, they are intimately connected to intelligent life, making them relatively easy to study and interact with.

At least more so than in the Magic Middle Ages.

Among the nearby warriors, a knight covered in spines was agilely dodging fireballs.

And the Thunder Axe Knight Clayton, scorned by Sirius and even provoking his desire to act, now displayed traits equally despicable.

He directly lifted a corpse of a Maggot Man beside him, using it as a shield in front of him.

Lann had no doubt that if a living Maggot Man was closer to him, he would have done the same.

Truly a disgusting scum.

Lann could now view the Maggot Men as ordinary people.

And this guy’s actions were akin to pushing a comrade into the line of fire on the battlefield.

But now wasn’t the time to deal with him.

”Swish, swish, swish~”

A sharp and crisp sound of breaking through the air, bright blade lights flickered in Lann’s hand, immediately slicing the fireballs shooting at him in half.

The fireballs, losing their structural integrity, could only rapidly disperse in the air, leaving behind a harmless wave of heat.

The mechanical fireballs from the clergy ultimately only caused significant damage to similarly sluggish Maggot Men.

However, the Profound Church did not solely rely on such strength...

”Ugh... awooo!”

From under the rusted iron mask on their faces came a roar that made the air ripple!

Two giants walked towards them with heavy steps.

Their chains and shackles on their limbs, symbols of their slavery, jingled as they moved.

”I command you to stop in the name of the White Sect Archbishop!”

Klimte shouted at the top of his lungs.

The giants seemed not very intelligent or simply unclear-minded.

They hadn’t been corrupted by the Profound forces, only obeying White Sect identities.

Klimte’s status was very influential, but the opposing side also had White Sect archbishops, and two at that.

So Klimte’s order could only make one giant return to its original position, while the other continued roaring towards them.

”Traitors! Traitors!”

Leonard exclaimed hatefully.

And MacDonald seemed to relish seeing them in impotent rage, laughing heartily below.

The nearly twenty-meter-high giant’s arms were long enough to reach everywhere on this second-floor balcony!

”My Lord, please do not eat that giant yet. Let him clear a path for us first.”

Archbishop Louis suddenly called out respectfully to the space below the second-floor balcony.

There, a large mass of black sludge writhed incessantly.

The echoes of souls reverberated throughout the Profound Church, blending with the shouts of battle, prayers, and the whooshing sound of magic, making the filthy, viscous sound seem somewhat ethereal.

”I won’t eat... won’t eat... a giant’s soul is bland and tasteless... I want to eat human souls... the souls of gods!”

[Lord of Cinder], [Profound Saint]... just how strong was Elderidge, Lann did not have a clear concept.

But even so, when the echoes of Elderidge’s soul were released, the terrifying and profound nature of his power was enough to make one tremble with dread!

It wasn’t a psychological oppression, but a tangible, powerful oppression!

Lann was relatively fine, experiencing only dizziness amidst the soul echoes. It seemed the [Holy Chant Gland] in his brain allowed him to withstand this pressure easily.

The performance of the other strong warriors, though not as impressive as his, was still manageable.

But some warriors clearly could not withstand it.

”Ugh!!!”

They screamed, clutching their heads, while blood flowed from their ears and eyes, more and more blood, until... their eyes glowed red!

Meanwhile, the priests below showed no reaction to Elderidge’s voice.

As someone with a deep understanding of the Profound Church, Lann knew: this was the infectious nature of the profound power.

The Profound Church was established by Losric to handle the undead, a burial church.

The dangerous dark blood of the undead, after purification rituals, was all poured into the deep lake behind the church.

It seemed a method found in ancient texts: to suppress the darkness in the blood with deep water.

However, over the years, the blood in the deep lake accumulated more and more.

Eventually, Archbishop MacDonald discovered [Human Sediment] in the waters.

It was said that in front of [Human Sediment], no matter how profound something was, it would be eclipsed.

Too deep, too dark.

Back then, MacDonald even triumphantly claimed: The Abyss of the World lies here!

So within the church that once imprisoned Elderidge and buried the ashes of his combustion, the profound power and knowledge were once again evoked.

The profound was not just a power; it naturally came with knowledge and faith.

This power pursued people’s minds, wishing to infuse it with knowledge and faith.

Thus, even the most resolute clergy became followers of Elderidge.

”Snap!”

Leonard’s crescent curved sword, with its crescent-like inner curve, hooked around the neck of a red-eyed warrior, and then ruthlessly pulled.

This Goddess Knight, while enduring discomfort in his mind and heart, cleansed a profound infection.

”No hesitation!”

He shouted loudly to those around him.

”Anyone with issues should be dealt with immediately!”

Just because of Elderidge’s words, warriors who hadn’t suffered any casualties yet, along with those Leonard took down, were internally executed, reducing their numbers by three!

And the bad news didn’t stop there.

”Puff!”

”Ah!!!”

A scream arose from the area near the wall of the terrace.

Lann and Leonard turned their heads simultaneously.

They saw a warrior who had, driven by fear, inadvertently backed up against the wall during the struggle, suddenly attacked by a small figure descending from above, wielding a weapon akin to a small scythe.

Leaping from a height, using not quite enough strength paired with the momentum of the fall, the blow cleaved open the thin armor at the neck, spraying blood!

It was a slave from the Profound Church, thin and diminutive, their figure resembling imps of the Magic Middle Ages.

Only half the height of a person, with frail limbs, yet their belly showed an unhealthy, swollen bulge. They wore a pointed hood with just two eye holes cut out.

Lann wasn’t even sure if these slaves were human, as in past encounters, they had never uttered any meaningful words.

Only endless chittering and wailing.

And now, regardless of whether they were human, they had clearly all become followers of the profound.

With a swoosh, Lann finally witnessed Leonard’s crescent curved sword’s true usage today.

The sword, along with Leonard’s power, was imbued with a layer of blue-green glow, and with a flick of the blade, this glow became a tangible flying blade.

The blue-green flying blade cut a visible path through the air, severing the neck of the slave.

Neat and clean, the frail neck was sliced in two.

More small slaves crawled over the wall, but the now wary knights became difficult targets.

A knight with spines all over raised his shield.

A slave lunging from above was impaled upon his spiked shield.

Like a burst blood bag, it hung from the spiky shield, trickling blood down.

Fireballs from the priest group at a distance, and the giant closing in nearby, Elderidge awaited only the path to open before surging forth.

Meanwhile, on the walls, the agile climbers, the slaves, each held a ruthless small weapon, ready to bathe in blood.

The situation turned dire, as this team assembled by Klimte, had a warrior ratio of less than a quarter.

Yet the situation continued to deteriorate.
