748: Chapter 161: Oath 748: Chapter 161: Oath Echo—— “I swear!” “I volunteer to become a people’s police officer.” “I promise to be loyal to my country, loyal to the people, loyal to the law; obey orders, follow commands; strictly observe discipline, maintain secrecy; enforce the law impartially, be honest and clean; perform my duties diligently, fear no sacrifice; serve the people wholeheartedly.” “I am willing to devote myself to the noble cause of public security, and strive hard to fulfill my pledge!” … …

After a long while, Wang Yuechuan withdrew his gaze from the window and then focused his eyes again on the man who claimed to be Eighteen.

Eighteen calmly said, “Looks like you have the answer, right?”

Wang Yuechuan said, “I believe that regardless of the task, even one that requires life sacrifice, it must be voluntary.

I don’t care about the content of the task, but before this, I am a sworn policeman.

I also believe that my country will not harm innocent people for a task.”

Eighteen suddenly revealed a wicked smile, raising an eyebrow, “So, your answer is refusing?”

Wang Yuechuan just glanced indifferently at the man, walked silently towards the door of the room.

He finally organized and would try his utmost to accomplish any challenging task assigned by the organization.

But he is not merely a machine that only knows how to complete tasks. “My existence is confidential, no leaks are allowed.” Eighteen turned around, looking at Wang Yuechuan’s departing back: “You know walking away like this means what, don’t you?”

Wang Yuechuan didn’t stop, sneered coldly: “Of course it means I won’t have to work with a lunatic, that’s all.”

Just as he finished speaking, Wang Yuechuan suddenly felt as if he were in a mortal situation—he had practiced The Book of the Dead for a short time, but the perception was increasingly intense…

Eighteen suddenly made his move.

Wang Yuechuan swiftly dodged, while behind him, Eighteen kicked fiercely with a sweeping leg, even making a sound through the air.

Just from this, Wang Yuechuan could determine that Eighteen was an extremely skillful fighter.

Wang Yuechuan dared not be careless, retreated directly, observing Eighteen’s actions again.

He wasn’t overly afraid, partly due to his confidence in his combat skills, and partly because he possessed the mysterious power of The Book of the Dead, which he could rely on.

However, he was unwilling to expose the power of The Book of the Dead unless absolutely necessary. “The person who recommended you said you are the elite of elites, but I think not necessarily.” Eighteen scoffed, “Only so-so.”

Wang Yuechuan snorted coldly, his body tensed, like a leopard exploding suddenly, launching a hook punch directly towards Eighteen’s chest—in the troop he served, he was never afraid to spar anyone in the ring.

However, Eighteen’s strength was far beyond Wang Yuechuan’s imagination.

He thought this would make Eighteen retreat or not react in time, yet he didn’t expect that this nearly full-force hook punch was easily caught by Eighteen.

Eighteen’s palm completely enveloped Wang Yuechuan’s fist, his body didn’t even move back, standing firm and steady.

Wang Yuechuan felt the strength coming from Eighteen’s grasp on his fist, feeling horrified!

His fist was now feeling excruciating pain, as if being crushed by a hydraulic machine.

In just an instant, this pain made Wang Yuechuan break out in a cold sweat, his lips slightly pale.

Wang Yuechuan took a deep breath, twisted his arm to break free, then followed by a spin of his body, using the momentum to fiercely elbow towards Eighteen’s face!

Eighteen calmly retreated half a step, meanwhile reached out, pressed on Wang Yuechuan’s waist with a slight force, Wang Yuechuan’s elbow had not yet struck when his body was pushed out, flying backward and landing on the ground.

Wang Yuechuan crawled up from the ground somewhat embarrassingly, his gaze firmly locking onto every part of Eighteen’s body.

He knew he had probably encountered the most terrifying opponent since his debut…

With such skill, using a number as his name, regarding Eighteen’s identity, Wang Yuechuan was increasingly sensing its mystery. “You can’t beat me.” Eighteen calmly smiled, “So you won’t leave this room.”

Eighteen leisurely tidied his slightly disheveled sleeve due to his large movement, looked at Wang Yuechuan and said: “Honestly, I quite liked your previous answer.

But, not meeting the requirements is not meeting the requirements.”

Wang Yuechuan saw in Eighteen’s eyes a cold element… a murderous intent.

He had caught many murderers before, seen the killing intent on these guys—those who wanted to kill, their eyes never lied… “Whether or not I can walk out, you only know by trying.” Wang Yuechuan exhaled, simultaneously narrowing his eyes.

His gaze was like a small vortex, Eighteen at this moment was in the center of this vortex, his gaze suddenly slowed… a moment’s lapse!

Just in this momentary lapse, a tremendous force violently struck Eighteen’s abdomen.

He seemed incredulous that such a change would happen—at this point, Wang Yuechuan didn’t stop after landing a heavy punch on Eighteen’s abdomen, his whole body bounced up, bending his arm, elbow chopping directly towards Eighteen’s neck!

Yet at this moment, Eighteen blocked with a raised hand at the last moment.

This collision gathered nearly all of Wang Yuechuan’s strength, although Eighteen blocked, he still stumbled backward four or five steps before steadying his body.

Wang Yuechuan didn’t dare pursue… in that instant just now, he had already used the ability of The Book of the Dead, causing Eighteen to momentarily lapse, yet didn’t expect his will to be so strong, cleared completely just in a moment’s lapse.

What a terrifying guy! “Quite a good guy, surprised me indeed.” Eighteen slowly exhaled.

Wang Yuechuan sneered: “Oh?

You’re saying you’re seriously starting now?”

Eighteen shook his head, simultaneously waving his hand under Wang Yuechuan’s puzzled gaze, sat back: “Why should I fight with you?

I don’t want to be caught off guard by your special ability again.

Next time, I might not have such good luck to wake up timely.” “Really?

What special ability?” Wang Yuechuan said calmly: “I’ve always been quite strong since I was young.”

Eighteen uncorked the wine bottle, began pouring wine, “This world is vast, some people hold abilities unknown to ordinary people, it’s no absolute secret.

Well, I’m not interested in digging into your secret, come over and have a glass of wine, let’s talk about what to do next.” “What do you mean?” Wang Yuechuan frowned, puzzled—he felt since he entered this room, he had completely fallen into a web spun by Eighteen.

Eighteen seemed like a giant spider hidden in the dark, while he had become the insect crashing into the web. “What do you mean?” Eighteen raised his glass, toasted remotely towards Wang Yuechuan: “Of course, you passed.” “Your previous question…” Wang Yuechuan did not lower his guard.

Eighteen smiled gently: “If I told you, being unwavering in thinking you can kill that traffic cop downstairs, not only you would lose this task qualification, but I would also have you pack up and go home directly, would you believe?

We don’t need those who disregard everything to complete tasks, killing machines.

Wang Yuechuan, you’re good, interesting!”

Was it really all just a test?

Eighteen glanced at Wang Yuechuan, suddenly said: “I know you must have many questions in your heart, even feel uncomfortable about what happened between us before, but…”

Eighteen abruptly stood up, raising his arm in salute, his body straight as a rod, Wang Yuechuan couldn’t see any trace of peace on Eighteen’s face at this moment, only seriousness, and a kind of iron-blooded feeling that shocked Wang Yuechuan. “National Bureau of Special Operations, Ninth Bureau, Leader of the Third Action Group, Liu Zhigang, Code Name 18!”

After 18 finished saying this, Wang Yuechuan felt a sense of solemnity.

At this moment, 18 took out a small ID book from his clothes to prove his identity.

Wang Yuechuan reached out to accept it, opened it, and glanced inside… seals, signatures, various proofs.

For someone who has been handling cases for many years, he naturally had the ability to distinguish genuine from fake documents.

After closing the document, Wang Yuechuan took a deep breath, handed the document back to 18 with both hands, and then took a step back, stomping forcefully on the ground, letting out a metallic sound; his posture was equally upright as he saluted, “Subordinate of the Provincial Public Security Department…

Wang Yuechuan, reporting to Officer Liu!” 18 said seriously at this moment, “I have obtained permission from your superiors, and now there is a special mission entrusted to you.

Do you wish to accept it?”

Wang Yuechuan’s hands were tightly pressed against his sides, his gaze level, “I am willing to follow the organization’s arrangement!” 18 said, “Very well!

Now, pick up that fruit knife on the table.”

Wang Yuechuan took a step forward, picked up the fruit knife, and stepped back to his original position, his movements precise. “Use this knife to injure the traffic police downstairs.”

Wang Yuechuan hesitated, but only frowned—he did not act impulsively.

Because this time, 18’s request was to injure the person, not to kill them.

Only hearing 18 say slowly at this time, “We need you to become a fugitive, then escape…

Afterwards, I need you to join a special organization.” “Special organization?” “An international mercenary group.” 18 pulled out a USB drive from his clothes, “This is information about this mercenary group.

Destroy it immediately after viewing.” “Understood!” Wang Yuechuan took a deep breath.

At this moment, regarding the questions 18 had previously asked him, Wang Yuechuan felt a sudden clarity…

Indeed, this operation was to have him play the role of an undercover agent.

Just… why was he, someone from the Provincial Public Security Department, being tasked with this mission, and not the elites from 18’s institution… “I know there are many doubts in your mind.” 18 said slowly at this moment, “However, due to certain reasons, I cannot tell you the truth for now.

But rest assured, as you said, the state will not abandon anyone who remains loyal to it.

There are reasons why we need to use you, and I hope you can understand.” “Understood!” 18 continued, “From now on, all your duties will be stripped away.

During the mission, you will receive no support.

You will only have contact with me!

I’ll give you a day to explain things to your family, but you must not divulge any details of our conversation tonight, or you’ll be charged with treason!” “Reporting to the officer, it’s unnecessary!” Wang Yuechuan said calmly. 18 nodded, then took out a black phone, “Keep this phone, from now on, we’ll use it to communicate.”

Wang Yuechuan nodded solemnly, took the phone directly, and suddenly asked, “Officer, if I injure the traffic police downstairs, what will happen to him?” 18 said calmly, “You need not worry about this; I will naturally arrange it.

I trust you can distinguish where to strike to wound without killing.” “Officer, is this a method to make me a fugitive?” Wang Yuechuan suddenly asked. “Yes, the most direct method.” 18 nodded, “Of course, we could fabricate many reasons.

But what reason is simpler and more straightforward than attacking the police?

We can’t target ordinary civilians, and as for the comrade downstairs, we’ll compensate him afterwards, you can rest assured.” “If that’s the case, officer, I think it’s unnecessary to injure him.” Wang Yuechuan said slowly, “In fact, before coming to see you, I was already a fugitive murderer.” 18 was taken aback, looking Wang Yuechuan up and down, but he did not ask for reasons, only nodding, “A murderer?

Very well…

You’re the first murderer daring to come meet me!” 18 shook his head, patting Wang Yuechuan’s shoulder, “The wine in this mansion is not bad, don’t waste it.

Rest here for a while as a last relaxation before your mission.

Ahead of you, are days as perilous as facing flood and savage beasts.” 18 left, Wang Yuechuan watched him leave calmly.

He sat in this room, which had been booked in advance.

The facilities here were quite complete, and there was a computer next to him, seemingly prepared for him to view the information on the USB drive.

Wang Yuechuan didn’t check the USB drive immediately but took out his phone and dialed a number.

His superior, the leader he trusted, who also instructed him to come to Lanling Mansion… his familiar voice, the one who adopted him from the orphanage and raised him… his father. “Did you see him?”

Wang Yuechuan nodded, “I saw him… he gave me a mission.” “Hmm, you don’t need to tell me what the mission is.

It involves matters of that organization, requiring absolute confidentiality.” “I understand.” Wang Yuechuan continued to nod.

He made this call partly to confirm 18’s identity once more—now listening to his father’s tone, there was no doubt, and it was also a farewell.

There was a brief silence on the other end of the line, finally a voice came, “Yuechuan… be careful in everything.”

Wang Yuechuan’s heart warmed, and he softly said, “You say I’m like a monkey, with a long life, don’t worry.

However, this year I might not be able to come back for the New Year… you also take care of your body.

By the way, tonight is Christmas Eve, not really our holiday, but it fits the occasion.

Dad…

Merry Christmas.” “Merry Christmas.” … … “Merry Christmas…”

After saying this, 18 revealed a slightly devilish smile and then turned off the phone.

Right now, he was standing on the rooftop of a building far away from Lanling Mansion. “Eh, you’re here?”

At this moment, suddenly a cheerful voice emerged behind 18.

He turned around and saw a young man with a scarf wrapped around his neck, carrying a bag…

Da Zhe.

Da Zhe blinked, curiously floated over, looking him up and down, “I say, Number 18, why are you dressed like this?

How did you turn into a man?

Oh!

I got it, found a new master, didn’t you?

Number 18, want me to act alongside you?” 18 turned around, his body gradually changing as he moved, when facing Da Zhe, he had already become a figure in a black robe, concealing his entire form in shadow.

Da Zhe felt a bit uneasy, feeling that the previous look of Xiao Lu was much more pleasing to the eye.
