742: Chapter 155: Never Came Back to His Senses 742: Chapter 155: Never Came Back to His Senses Good people don’t live long, yet evil lasts for a thousand years.

Inuyasha was obviously categorized by Zhuifeng as the evil kind, because Inuyasha had a tough life.

That feathered arrow almost hit his heart.

Or rather, if it deviated a bit more, it could have directly pierced through.

Even so, Inuyasha suffered a serious injury.

The spiritual power of the young shrine maiden at Zaodao Shrine rampaged wildly within Inuyasha’s body, leaving him extremely weak—at this moment, Inuyasha was not much stronger than an ordinary adult, falling into the range where samurais could easily take him down.

This proud and arrogant demi-demon teenager had no choice but to bow to reality, forced to hide in a nearby cave to recover from his injuries.

During the recovery period, the only thing he could do was bicker occasionally with the illegal intruder in his body.

Zhuifeng thought Inuyasha was quite dishonest—he always found various ways to avoid talking about the young shrine maiden at the shrine.

But Zhuifeng knew that Inuyasha cared more about the young shrine maiden than anyone else.

What a disingenuous guy—but as Zhuifeng pondered this, he suddenly realized that he might not be in a position to lecture Inuyasha.

Not long ago, he himself was just a disingenuous guy. “Zhuifeng, you were the one who agreed with me back then, as long as I could kill a hundred huge powerful monsters and find a hundred books for her, you would promise to make me stronger… was it out of sympathy for my background?”

In the damp cave, Inuyasha started talking to himself—at least it seemed like he was talking to himself. “Sympathy for you?” Zhuifeng thought for a while, contemplating Inuyasha’s background—in Yan Wuyue World, whether among monsters or humans, the existence of a demi-demon was regarded unfavorably.

Inuyasha’s mother was kidnapped by monsters, and after being toyed with, was directly abandoned.

As for Inuyasha, a demi-demon, to monsters, he was like a freak, not acknowledged.

The mother was treated as a tool as well, ignored after giving birth, wandering the world like a monster…

Speaking of which, Inuyasha’s background seems to have many similarities with Nagato Tsuruko. “Why ask such a question?” Zhuifeng, recalling his own time as an orphan wandering from place to place, seemed to have a trace of melancholy in his voice. “Just asking.” Inuyasha shook his head and then closed his eyes.

He reached out to the spiritual power rampaging inside his body, enduring intense pain constantly—that damned woman actually attacked so viciously, it seemed she really wanted to take his life.

Even though she didn’t really take anything away, in the end, she returned it… yet she still wouldn’t let him go?

When Inuyasha thought of this, he couldn’t help but grit his teeth again.

But when he thought about what that damned woman had been through, Inuyasha fell silent again. “Zhuifeng, are you still there?” “Don’t bother me, I’m trying to comprehend something, see if there’s a way to solve the current situation.

Go wherever you feel cool!” “This cave is pretty cool?” “You can just die!

Dumb dog!” “You stupid wolf!”

The Greedy Wolf Star’s inheritance held a vast and complex amount of knowledge, sealed within Zhuifeng’s consciousness.

When he unlocked these inherited memories, it was like diving into an endless ocean—completely unable to understand what was inside!

As a monster, wandering everywhere, never having received any formal education.

In fact, before encountering Zi Xing, even condensing demonic power, absorbing vitality, were instinctual actions for Zhuifeng.

Even with the massive knowledge inherited from the Greedy Wolf Star, he couldn’t digest it well, let alone attempt to find a targeted solution to the current problem from this knowledge.

Learning in the World of Will seemed to be a long process.

The more he focused on immersing himself in the inherited memories of the Greedy Wolf Star, Zhuifeng only occasionally woke up, observing what Inuyasha was doing.

But suddenly waking up once, Zhuifeng discovered that Inuyasha was no longer in the healing cave.

Taking a look at this guy’s body, it turned out Inuyasha had just regained the ability to move.

This guy really likes courting death, huh?

In such a weakened state, he dared to run around outside.

Not to mention encountering onmyoji or clergy, even meeting a somewhat capable samurai, he probably couldn’t even block a basic attack!

Huh, this is…

Just as Zhuifeng was planning to mock Inuyasha properly, he suddenly found that this guy was now hiding among the branches of a large tree, and ahead was none other than Zaodao Shrine.

The young shrine maiden had just lifted a wooden bucket and walked into the path behind the shrine. “Actually, if you explain it, I think she might forgive you.” Zhuifeng sighed, “Why not tell her that you’re so eager to gain power, even at the cost of breaking your pact, because…” “Breaking it means breaking it, there’s no because or not because.” The demi-demon teen shook his head, only jumping down from the tree after the light silhouette disappeared completely. “Boring pride.”

Actually, this kind of topic had been discussed more than once.

As for Zhuifeng’s mockery of Inuyasha, it wasn’t the first time either—it’s just that every time, he could think of himself: his former self. …

Every day since then, Zhuifeng would take time to observe Inuyasha’s actions.

He found that Inuyasha’s wounds were recovering very slowly, but he was quite diligent in going to Zaodao Shrine—only each time he always hid, like a voyeur. “Idiot!

If you don’t speak what’s in your heart, how do you know she hasn’t forgiven you!” “Stupid wolf, thinking that speaking will make the other person understand, don’t you think you’re being incredibly arrogant?”

It’s already unknown how many days have passed, Inuyasha’s injuries have healed amid such careless self-recovery.

Yet Zhuifeng became increasingly anxious, still unable to find a way to leave through the Greedy Wolf Star’s inheritance, only vaguely feeling the presence of the stars, but unable to guide him. …

Inuyasha went down the mountain, once passing through an abandoned area—if Zhuifeng wasn’t mistaken, this should be the ruins of Zaodao Village—the village destroyed by the runaway Nagato Tsuruko back then.

Inuyasha had moved out of that cave, now residing in the former Nagato House’s old residence.

Its walls were dilapidated, rooms collapsed.

To call it a residence was just beams collapsed and propped, with some tiles and bricks on top—makeshift shelter.

It rained this day, water gathering and dripping after funneling through the cracks above, amidst the earth’s grayness, Inuyasha suddenly curled up, seemingly feeling a bit of chill. “Stupid wolf…

Do you think, if I just stayed here, that damned woman wouldn’t have to face that kind of pain?”

There are no Miki, no convergence of the Three Nobles, no outsiders, just him, just her sweeping fallen leaves in front of the door every day, going to the mountain pool to wash herself day after day.

Without everything that came after, she could have remained in this peace.

Inuyasha knew that damned woman’s character too well, she could really stay like this forever.

She’d sweep the courtyard each day, do homework, read, watch the sunset and seasons change… never get bored. “Perhaps.” Zhuifeng replied wearily.

He wasn’t sure if it was the weather, but he felt even he was becoming lazy. “Are we never getting out of here?”

Has it become ‘we’ now?

Zhuifeng was taken aback, unable to give Inuyasha an answer for a long time.

For age, he might be even younger than Inuyasha, how could he provide Inuyasha with more answers? “I don’t know, but obviously, I don’t wish to stay in this damned place forever.” Zhuifeng voiced his thoughts. “But outside, she’s no longer there… died at the hands of another self.”

This was the weakest voice of Inuyasha Zhuifeng had ever heard, perhaps masked by the rain’s roar, perhaps the whistling wind.

They concealed and eased the blow, the demi-demon suddenly buried his head deeply between his knees.

He knew, had always known, the young shrine maiden had died at Miki’s hands. “Actually, do you not want to leave here?” Zhuifeng hesitantly questioned.

This time, it was him who received no answer from Inuyasha.

The rain didn’t seem to stop anytime soon, the dumb dog and stupid wolf stopped arguing, and the surroundings were so quiet it made one want to doze off. …

For several days after the rain stopped that day, it never cleared up; the continuously overcast sky resembled the old attic of an old lady at the peak of silence.

Zhuifeng once again awoke from the sea of inherited memories of the Greedy Wolf Star, and to his surprise, Inuyasha was not at Zaodao Shrine this time, and even left the ruins of Zaodao Village, reaching a place that could be considered a relatively large town.

He rummaged through the belongings of a wealthy household in the town. “What are you doing?” Zhuifeng curiously asked. “Looking for books.” Inuyasha had turned the study into chaos, eventually finding quite a few.

He glanced around and, unsure if these books were the same, simply packed everything up in a haphazard manner.

The places Inuyasha ransacked were not limited to just this household; he targeted various families throughout the town, even the landlord’s family was not spared.

By the time he left this town, this guy already had a large bundle strapped to his back, seemingly satisfied.

Zhuifeng didn’t ask why he robbed so many ancient books.

However, he did understand why Inuyasha was chased by the Samurai and clergy combination as soon as he arrived in the Yan Wuyue World…

Could it be that this guy had robbed many mortal families before, incurring widespread anger?

Otherwise, humans wouldn’t naturally provoke the internal conflicts between monsters.

When Inuyasha returned to the ruins of the Nagato House in Zaodao Village, Zhuifeng realized that in the days he was comprehending inherited memories, this guy had actually looted quite a lot of stuff back. “Here, it’s already over a hundred books, isn’t it?”

Collecting a hundred monsters, gathering a hundred books… it’s evident that the difficulty of a hundred monsters is far greater by countless times. “Hmm, since I broke the agreement, I’ll repay tenfold!

I’ll find a thousand books!” The half-demon boy suddenly declared heroically.

Zhuifeng maliciously chuckled and responded, “Then do you also want to kill a thousand monsters?” “Hmm.”

The foolish dog didn’t retort against the stupid wolf this time and nodded very affirmatively, so the stupid wolf internally sighed: This foolish dog… truly silly. …

Ever since that day, Zhuifeng lived in constant danger.

Is this foolish dog really planning to kill a thousand huge powerful monsters?

Doesn’t he measure his own weight a bit?

If it weren’t for the fact that we share the same body, I, Lord Zhuifeng, wouldn’t care about survival, would I?

Power of the Stars!

Swift, swift!

Hmph!

I’ll simply use your body to practice some abilities from the Greedy Wolf Inheritance then—Zhuifeng felt that doing this wouldn’t put him at a loss! “How many is this?” “Nine hundred ninety-eight.” Inuyasha frowned, looking back to see that quite a few corpses were lying in the camp before them, with only one huge powerful monster among them, the rest were subordinates.

Where in this world are there so many huge powerful monsters?

Later on, Inuyasha could only make up the numbers with other monsters… and this later was already three years afterward.

Which means, Zhuifeng had already spent three years with Inuyasha in this dream. “Only two are left.” Zhuifeng pondered for a moment, suddenly saying, “I recently heard of a strong Toad Demon called the Red-Robed Sorcerer appearing in the south.

But if you kill it, it’s nine hundred ninety-nine, just missing one, and conveniently it’s in the direction of returning to Zaodao Village.” “Almost a thousand…” the foolish dog demon murmured to himself.

After three years of bloody battles, the half-demon boy’s body had not grown much.

But a scar had appeared on his face, and he had… grown much quieter.

In fact, in the latter part of the journey, verbal skirmishes between the foolish dog demon and stupid wolf became rare. “Why, do you have other plans?” “Let it be like this.” Inuyasha shook his head and directly walked south. …

Ah—!

A scream erupted, the heavily injured Red-Robed Sorcerer fell to the ground, revealing its true form, “Ah…

I really hate you!

Originally I could have lived eternally!

It’s because of you guys, I can’t complete the ultimate magic of the Toad clan…

I will never forgive you…

Not even in death will I!” “So much nonsense.”

Inuyasha’s Iron Sword swept across the Red-Robed Sorcerer’s neck, successfully decapitating it.

Afterwards, Inuyasha returned to the ruins of Zaodao Village, and after silently staying for a day, he unearthed all the books stored there, carrying them on his back, and walked up the steps of Zaodao Shrine. “Huh, didn’t you still need one more?” Zhuifeng looked at Inuyasha in surprise—could it be he counted wrong? “Stupid wolf, thank you.”

Step by step, the mountainous road became less and less. “Thank me for what?” This was the first time Zhuifeng heard grateful words from this ungrateful dog demon, truly incredible. “If it weren’t for you, I couldn’t have dealt with so many monsters stronger than me…

One thousand monsters, not to mention three years, even thirty years might not suffice.” “Hmph, it’s just because I also use you as a vessel now, if you suddenly die, I’ll be in trouble too.

Otherwise, who could be bothered with your suicidal behavior?” “You have it too, don’t you?” The foolish dog demon chuckled, “Boring pride.” “Tch!”

The last step of the stairs was far behind now, in front of the shrine, the young Early Rice Shrine Maiden was cleaning the courtyard.

She clearly saw Inuyasha, who was making no effort to conceal himself, appear here, and frowned. “Inuyasha, so you’re not dead.” The young shrine maiden remarked coldly, “Are you still unwilling to give up on what the shrine enshrines?”

Inuyasha released the bundle from his back, a large number of ancient books scattered on the ground, “Here’s a thousand books, count them yourself?

The original agreement was a hundred, I broke it, so I returned tenfold.” “You…” the young shrine maiden opened her lips in astonishment.

At this moment, Inuyasha approached her, calmly saying, “In these three years, I have killed nine hundred ninety-nine monsters, even including the Dog General who abandoned my mother.

Also, there was that Toad Demon?

It’s because of it that we met initially; I didn’t expect it to change its name to Red-Robed Sorcerer in recent years and become quite powerful.

Nevertheless, I ended up killing it.

Counting it, it’s nine hundred ninety-nine monsters in total.” “Inuyasha…” the young shrine maiden seemed to realize what the half-demon intended next, and suddenly became flustered, “What are you planning to do!” “Please let me stay by your side, never leaving you…”

The half-demon tightly embraced the young shrine maiden, “And so…

I become the thousandth.”

Atop Zaodao Shrine, a new stone statue suddenly appeared, that was the Dog God, once a half-demon boy guarding Zaodao Shrine…

Until Inuyasha gradually transformed into the Dog God stone statue in front of the shrine under the gentle gaze of the shrine maiden, Zhuifeng suddenly understood: This dream was not about Nagato Tsuruko, or Miki, or the shrine maiden… this was actually Inuyasha’s own dream.

Beyond this dream, to the shrine maiden of Zaodao Shrine, Inuyasha no longer existed.

So he would rather let himself remain forever in this dream, never to awaken. …

Under the Sakura Tree, Miki gently closed the book in her hand, expelled all external consciousness, and completely sealed off the Yan Wuyue World.

She nestled next to Arex, who was healing and had fallen asleep, and drifted to sleep herself.
