746: Chapter 159: Deeply Etched in Heart, Never Forget 746: Chapter 159: Deeply Etched in Heart, Never Forget Old Ma and Old Liu were in the office, smoking one cigarette after another—so much so that even with the exhaust fan on, the smoke couldn’t be cleared.

At this moment, Old Liu fiercely jabbed the half-smoked Black Lark into the ashtray stuffed with cigarette butts, staring at Officer Ma and asked, “Did he really say that?”

Officer Ma nodded and said, “That kid has a tough mouth.

He only said that he had a task to complete, and that it was out of necessity to deal with that foreign old man in that situation.”

“A task to complete, out of necessity…” Old Liu frowned, “That foreign old man, might not be a foreign spy, right?

What task is Wang Yuechuan carrying?”

“Do I know why I came to find you?” Officer Ma rolled his eyes, “I think this kid isn’t willing to disclose anything, his mouth is tightly shut, and he doesn’t seem scared, almost as if he’s confident… not sure if he really has some special task.”

“Wang Yuechuan is from the province, though we can’t manage him, he committed murder on our turf…” Old Liu shook his head and suddenly asked, “Does this kid have any other requests?

Like making a phone call or something?”

“Not at all.” Officer Ma shook his head and said, “As soon as he walked out, I locked him up promptly, searched all the things on him, and then detained him.”

“What did he have?” Old Liu asked curiously, “Also, have we found out the identity of that foreign old man?”

“We found the old man’s ID, and I’ve asked Lin Feng to look into it, should have news soon.” Officer Ma quickly replied, “As for what the kid had on him, we didn’t find much.

Just a wallet, keys, phone, and a strange book.

Besides these, there was a pile of stones, which Lin Feng said were crystals.”

“A pile of crystals?

A book?

What kind of book?”

“I don’t know, it should be in some foreign language, right?” Officer Ma shrugged—given his education, the only foreign letters he recognized were the twenty-six alphabets.

Although, Officer Ma suddenly added, “Oh, I’ve seen the recording too; the kid and the foreign old man were in the mortuary, seemed like they were messing with something, drawing symbols on the floor for who knows what, then sat there for a while… like some kind of ritual.”

“Ritual?” Old Liu’s mouth dropped open.

“Kind of strange, like a cult?”

“Could that foreign old man be a terrorist?” Old Liu’s fingers trembled—not that he hadn’t thought this way, since not long ago, right before Golden Week, there was an extremely brutal serial murder case in the city’s sports arena, and the captured murderer escaped halfway, officially labeled as a terrorist attack.

Who knows if these two incidents are related…”

“I can’t say, the intel we’ve gathered is too sparse, practically useless.

Old Liu, do you think you could give the provincial people a call and ask?” Officer Ma earnestly inquired.

Feeling somewhat troubled, Old Liu looked at Officer Ma—he was the type looking to retire soon, believing in governing by doing nothing, only wishing for a safe landing without encountering any major issues, but this situation…

“Alright, you step out for a bit, I’ll make a call to report and see…” Old Liu sighed, knowing with Officer Ma’s personality, there was no way out for him.

Just as Officer Ma left Old Liu’s office, Lin Feng hurriedly ran over, panic-stricken, exclaiming, “Bad news, Officer Ma!

Wang Yuechuan has escaped!”

“What!!?” Officer Ma’s eyes widened, “Did you let him go?”

“Damn!

Officer Ma, don’t wrongfully accuse people!”

“Then tell me, how did he escape the detention center?

Labour, I watched him be locked up with my own eyes!” Officer Ma demanded furiously!

Lin Feng shrugged helplessly, “I don’t know, just that the guarding officers fainted outside the cabin door.

When I went to the monitoring room, the people inside were knocked out too, and the surveillance records were destroyed.”

“What about the segment on the murder?” Officer Ma asked urgently.

“That part was erased too.” Lin Feng seemed rather helpless, seeing Officer Ma about to explode, quickly added, “Though beforehand, fearing something might happen, I secretly backed up a copy.”

Officer Ma forcefully gripped his head, “He couldn’t have done all this by himself… Does he have someone helping him?

But it shouldn’t be; wasn’t he alone when he came?”

Saying this, Officer Ma, with a gloomy face, directly pushed open Old Liu’s office door, only to see Old Liu frowning at him, just hanging up the phone, and bluntly said: “The higher-ups said, immediately escort Wang Yuechuan, if he resists on the way, permission granted… to shoot to kill!”

“But he’s escaped!”

…

…

Swiftly glancing behind him, Wang Yuechuan quickly adjusted his walking posture, trying to remain calm, leisurely boarding a taxi, casually giving the driver a location, then closed his eyes, leaned back against the seat, regulating his breath—he practically sprinted out of the police station.

No wonder Cao Yu could easily take things away from the evidence room back then, without discovery until after leaving—that’s the mysterious Magic Power from The Book of the Dead.

Wang Yuechuan’s breathing gradually smoothed, beginning to contemplate everything that had transpired from the mortuary onwards—truthfully, choosing to surrender wasn’t his idea of a good escape plan.

Using Magic Power’s ability, hypnotizing Officer Ma and others present, erasing the correct events, even letting Officer Ma and the others temporarily forget what happened, with his current skills, wasn’t impossible.

Everything happened because… he received a phone call at the time.

Wang Yuechuan couldn’t fathom why the phone rang right at such a coincidence, just that the name displayed made him unwilling to refuse to answer.

“Good day, sir, what’s the matter… I’m currently in a bit of a jam, please be brief if possible.”

Wang Yuechuan knew explaining the matter concerning The Book of the Dead couldn’t be done quickly, right now wasn’t the optimal moment to address this.

“Trouble?

What kind of trouble?

Do you need support from my side?”

“I can handle it.” Wang Yuechuan quickly answered—the plan remained the same, hypnotize, escape, then return to the provincial bureau and report the situation.

“That’s good…” The voice on the other end was somewhat suppressed and urgent, “Wang Yuechuan, listen, after you resolve this trouble, I need you to immediately halt all current work, I have an important task for you to accomplish.”

“What task?” Wang Yuechuan frowned—hitting right at this critical moment?

Yet he had no doubts, only puzzlement—only he and the caller knew this line was their sole secret channel for contact, and the voice was all too familiar.

“Where are you now?

Are you in the city you were last commissioned to?”

“I’m still here.”

“Alright, do visit this place quickly… meet someone, I have arranged this person to wait for you two days.

What you should do next is cooperate unconditionally, your contact password is…”

…

Suddenly opening his eyes, Wang Yuechuan watched the scenes through the window retreating, despite many unresolved thoughts in his mind, he decided to go to the appointed place first, to meet with the contact and decide thereafter.

He rarely heard the chief speak in such an urgent tone…

unless something major had happened.

Wang Yuechuan gently patted the Book of the Dead, which he had retrieved and was now hidden inside his clothes.

This book was of great importance, and if he hadn’t seen the chief in person, he wouldn’t even dare to expose it.

This kind of thing could only be verified by himself in front of that person to explain everything—he also knew that it wasn’t watertight.

That person also had many enemies…

“Master, how much longer to Lanling Mansion?” Wang Yuechuan asked the driver in a low voice.

“That’s hard to say, boss,” the driver replied without turning his head, “Look at this time, it’s rush hour!

Besides, it’s Christmas Eve tonight, lots of people are out having fun!

By the way, boss, where are you headed for fun?”

“I’m a bit tired, just call me when we arrive,” Wang Yuechuan dismissed casually.

…

…

Basically, Luo Qiu didn’t think he would find himself in this situation: like some male protagonist in popular online novels, following behind several women who could be defined as beauties, carrying bags of different sizes—spoils of war from the women.

To be precise, most were the spoils of Subeditor Ren, with a third of them being Lizi’s spoils: snacks.

The considerate maid did not want to add to her master’s burden, so even under the premise that Subeditor Ren was patting her chest to guarantee she would pay if anyone wanted to buy anything, she still chose nothing.

Why did it turn out this way?

Clearly, it was supposed to just be a meal, but why did it turn into shopping at the mall before the meal?

“Don’t blame me!

How could I know that the restaurant would be so crowded, and you have to wait two hours after taking a number!”

As she spoke, Ren Ziling was in a jewelry store, having the sales assistant take out several styles of jewelry and making selections.

Lizi seemed uninterested in these things and was waiting at the door of a nearby milk tea shop for her fruit parfait.

As for the maid, she was casually browsing other jewelry store counters.

“You don’t seem to have a habit of wearing jewelry?” Luo Qiu glanced at the various bags he had placed on the ground.

If he bought more, he wondered if he would have to carry them hung around his neck—a method Boss Luo was very much against, both mentally and physically.

“I don’t!” Ren Ziling pouted, “Who said I’m buying it for myself?

I’m buying it for You Ye!

By the way, does this necklace look good?

Don’t just stare at me like a blockhead, can’t you give me some advice?”

“For her?” Luo Qiu was somewhat surprised.

Ren Ziling rolled her eyes and said angrily, “Such a good future daughter-in-law, why shouldn’t I give her something?

What, do you have a problem with that?

It’s so hard to choose…

none of these seem right.”

How much longer could she accompany her?

Luo Qiu quietly watched Ren Ziling’s troubled expression as she struggled to choose something.

Soon, he would leave this city and be away for a while.

Under the pretense of studying abroad.

Luo Qiu didn’t know what changes the club’s continued existence in this city would bring—but one thing was certain, aside from those ordinary human guests, there would be more and more Non-Human guests in the future.

Too many unbelievable things were happening and happening in the same place.

Perhaps one day it would attract the world’s attention?

Even though for Luo Qiu, these were matters that could be easily suppressed.

However…

Ren Ziling’s Soul was just too beautiful.

Brilliantly colorful…

like a glass-like color…

“Got it!” At this moment, Ren Ziling’s eyes suddenly lit up.

She instantly stood up and pulled You Ye over.

Under the curious eyes of the maid, she picked a silver-white ring from the jewelry box and, with a smile, put it on You Ye’s slender middle finger, “Perfect fit!

This is it!”

You Ye glanced at her master and saw Luo Qiu nodding slightly, so she accepted it—this action, of course, was not hidden from the sharp-eyed Subeditor Ren.

“You!

Are you his girlfriend or his worker?

Even when you take my gift, you still look at this guy’s face?” Ren Ziling huffed, “Let me tell you, this guy is bad, I need to teach him a lesson for you!”

“I will cherish this gift,” the maid said softly, pulling her fingers back and holding them close to her chest.

This made Subeditor Ren’s anger vanish into thin air.

She immediately rolled her eyes but then picked another ring from the jewelry box and directly grabbed Luo Qiu’s hand to put it on.

“Don’t say that this elder is not giving you two a Christmas present!” Ren Ziling said, raising her nose.

Luo Qiu looked at the silver-white ring already placed on his finger, suddenly in a daze.

Ren Ziling then grabbed You Ye’s hand and Luo Qiu’s hand, putting them together softly, saying, “Good things come in pairs, rings in pairs, keep them in your heart, don’t forget.”

On this winter night, the hands holding his and You Ye’s were slightly warm.

“Where did you copy that from?” Boss Luo took a deep breath, breaking the mood mercilessly.

Miss Ren moved her lips, resisting the urge to beat him up, and directly pushed the two out, “Go, go!

See if it’s our turn yet at the restaurant!

I’m settling the bill here!!”

…

“Ms.

Ren is really nice.”

Fingers gently rubbed the ring as the maid walked beside her boss.

Luo Qiu just softly acknowledged and then stopped, turning to You Ye, and said softly, “In a few days, let’s leave.”

You Ye was slightly surprised.

The original plan was to leave after the New Year, after school started in Britain, but now it was much earlier…

yet she didn’t ask why, only nodded gently.
