744: Chapter 157: Loss 744: Chapter 157: Loss “Open the door.”

After thinking for a moment, Wang Yuechuan calmly called out to the morgue doors. “Don’t even think about it!

You-you-you killed someone!

I absolutely won’t open this door!” As soon as the old officer heard Wang Yuechuan speak, he immediately tensed up even more, “If anything happens, I won’t be able to take responsibility!” “Just open the door.

It won’t involve you.” Wang Yuechuan said coolly, “You should know my background.

This time I’m here for a special task… this is part of the task.” “Task?

What task?

Killing people?” The old officer shook his head, “And another thing!

How did you get in there?

I didn’t know anything about it!

Sneaking around…

You’re definitely up to something shady!

This person is a foreigner!” “Open the door!

If you don’t open the door, and something happens, you won’t be able to bear the consequences even more!” Wang Yuechuan barked coldly.

His voice was full of undeniable authority, causing the old officer outside the door to panic, almost moving to shift the chair blocking the door. “I…

I can’t make the call, I’m sorry!” Since the old officer had been stationed in such a low-reward, low-promotion position for so long, he had honed a deep ability for self-preservation, and he wasn’t going to take on this situation himself, “I’ll…

I’ll report it!” “You…!”

Wang Yuechuan gritted his teeth.

Even though he was usually calm, he almost lost his composure.

Faced with such a situation, not even a thousand reasons could explain it — let alone the fact that he couldn’t just tell a regular old morgue guard what had happened.

Even if he tried explaining, they would just think he was crazy! “Ah!

Officer Ma!

What are you doing here!”

Suddenly, Wang Yuechuan heard the old officer outside the door yell with a hint of joy.

Upon hearing this, Wang Yuechuan’s heart sank — if it was the old officer, he could still find a way to maneuver around him.

But if it was Officer Ma, the situation would be different — from the start, there was tension between him and Officer Ma from this precinct, and Officer Ma clearly didn’t like him.

This was not an easy situation where he’d just let him off.

This guy might not be great at other things, but hating evil was genuine, and even Wang Yuechuan couldn’t deny this. “Oh… finishing my shift soon, just dropping by for a look.

What’s going on, why are you all flustered?” Officer Ma’s calm voice rang out; he clearly wasn’t aware of the situation.

Officer Ma truly didn’t know what was happening — heaven’s truth, tonight he had planned to have a nice candlelight dinner with Mrs.

Ma, celebrating the joy of their second child, intending to rekindle some youthful passion.

If it weren’t for Lin Feng seeing Wang Yuechuan sneaking around to the morgue, he wouldn’t have bothered with such a gloomy place.

He wondered if coming to such a place would mess things up, and if it would affect his dinner with his wife… While he was thinking this, the old morgue guard said something that almost made Officer Ma drop his jaw to the floor. “Officer Ma!

Inside, there’s been a murder!!

That Officer Wang from provincial HQ killed someone inside!

Killed a foreigner!” “Oh, you said Old Wang committed a murder…” Officer Ma nodded, “It’s not such a big deal… wait, what did you say!!???”

Seeing Officer Ma’s frightening, glaring face, the old officer urgently said, “Wang Yuechuan committed murder inside the morgue!

I saw it with my own eyes!

There’s video evidence too!” “What the… what’s going on?” Officer Ma muttered, looking incredulously at the morgue door blocked by chairs. “It’s really…” Lin Feng, hearing this, hurried to check the surveillance screen, also turned back in shock, “Officer Ma, look…”

In the surveillance footage, they saw Wang Yuechuan, who was sitting cross-legged on the ground, suddenly stand up, throw something to the ground, and after a few words with the terrified old foreigner, he suddenly murdered him!

Clear and complete, no embellishment, just murder! “Wang Yuechuan, did you really commit murder?” Although the video clearly showed it, Officer Ma instinctively looked towards the door and asked in a low voice.

He really didn’t have a good impression of this guy, but undeniably, in his work, this guy did have praiseworthy aspects.

Instinctively, Officer Ma didn’t believe this guy would commit murder.

Backtracking, this guy had quite an attitude, but he was typically seen as someone having a grand future, a shining example; if he weren’t mentally unbalanced, why would he destroy his future by committing murder?

But faced with Officer Ma’s question, there was no response from inside the morgue.

If the surveillance feed wasn’t still showing Wang Yuechuan’s image and Professor Cui Fo’s body on the ground, Officer Ma might have thought the morgue was already empty. “I confess.”

Just as the tense atmosphere was spreading, unexpectedly, Wang Yuechuan’s voice came slowly, uttering this line.

Did this guy… really commit murder?

Officer Ma and Lin Feng exchanged glances, both seeing the shock and disbelief in each other’s eyes… … …

The coins spun continuously between his hands.

In the back seat of the upper deck of the city’s sightseeing bus, a desolate-looking young man was leaning against the window, watching as billboards swept past.

Because it was Christmas Eve, there were very few people on the sightseeing bus, mostly in pairs here and there.

But this didn’t make the surroundings quiet at all — on the contrary, it was very noisy, with traffic flowing incessantly.

Liu Zixing felt somewhat cold, a slight chill creeping up from his feet, but overall, he wasn’t too uncomfortable.

Actually, living in this era, even beggars or street vagrants rarely felt cold because clothing wasn’t really scarce.

Yet he felt almost naked.

Overall, Liu Zixing didn’t particularly mind Christmas Eve, an external holiday.

After all, years ago, his father had sent him abroad to study, where he spent several Christmas Eves during that time.

Compared to abroad, though the atmosphere in the country wasn’t bad, it was clearly not as good, and was more of a young people’s holiday.

However, this was supposed to be a family holiday.

Suddenly, he flicked the coin spinning between his fingers, tossing it up.

Rising and then falling, the coin landed in his palm, then was covered by his other hand.

Heads or tails?

Liu Zixing didn’t open to check; his expression gradually turned dark and grim.

Suddenly, his hand slowly uncovered it to glance at the orientation of the coin in his palm.

He just glanced, then rested his head against the bus window again, and the coin started spinning between his fingers again.

Thirty-seven times.

Thirty-seven times in a row; even guessing heads each time, he couldn’t get a single proper heads — his luck could hardly be worse.

Up ahead, there was a traffic jam, seemingly due to a collision.

Liu Zixing slowly sighed, only feeling his head somewhat heavy, and the wound in his ear constantly brought a feeling of discomfort, everything felt utterly awful.

Especially after barely escaping danger and feeling almost magically aided yesterday in the gambling hall, his current misfortune felt like a rise and fall.

He began flipping the coin for the thirty-eighth time, silently wishing for heads.

When his palm opened gently, it was tails, always disappointing.

The thirty-ninth time… when the coin was tossed, it hummed, but was immediately drowned out by the car horns all around.

Heads.

Still tails.

Liu Zixing got up expressionlessly, choosing to get off here.

The driver did not stop him.

In fact, several people had already gotten off the bus earlier on the first floor. “Driver, how much longer until we reach South Baiyun Road?” Liu Zixing asked before getting off. “Walking from here?

Not far, about ten minutes,” the driver replied casually.

There’s a somewhat famous tea house on South Baiyun Road, which was Liu Zixing’s destination.

Just as the driver said, it was only about ten minutes away, and Liu Zixing soon stood before the tea house.

It was said to be somewhat famous within the circles of the wealthy.

In reality, it should be quite famous overall.

Despite being very expensive, on a night like this, quite a few young men were still willing to spend lavishly.

Liu Zixing entered, and a waiter approached to ask a question, but he shook his head in refusal and walked directly in a certain direction.

This wasn’t a place with strict rules and pretentious gimmicks; there was no requirement for formal dress.

Liu Zixing walked past tables and finally reached a spot in the corner.

A woman was already sitting there, wearing sunglasses, with a cup of coffee, occasionally checking her phone, seemingly waiting for someone, gradually growing anxious — until Liu Zixing arrived.

The woman clearly saw Liu Zixing approaching from afar, and she hurriedly took off her sunglasses.

Liu Zixing finally stood before her, moving his lips slightly, hesitated for a moment, and then said, “Sorry, there was traffic.” “Sit down first,” the woman hastily, and in a low voice, said.

Once Liu Zixing sat down, she quickly said, “Is there anything?

I don’t have much time.

I lied to Mom that there was something at home to come out this time, I need to hurry back…”

Liu Zixing looked at the woman in front of him, his wife.

He felt a bit bitter.

He hadn’t expected this woman to come out to meet him, but after one phone call, she agreed.

At that moment, he had countless things to say.

But in the end, Liu Zixing could only smile bitterly: “Thank you for coming to see me, I originally thought…”

The woman’s expression was quite complex.

She slightly turned her gaze away, struggling to move out of Liu Zixing’s slightly intense gaze, eventually sighing: “After all, we were once husband and wife.

I don’t want to be too heartless…” “The child…” “Doing well, but recently coughs a bit at night, can’t sleep often, Mom says it’s whooping cough, needs slow care…”

Liu Zixing smiled: “I wasn’t very healthy when I was young either, this child might take after me, but you get used to it once you’ve coughed enough, will get better when grown, needs more exercise.” “Haven’t really seen you exercising?” The woman smiled, a naturally serene smile — but it quickly dimmed.

Liu Zixing clearly felt there was still something between him and his wife.

He suddenly realized that even if he lost the qualification for familial love, his wife, to him, meant more than just family.

Perhaps love remained, it was merely disappointed by his past actions and quietly closed the door, hiding away. “Putting aside the rest, why did you call me to meet today?” “How is mom’s health?” Liu Zixing pondered for a while before he asked. “Okay, but hasn’t had much appetite recently.

Busy with company stuff…” The woman shook her head: “I used to think Mom was just a naive lady, but didn’t expect her to be so strong and assertive after taking back control of the company, it’s like she’s a different person.” “The company, it was originally built by Ma and my father, to what it is now.” Liu Zixing shook his head: “She was a strong woman, just changed a bit after having me.

But, I always disappoint her.”

The woman suddenly looked at Liu Zixing, gritting her teeth: “Zi Xing, your… your ear…”

Liu Zixing pulled his hat down a bit, shaking his head. “Mom is still soft-hearted…” the woman lowered her voice: “Maybe this time she’s really mad at you, so she wants to teach you a lesson, but a mother won’t harm her child, especially not her biological mother.

Maybe, after some time when Mom has calmed down, can I…”

She had never seen Liu Zixing so down and out, unsure if it was an illusion, this man who used to sleep next to her seemed to have aged ten years in just a few days. “Yeah, okay.” Liu Zixing softly nodded.

If it could really be like that, that would be for the best.

Only he knew, it was impossible.

What he sold off back then couldn’t have remained.

He simply sensed the residual affection his wife still had for him, not wanting her to be too disappointed and pained — perhaps, in his wife’s thoughts, there would be a day when he obtained Mrs.

Ma’s forgiveness, reformed himself, returned to the Liu family, and thus lived a happy life.

Such a wish, perhaps every woman has?

On a special night like this, even knowing that such a wish won’t come true, it’s better not to break it, let it gently, gently, accompany into dreams. “Oh, take this, deposit it into the company account.” Liu Zixing slowly pushed a check toward his wife.

The amount on the check moved his wife.

She incredulously stared at her husband, trying with all her might to guess where he possibly obtained such a large sum. “Don’t worry, although it’s not exactly legitimate, it won’t be traced,” Liu Zixing softly said: “The account name, if you just ask, you’ll know, Four Seasons Group, not a small company.

This money, consider it compensation for all I’ve lost over the years.

With this capital, I believe the company will develop better.

I’ll…

I’ll go now.”

Liu Zixing stood and left, his wife’s hand resting on the check, watching his departing figure, wanting several times to call out and urge him to stay.

Until his figure almost disappeared at the tea house door, she suddenly stood up, “Zi Xing!”

Liu Zixing paused, but ultimately pushed the door and left.

He walked out of the tea house, looked up on the street, hearing that winter air should be cleaner, only he couldn’t see many stars, even the Big Dipper was only faintly visible.

He gave a self-mocking smile, pulled out the coin from his pocket, flipped it with his thumb, the spinning coin landed on his arm.

He silently recited: Heads.

Opening his palm to see, it was still tails.

This was already the fifty-third time, and it was still… a loss.
