743: Chapter 156: The Cop Who Kills 743: Chapter 156: The Cop Who Kills Even on Christmas, it’s rare for places in the south to have snow.

Even if it does happen, it’s usually due to sporadic weather changes, perhaps once every ten or twenty years.

The so-called white Christmas is mostly just a figment of imagination.

Besides, Christmas is not a traditional holiday of this Eastern country.

“But that doesn’t stop young men and women from looking forward to Christmas gifts—especially young girls and adorable boys.”

“Adorable boys?”

A puzzled voice suddenly sounded.

The location was the rooftop of a building in the city, and the person asking was extremely fat.

However, his fatness wasn’t the kind that made him look bloated; instead, he seemed large, solid, perhaps a person with considerable strength.

He seemed to be in his twenties, or maybe his thirties.

Let’s define his age tentatively as youth.

He was also extremely gluttonous; even while speaking, he kept eating nonstop.

A family-sized bucket of popcorn was already half eaten.

After asking the question, this young man grabbed another handful of popcorn, stuffing it directly into his mouth, with quite a bit of residue sticking around his lips.

Though curious, the young man didn’t seem to care much about receiving an answer—in fact, the person he asked, who had initially made the similar remark, also had no intention of answering.

The extremely fat youth didn’t seem to care either, mumbling indistinctly, “Arex, if there’s no time, just leave quickly.

After all, this city is the territory of the Godly Land dragon.

If we get targeted by that dragon, even we would find it quite troublesome.

The Godly Land dragon isn’t easily fooled like those old ghosts of the Michael Club.”

The extremely fat youth was addressing Arex, the speaker—a Dream-Eating Tapir, the sole member of its kind living in the flat world, possessing incredible powers.

“I’ve long heard of the Godly Land dragon’s prowess, but unfortunately never had the chance to meet it.

I wonder what the taste of a Godly Land Guardian’s dream would be.” Arex smiled slightly.

Unlike the extremely fat youth, who was focused on eating popcorn, Arex was engrossed in looking at a small gift box in his palm—should he open it or not?

“I’d advise you not to target the Godly Land dragon, especially on this land.

Otherwise, I won’t lend a hand to rescue you,” the extremely fat youth shook his head, “Even if you’ve obtained a fragment of the world and qualified as one of us.

But it’s just completing the test, not formal yet.”

“How stern,” Arex shook his head, “The Fallen…”

“The Fallen?” The extremely fat youth frowned, then said displeasedly, “You are almost one of us, don’t use such biased terms.

We are…Transcendents!”

Arex just smiled, putting away the gift box, and stood up: “Being targeted by the Godly Land dragon is nothing; a bit troublesome but avoidable.

But if we get spotted by the owner of that shop, then it’s not just a simple inconvenience.”

“Club…” The extremely fat youth was merely apprehensive about the Godly Land dragon, but now fell into silence, grabbing handful after handful of popcorn and stuffing them into his mouth.

“Dong Zhuo, your task is just to monitor my test completion,” Arex said calmly, “Now my test is over, let’s leave.

This city is favored by the shop owner, I still suggest being low-key.”

“Hmm…” The extremely fat youth didn’t argue further, nodded, and stood up too.

A swirl of space behind him—this was a passage leading to the dimensional rift, also the place called home by the Transcendents.

They called this place: Mona Sea.

Arex followed Dong Zhuo into the rift, which faded gradually, finally smoothing out after they disappeared.

As they left, the rooftop suddenly brightened like daytime.

It turned out that below was a square, and this building was the square’s hotel.

Tonight was Christmas Eve, there was a grand event at the square, and the lights illuminated were colorful decorations.

…

…

Magic Power, a wonderful type of force that was previously only found in movies or fantasy works—Professor Cui Fo never imagined that he would truly grasp it one day.

In the morgue, where he had inscribed the ritual array recorded in The Book of the Dead, Professor Cui Fo was happily absorbing the spiritual body from fresh corpses, converting them into pure magic power, which brought an indescribable comfort.

As if rejuvenated, spirited, and filled with power—of course, Professor Cui Fo knew it was just an illusion.

Once the absorption of the spiritual body ended, the feeling would vanish, and his body would still be an old body.

Truly envious of a young, vibrant body.

Professor Cui Fo opened his eyes, gazing at Wang Yuechuan, who was sitting cross-legged beside him, absorbing spiritual bodies together.

His old body, far less vigorous compared to young people, naturally absorbed less spiritual body power compared to Wang Yuechuan, who was in the prime of life.

To put it aptly, with each transformation ritual, he could only absorb less than a third, while the rest was entirely given to Wang Yuechuan.

Though Wang Yuechuan didn’t deliberately snatch during the absorption…the converted pure magic power still largely chose the more vigorous and potential-filled body beside him.

A flicker of gloom passed through Professor Cui Fo’s eyes.

He was unwilling, unwilling to have obtained The Book of the Dead, unwilling to have the capability to interpret this great ancient tome, yet ultimately only making a wedding dress for someone else, watching Wang Yuechuan becoming far more powerful step by step.

Fearful that when the day comes when he has no more use, he’d be kicked aside by this guy, right?

However, even if this situation occurs later, Professor Cui Fo has no resentment.

Because in his view, it’s a perfectly normal thing, and if it were him, he might not be able to tolerate it like Wang Yuechuan.

The ancient and powerful force of The Book of the Dead, how could it be easily shared with others?

Even with a wife, children…some secrets cannot be exposed.

The fragile professor’s gaze suddenly shifted to the black crystals used for the ritual—these crystals were bought from a Liu Zixing, and they inherently contained the same kind of special power as The Book of the Dead.

Currently, Cui Fo feels that he’s accumulated enough magic power to activate the special power within these black crystals.

The Soul Chapter in The Book of the Dead never told Wang Yuechuan…

Professor Cui Fo’s eyes flashed with greed…if he could seize that young body, not only restoring youth, gaining decades of life, but more importantly, since Wang Yuechuan was also a magic power possessor, if he could successfully devour his soul too, Professor Cui Fo was sure that his mastery of The Book of the Dead would elevate to another level.

Don’t blame me, dear Wang.

Who let you bring such a gift to me?

Tonight is Christmas Eve, how could I not return you a gift…?

Decisive, just as when he was gathering funds to buy that black crystal from Liu Zixing, regardless of family opposition, selling everything sellable, even breaking the law.

Professor Cui Fo began secretly communicating with the special power within that black crystal.

Wang Yuechuan was still obliviously sitting on the ground, immersed in absorbing spiritual body power.

Professor Cui Fo simultaneously closed his eyes, only feeling his consciousness seemingly detached from his body, viewing everything in the morgue from a strange angle.

His consciousness seemed to transform into a lurking venomous snake.

Venomous snake leaving the hole, surely targeting prey, Wang Yuechuan was his prey.

Dear Wang, be my nourishment; I’ll treat your body well!

Professor Cui Fo’s consciousness suddenly expanded, directly swooping toward Wang Yuechuan’s body!

He even seemed to see the brilliance of that moment of success!

But just as his consciousness was about to enter Wang Yuechuan’s body, Wang Yuechuan, who was sitting cross-legged, abruptly opened his eyes and looked at Cui Fo’s consciousness!

He saw me?

Professor Cui Fo’s consciousness instantly felt a jolt of surprise, not having time to think it through, he saw Wang Yuechuan sneer with disdain!

Wang swiftly extended his arm, snatched up the black crystal on the ground, and smashed it heavily to the floor!

No—!!!

Professor Cui Fo’s consciousness emitted a piercing scream, and as he watched the black crystal shatter under Wang Yuechuan’s blow, he felt a pain akin to being torn apart by horses!

A colossal force pulled his consciousness away!

In just an instant, Professor Cui Fo lost the freedom from the physical constraints and was pulled back into the mire—a broken, decaying body that felt like a dilapidated prison to him!

“No—!!!”

As he opened his eyes, his vision returned to the ordinary sight of a human being!

Professor Cui Fo looked pale, his head throbbing intensely.

He knew it was the backlash from the failed Secret Technique he’d performed!

At this moment, to Wang Yuechuan, he was less menacing than a child armed with a crowbar!

Seeing Wang Yuechuan’s aloof and indifferent gaze, Professor Cui Fo realized he had utterly failed.

But he was reluctant, reluctant to accept how swiftly it all unfolded!

Success was so close!

“Why…why did…you know…” Professor Cui Fo, like a candle flickering in the wind, felt his Life fading, as if diminishing by countless amounts.

Seeing the unwilling look in Professor Cui Fo’s eyes, Wang Yuechuan merely shook his head.

He said nothing, just bent down and reached for the button on Professor Cui Fo’s coat shoulder.

Under Professor Cui Fo’s incredulous gaze, Wang Yuechuan simply plucked off the button on his shoulder and then opened it.

“A listening device…” Professor Cui Fo clearly saw what was inside the button, and his expression eased a bit, though still tinged with bitterness.

This guy had been tracking his movements all along.

“Professor, have you forgotten what my essential work is?” Wang Yuechuan said calmly, “We both possess The Book of the Dead.

Do you really think I would fear that only you can translate it and thus could not restrict your freedom?”

“What exactly do you want?” Professor Cui Fo’s face fell ashen, hoping to negotiate with Wang Yuechuan.

After all, only he could interpret The Book of the Dead, and he was betting Wang Yuechuan wouldn’t dare kill him.

“The Book of the Dead involves too much.

Such Power should not be in the hands of ordinary individuals,” Wang Yuechuan’s gaze turned cold.

“If such extraordinary Power were to be obtained by humans, it would only lead to more crime… just like what happened with Cao Yu.

Professor Cui Fo, I initially had some reservations about you.

I was always waiting, hoping you wouldn’t make a move against me.

But in the end, you couldn’t control your greed.

If a highly cultured professor like you is already like this, let alone those who suffer injustice in society… I cannot allow this Power to leak, endangering this society and nation.

So, I’m sorry…”

“You… you want to kill me!” Professor Cui Fo’s voice sharpened with terror.

Wang Yuechuan said indifferently, “I am merely eliminating unstable factors.”

Cui Fo hastily said, “Only I can interpret The Book of the Dead!

If you kill me, you’ll never know its real secret!”

Wang Yuechuan shook his head, “It doesn’t matter, I have already personally verified the authenticity of The Book of the Dead.

In the future, more talented people will decipher The Book of the Dead… Never underestimate the elites of our nation.

Whatever you can do, we can achieve it too.”

Professor Cui Fo was stunned, then suddenly burst into laughter, “I didn’t expect you to be so loyal to the country… Hahaha!

Fool!

Idiot!

What can the country give you!

You idiot!!”

“It hasn’t given me anything.” Wang Yuechuan grabbed Cui Fo’s head and sharply twisted it, and with a crack, Cui Fo’s neck was broken.

Wang Yuechuan said softly, “But it… raised me, and that is enough.”

After Cui Fo died, his eyes were wide open, filled with immense hatred and reluctance.

Wang Yuechuan shook his head, put down Cui Fo’s body, and then frowned, contemplating how to handle the matter concerning Professor Cui Fo.

However, the old policeman outside the morgue, who was about to retire, had been hypnotized.

It would be fine to leave and destroy the surveillance footage later, ensuring that everything was handled smoothly.

As a forensic expert, handling the aftermath was almost instinctual.

He decided to act quickly, as dragging it out a moment longer could bring unexpected variables.

Wang Yuechuan swiftly tidied up everything, erased the traces of the ritual etched on the floor, and was about to carry Cui Fo’s body out of the morgue.

But as he placed his hand on the morgue door’s handle, he suddenly froze—the door was locked!

How could it be locked?!

Wang Yuechuan instinctively tried to twist the handle harder… very forcefully!

“No…!

Don’t waste your effort… I locked it!

You can’t get out!!”

At the same time, a trembling, terrified voice came through the door to Wang Yuechuan’s ears… It was the voice of the old policeman who was supposed to be hypnotized!!

“Wang… Wang Yuechuan!

I saw you kill him!!

You… you can’t escape!

Turn yourself in!!”

The old policeman, unusually tense, said another sentence!

Wang Yuechuan took a deep, cold breath, feeling a chill throughout his body—partly because the morgue’s temperature was indeed low, but even more because he sensed a looming crisis!

This old policeman… He’d clearly been hypnotized, and the hypnosis shouldn’t have been broken!

How did he wake up?

There was no doubt that if he couldn’t get out, with evidence solid, he would be pinned for murder… and this was Officer Ma’s territory.

Overall, this was the most troublesome situation!

Wang Yuechuan’s mind raced as he quickly sought a solution.

Outside the morgue door, the old policeman was nervously watching the door.

Even though it was locked, he still felt insecure and had brought a table to block the entrance.

Unbelievable… Unbelievable, to catch a murderer right before retirement!

After a mediocre lifetime, would I finally have a shining moment?

The old policeman’s heart was extremely conflicted, unable to determine if it was fear, nervousness, or excitement.

He didn’t notice a shadowy figure observing this scene with interest.

And the eerie, inaudible laughter he heard: kehkeh… kehkehkeh…
