622: Chapter 35: Debt 622: Chapter 35: Debt The sound of stir-frying came from the kitchen.

Da Zhe, who had just replaced the light bulb, walked to the door and said to Sister Lin, “Sister Lin, I’ll tidy up your house while I’m at it.”

“Oh, you just sit and wait for the food.”

“It’s nothing, just a moment of effort…

Hmm, it smells so good.” Da Zhe smiled.

Sister Lin said irritably, “It’s just some eggs, flattering Sister Lin again.”

“Eggs are great, very nutritious.” As Da Zhe spoke, he picked up the broom next to him and began to tidy up the living room area.

“By the way, Gan Jing, what time is it now?”

“Just twelve, not yet one o’clock.” Gan Jing turned and said, “Why?”

Sister Lin replied, “It’s nothing.

The street volunteers are coming to see me at two o’clock, I’m afraid I’ll miss the time.”

Da Zhe paused, stopped what he was doing, and calmly asked, “Street volunteers?”

Sister Lin said while sautéing, “Yes, the street organized a volunteer team saying it’s for visiting elderly people living alone.

It’s recent.

They often come to my place lately, help me do this and that, some pretty good young folks.”

Da Zhe nodded, “That’s quite nice.”

Sister Lin said, “Oh, let me introduce you later!

The volunteers said they’ve never heard of the Red Cross Society, they’re curious about who you are, afraid you might be bad.

But I said, how could you be bad?

Gan Jing?”

“Oh, I’m here.” Da Zhe quickly said, “I was just drinking some water…

Sister Lin, what did you say?”

Sister Lin said, “What could I say?

I just said this house was given by you all, and the allowance too, they were so surprised, really curious!

Saying they didn’t expect such a good charity, said if they could meet you, they must get to know you well.

If there’s a chance to cooperate, it would be even better, it could help more people.

Oh, Gan Jing, you’re back now, let’s get acquainted later!”

“Okay.” Da Zhe replied nonchalantly with a smile, “No problem, we’re all in the same field, getting to know each other is good…

By the way, Sister Lin, let me help you serve the dishes!”

“Those young folks are really nice.” Sister Lin laughed, “Sometimes they’ll help buy groceries for me, a week’s worth.

Then sometimes they chat with me, read newspapers, clean the room, and take me out for walks.

Oh, they also said they want to organize street activities for the elderly, and take me to watch when the time comes.”

“Hmm, seems really good.” Da Zhe supported Sister Lin as they walked out.

“Right?” Sister Lin sat down, suddenly seemed to remember something, and suddenly asked, “Oh, Gan Jing, how long are you staying this time?

Last time you stayed over two months and then left for over half a year.”

“Not sure, depends on the situation.

But I should be here for a while…” Da Zhe said casually, “Why, is there anything?”

Sister Lin said, “If that’s the case, why don’t you come over to my place for dinner in two days?”

“Sure, dinner is okay?” Da Zhe laughed and asked, “Is there anything to celebrate?”

Sister Lin said, “Celebrate what?

Can’t Sister Lin invite you for dinner?

You didn’t even tell me when you returned.

Look, today I kept you for a meal and there’s barely anything, Sister Lin feels terrible, so I want to make something delicious for you.”

“Alright, I’ll come over.” Da Zhe nodded.

In two days…

it’s your birthday, how could I forget?

Without saying, I’m back too.

Da Zhe glanced at the calendar hanging on the wall.

Probably those volunteers brought it?

Da Zhe took out his phone, set the alarm sound, then put the phone on the table, and joined Sister Lin for the meal.

After the meal, Da Zhe washed the dishes, then prepared the dinner ingredients, placing them nearby for Sister Lin to use in the evening.

“Gan Jing, is your phone ringing?” Suddenly, Sister Lin called from the living room, “Where did you put your phone?”

“Oh, it’s mine, it’s mine.” Da Zhe quickly came out, “I put it on the table, didn’t notice.”

“Then hurry and answer.”

“Hello… it’s me.” Da Zhe immediately turned off the ringtone, while looking at Sister Lin, he casually said, “Now?

No no no, it’s fine, let me check the time?

How about three o’clock?

Okay, I’ll try!

Alright, bye.”

Sister Lin asked, “Gan Jing, did something happen?”

“Nothing, just a little thing.”

Sister Lin said, “You look quite anxious…

How about you go work first?

No need to stay until three just for me.

Besides, there’ll be plenty of opportunities, next time you can still meet the volunteers.”

“But…”

Sister Lin chuckled, “You, having time to visit me is great!

Go handle your affairs first, don’t miss the important work!

Or else Sister Lin will not be happy!”

“Alright then.” Da Zhe nodded, “I’ll come over for dinner in a couple of days, it’s settled.

Sister Lin, you have to make something delicious for me!”

“Alright!”

Da Zhe checked the time, half-past one.

Da Zhe quietly left the neighborhood, but didn’t go far.

Instead, he hid nearby, waiting until two o’clock when he saw some young men and women, dressed in red clothes and wearing caps, coming into the neighborhood and then he breathed a sigh of relief.

Looks like it’s a real volunteer team.

Da Zhe chuckled bitterly…

Today was spent in vain, after visiting Sister Lin, he suddenly didn’t know what to do.

Just then, suddenly the sound of a horn blared loudly from the roadside.

A Passat slowly stopped, rolled down the window, and a head popped out, “Brother Zhe!

Brother Zhe!”

It was Da Tou.

Da Zhe frowned, quickly walked up to Da Tou, and said seriously, “Don’t shout!”

“Then…

talk in the car?”

“You brat…” Da Zhe shook his head, but still got in the car, looked at Da Tou, and immediately asked, “What are you doing here?”

“Looking for you, what else?” Da Tou replied, “Didn’t you leave and not answer your phone?

I asked at your work site and they said you weren’t there.

At this time, I figured you hadn’t sneaked back to Sister… oh, ex-wife, ex-wife’s village.

Then there’s only Sister Lin’s place.

So, I just ran into you, haha, I’m really smart!”

Da Zhe then stared at Da Tou seriously, “Da Tou, I’m warning you, don’t tell anyone about Sister Lin.

Or else, I’ll take you down!”

“Got it, I won’t say even if you kill me.” Da Tou patted his chest and said, “I won’t mention how your earnings from these years of fast work have been used to take care of Sister Lin, buying houses and playing tricks arranging allowances, and how you have me send money every month… Damn, it’s so tempting, we’ve never seen you treat me like this, though we grew up wearing the same pair of trousers, our tough times as brothers!”

“I owe her.” Da Zhe looked out the window.

Da Tou looked at Da Zhe, sighed and said, “I mean, Brother Zhe, you can’t really blame you for what happened back then… It’s been so many years, isn’t it enough?”

“Enough, don’t talk about it.

My own matters, I’ll handle them myself.” Da Zhe knocked on the car window, his gaze somewhat sharp.

Da Tou then got a bit scared and pursed his lips tightly.

“Why did you come looking for me?” Da Zhe frowned then, “What’s the matter?

Is your boss still not giving up?

Treating my words like they’re wind in the ears?”

“I was just going to ask you!” Da Tou quickly said, “Brother Zhe, what did you say to President Xiao?

I saw his face turn all dark!

Oh, I’ll tell you, President Xiao suddenly made his wife and kids go on an out-of-town trip.”

“When did that happen?”

“Just after leaving Hongfu Tower this morning.” Da Tou said, “He was planning to have me buy flight tickets, I guess.

But probably worried I might tip you off, so he dropped it.

Haha, really thinks I’m dumb, right… Damn, I’m even in on his housemaid, know everything going on, haha!

But, Brother Zhe, wasn’t I reminding you before the Hongfu Tower meeting, why did you still go reckless when seeing President Xiao?

Speaking of this really pisses me off, did you go overboard on grabbing my collar?”

“Xiao Yu Cheng is really sneaky…” Da Zhe frowned at this moment, “He has his wife and kids go away, probably planning to deal with me these days…

Da Tou, take me to Luo Ting’s village to drop me off.

I’m a bit worried.

Then, you have to help me keep an eye on Xiao Yu Cheng’s actions!”

“This…

Brother Zhe, did you really go head-to-head with President Xiao?” Da Tou asked in terror.

“Drive away.”

Da Zhe closed his eyes and stopped talking.
