610: Chapter 23: The Twin Sal Trees 610: Chapter 23: The Twin Sal Trees When the lights in the operating room went out, the doctors who had been rescuing for several hours came out exhausted.

Lan Kai, who had been waiting at the door of the ward, stepped forward directly and grasped the doctor’s arm tightly, “Doctor?”

“We tried our best.” The doctor shook his head, “But the situation is not optimistic, the patient lost too much blood in the past few days, now…”

“You must save her no matter what!”

“Mr.

Lan, I understand your feelings.” The doctor said helplessly, “How about this, let’s move her to a separate ward first and see how things go, we will have someone watch over her twenty-four hours a day, if anything happens, we will deal with it immediately!”

Lan Kai finally let go of the doctor’s arm.

“General Lan?” The doctor was still unsure of Lan Kai’s intentions, he could only ask hesitantly.

“Why aren’t you going!!” Lan Kai suddenly waved his hand, roaring like a lion, as the master of Lan Corporation, his aura was more intimidating than the lifelessness on the dead bodies the doctor had seen.

“Yes, yes, immediately!” The doctor hurried away in a panic.

Seeing this, moonlight reached out with both hands from behind and held Lan Kai’s hands, gently pulling down his stiff arms in the air.

“I want to be alone for a while.” Lan Kai shook his head, withdrew his hands from moonlight’s, and turned away.

He untied his tie and threw it on the ground, took off his suit jacket and threw it on the ground too, his silhouette gradually moving away.

…

The tower in Central Union City has just recently opened, symbolizing the game’s opening of the marriage feature between players.

Many players have already tied the knot.

But today, the players planning to come for registration temporarily could not use the chapel on the highest ground because the guard said it had been booked.

No one knew who booked it, but most players were not inclined to spend high amounts for such virtual things in the game.

Practically speaking, completing the registration meant being legally ‘married’ in the game, what’s the point of a wedding for them?

It’s just another meaningless and wasteful formality—most male perspectives.

The other perspective was simpler and more violent—drop dead—the majority of female viewpoints.

No matter what others thought, she was already here, Qian Yu Xian Rou was already here.

Waiting, waiting, leaning against the stone window at the top layer of the tower, watching the sunlight climbing westward, waiting quietly.

…

In his memory, this was Qianxiu’s third visit here, the previous two times, he was always able to get a sleep on this mist-surrounded small bridge.

Maybe he could get the same result under the influence of alcohol this time too?

That was his hope, hoping that after today, it would be over.

But the fishing Mage was not seen today… which was also good because Qianxiu didn’t know how to answer Isolated Island Monkey’s question.

Even though it was a question he designed himself.

A bottle of strong wine has already been drunk halfway on the road, Qianxiu grabbed the bottle, shaking it…

no matter the turbulence, the outer bottle remained unchanged.

What’s the use of regaining the ability to act?

The past remains.

…

“Lan, General Lan.”

The nurse who just finished wiping Lanxiu’s body in the rehabilitation ward pushed the door open and saw Lan Kai standing silently at the door.

The appearance even frightened her… she didn’t know how to describe this young entrepreneur at this moment, just felt that at this moment, he seemed no different from any ordinary person.

Lan Kai’s eyes slightly glanced at the nurse.

The nurse’s heart skipped, just feeling the person’s normalcy seemed like an illusion… so she looked down, swiftly carrying the tray away from Lan Kai.

She walked quickly, frequently turning back… Lan Kai stood at the room’s door, motionless, but kept watching her.

The young nurse became more afraid, finally stopped turning back, opting to run… running out of Lan Kai’s sight.

Lan Kai finally entered the room, directly shut the door, locked it, came to the bedside, looked at Lanxiu on the bed, pulled out a chair, sat down.

Just looking at this brother of his blood ties.

After a long, long time, Lan Kai suddenly smiled, like a natural reflex, the action lasting a long time, his gaze fixed on Lanxiu’s face, finally speaking, “Do you know?

Xiao Rou is now lying in the hospital, life and death unknown, you’ve harmed her once again.”

The voice was soft, like talking about a simple matter.

Lan Kai tilted his head, looked at Lanxiu’s face from another angle, “I remember, the day father brought you back, moonlight was teaching Xiao Rou to play the piano, while I was reading beside them.

Then, you came.”

Lan Kai rubbed his fingers, thought for a while and said, “What to say?

At first glance, seeing you, clean, shy, felt like we were from two different worlds.

Yes, indeed from two different worlds.”

“Undoubtedly, you brought a great impact to us.

Someone I had never met suddenly became your relative, I guess you couldn’t accept it at once either?

But I know, neither I nor you had any way against such destinies.

If to blame, only to blame you and our father didn’t control themselves.”

“Do you remember the summer when you first came, the three of us played at the company’s holiday villa?

Never mind, no need to mention now, nothing more to say by now.”

…

“How could I forget?”

Qianxiu lay on the wooden board of the small bridge, the sunset in Emerald Fantasy was still orange-red today, since entering this mainland, he had never encountered a rainy day.

Holding the wine bottle, Qianxiu closed his eyes, pouring dream-like words to himself, “How could I forget that day it rained, the original plan cancelled?

Later, it was Xiao Rou who cried, you had no choice but led us sneakily out under the driver’s eyes.

We had played for a day, also happy, but the result was you were scolded harshly by dad, even fined a month of pocket money, and got a cold.”

Qianxiu smirked, opened his eyes again, the orange-red daylight dimmed some, “In my impression back then, you were a rule-abiding, conventional person.

That time being impulsive truly surprised me.

Later I understood, it was because you really pampered Xiao Rou…

how to say, I think I was a bit jealous.

Yes, jealous.”

…

“I know you’re jealous.” Lan Kai still looked at Lanxiu, tilted his head again, seeing his blood-relationship brother from another angle, “Just jealous.

No basis, but I just felt it.”

“I said so, from the beginning I knew we were from different worlds.

But you, like a menacing and sharp sword, stabbed into our world from another world.

Disrupted our serene and stable life.”

Lan Kai shook his head, “I truly am just a rule-abiding person, also willing to be such a person.

What’s wrong with that?”

He stared at Lanxiu, his gaze gradually sharp, “Tell me, what’s wrong with it?

But you, repeatedly impacted our life, in this home, flaunted father’s indulgence, acted recklessly, just like a Chaotic World big devil!

Truancy, fighting, smoking, stirring up trouble all day, indulged in evil!

For you, the father who’s busy with work, rarely come home for a meal, spent over half the time educating you, yet you always teased.”

Lan Kai chuckled aloud, “I just couldn’t understand, you never used the name of Lan family prince for these things.

I thought your jealousy stemmed from your childhood, but I finally understood, it’s something else.

Yes, I understood, Xiao Rou secretly told me, and I understood.

She said one night she saw you being punished to not finish dinner, standing outside all night, saw you secretly carrying some sweet potatoes from the kitchen, baking them with leaves in the yard food.

Eating, you cried, crying while eating, looked like a stray puppy.

This is how Xiao Rou described it, I’d never compare someone to a stray dog.

In my saying, you’re just a Devil Star!”

…

Sunset.

The tower’s gate still stood firm, she leaned against the window, watching the departing daylight, gazing obsessively, speaking softly to herself, “I don’t know if your feelings are good or bad, sometimes I really don’t understand, truly don’t understand… actually I didn’t want to learn the piano with sister Moonlight, I just wanted to watch cartoons, but you didn’t allow it, father didn’t allow it either.”

Xiao Rou smiled slightly, “Do you know?

That was the first time I sneaked around the room so late without sleeping, curiosity drove me out of the room, the first time I didn’t sleep at the prescribed time.

My heart was pounding wildly, both scared and excited, I held the plush doll you gave me, walked downstairs, quietly opened the door.

That night, I ate such delicious roasted sweet potatoes for the first time.

I didn’t know the leaves in our yard could roast sweet potatoes so deliciously.

Why?”

Xiao Rou shook her head.

Finally, the last bit of sunlight vanished over the horizon before she softly said, “Perhaps it’s because I snatched it from Second Brother, whereas if it were you, Big Brother, you would have given it to me, right?

He’s really different; he’s not like us at all.

You always call him the Devil Star.

Have you ever seen a Devil Star so unlucky?

Not allowed to finish meals, punished to stand outside in the freezing cold, shivering all over?”

“That night, Second Brother told me he actually didn’t want to come here with us.”

…

“I know you all think I’m a Devil Star!

You think so!

So do the workers in your household!”

Qianxiu suddenly stood up, raging as he pointed at the sky and started yelling, “So what if I’m a Devil Star?

Am I ruining your lives?

Aren’t you also ruining mine?

What are siblings?

I have none!

I’ve been alone all my life!

Why is it that you two are like the Prince and Princess in fairy tales?

Why is your relationship so good!

Why did that man change my life and then throw me among you!”

He forcefully smashed a wine bottle onto the wooden board, shattering it, then suddenly knelt down, “I don’t belong to your world.

No matter how hard I try, I can never belong to your world.”

“You are like a Knight, guarding your territory, unbreakable!”

“Hahahahahaha!!!”

Qianxiu took out another bottle of wine, tilted his head back and guzzled it down, letting the liquid wash over his face.

…

“I know you’re lonely!”

Lan Kai suddenly stood up from his chair, pointing a trembling finger at Lanxiu, “Your jealousy, your mischievousness, your inferiority—all of it stems from your loneliness!

Lanxiu, I’m telling you, I know!

I know all of this!

But that can’t be the reason for you to hurt this family!

That can’t be the reason for your union!”

His anger even twisted his face as he violently grabbed the collar of the unconscious Lanxiu, pulling him up, “Whether you want revenge or to destroy it doesn’t matter!

You can have a thousand reasons, but love cannot be one of them!!!

You actually fell in love with your sister!

Your blood sister!!”

…

“A reason?

I don’t know what reason.

How would I know what reason?”

“I really don’t know, what the reason is.”

“No one can give me a reason, not even myself,” Qianxiu shakily stood up, holding onto the wooden stake beside him, “Exactly, there’s no reason that can wash away this sin even a bit.”

…

“My life belongs to me, why must you all come up with these so-called reasons?

Can’t I live the way I want to without a reason?”

Xiao Rou’s face was drenched in tragic tears, “Who first defined morality?

Why must I follow this definition to be Lan Xiaorou?

Before being Lan Xiaorou, where is the real Lan Xiaorou?

What are blood ties?

Lan Xiaorou couldn’t choose her blood ties, and now not even who to love?

Just because of this one body related to the Lan family?

I’d rather not have it!”

…

“Wake up!!

If you have the ability, wake up!!”

Lan Kai violently slapped Lanxiu’s face, breaking his lips, making this unconscious man bleed from his mouth, “If you have the guts, wake up!!!

You dared to elope with Xiao Rou back then!

You could drive Father to death with anger!

You even regretted it enough to have the courage to commit suicide!

Why won’t you wake up now!!”

“You’re just lying there, ignoring everything!

What the hell are you!!!”

“Why did you have the courage to elope back then but didn’t actually take Xiao Rou away!

Take her away!

Take her away!!

Why did you leave her behind!!”

…

“You must really hate Second Brother, don’t you?

If you said you wanted to personally beat Second Brother to death, I would believe it without reservation.”

“Because I’ve always trusted you…

Big Brother, you knew about me and Second Brother long ago, but you always kept it a secret, didn’t you?

Thank you…”

…

“I also want to keep making mistakes!

I really do!!

I want to keep erring like this all the time!”

Qianxiu painfully grabbed his own hair, violently slamming his head against the wooden planks of the bridge, “Every second, every minute, I keep thinking… I can’t!

Father’s despairing eyes when he looked at me before he collapsed, Xiao Rou’s silent crying when she held onto Father’s body—I really can’t do it!!

I hesitated, I got scared, my courage shattered like glass!

Why do I exist?

Tell me!

All of you tell me!!!”

“Why am I alive!!

Is it a punishment?

I accept!!

I accept it all!!

I have even come to this world!

Since we are not from the same world, then I’ll disappear from your world completely!

Disappear forever… But…”

“Why can’t I do it?”

“She came too!” Qianxiu jabbed his finger into his chest, “She came here for a sinner like me!

She came here!!”

“Lan Kai!!

You bastard!!

Why didn’t you take good care of her!!

Don’t you know Xiao Rou’s personality?

She came here!!”

“She came here…”

…

“If Xiao Rou can’t wake up, I will throw you straight out.

Whether you’re swallowed by stray dogs, run over by a passing car, or whatever, it’s all up to fate!”

Lan Kai sat powerlessly on the floor, leaning against the edge of the bed, “I only have this one sister left, why…

did you harm her like this!

You devil star.”

…

“But I still hate you!

Lan Kai, I will hate you forever!!

I want you to never have peace!!

Why didn’t you let me go with Second Brother!!

Why did you bring Father here!!”

Like a screaming soul.

She began madly destroying everything in the chapel at the top of the high tower.

“Give me back my child!!!

Give it back to me!!!”

“You and Sister Moonlight are truly in love, right?

Well!!!

I will also make you understand the pain of being in love but not being able to be together!!

As long as I’m here, if she dares to walk through that door, I will send her out crying!”

“Lan Kai!!

I hate you!!!”

She knelt on the ground, covering her face and weeping, “Big Brother… why do you always indulge me like this…”

She lay down in the ruin-like church, clutching her clothes, weakly, “Blue sky, why haven’t you come to find me yet…”

…

…

When moonlight opened the door to the room, it was pitch dark; she had to turn on the lights.

Seeing Lan Kai sitting in a defeated manner in the corner against the wall, she also saw Lanxiu collapsed on the floor.

Moonlight was startled, instinctively covering her lips and hurried over to Lan Kai’s side, “Lan Kai, the driver told you came here… Lanxiu he… you just now…”

Lan Kai raised his empty gaze, “Moonlight, do you know, I just wanted to kill him.”

“Lan Kai…”

“I squeezed his neck forcefully, very forcefully.”

Lan Kai knelt up, gripping Moonlight’s hands, “I told myself it would end soon.

This nightmare will soon be over, over…”

“Lan Kai.” Moonlight sighed, hugging his head, smoothing his hair, “In the end, you couldn’t do it, right?”

“I have already prevented that child of Xiao Rou and Lanxiu from coming into this world… After Lanxiu committed suicide, I sent him off, telling Xiao Rou that he escaped.

I thought this way Xiao Rou would give up, I thought everything could return to the past, calm and peaceful… But it didn’t, I created a nightmare, a longer nightmare.

Moonlight, tell me, what else can I do?

What else can I do?

I… have no family left.”

He now only has this embrace.

Lan Kai hoarsely whispered, “Moonlight, you know… The taste of loneliness, it’s really unbearable.”
