Building a Technological Power Starting with the Type 59 missile and Going Astray in Technological Development

Chapter 169 Is this a J-10 fighter jet?Chapter 169 Is this a J-10 fighter jet?
The reason why the design and development team of the third-generation fighter came here was to see whether the basalt special materials of the 077 Mechanical Military Factory could be used on the J-10 fighter.

The main reason is that the 077 Mechanical Military Factory has successfully developed various types of composite materials based on basalt special steel, and announced the relevant parameters of a variety of special composite materials internally.

This move immediately attracted the attention of the J-10 fighter design and development team. Subsequently, through the mediation of the Yan State military, the two sides were able to meet.

”Chief Engineer Song Wen, we will talk about the special metal materials later. First, please introduce your company’s J-10 fighter so that we can have a clearer understanding of it and better choose the special composite materials that match it.”

“Even if there is no suitable special metal composite material available, we can develop one specifically for you according to your needs.”

Lin Chenran seemed very confident. After all, in the field of composite materials, the 077 Machinery Arsenal was undoubtedly in a leading position.

Have this ability!
”Everyone, we need to get ready first.”

Song Wen first apologized and signaled his design and development team to start taking action and make preparations.

”No problem, Chief Engineer Song Wen, please get ready first. We are looking forward to seeing the J-10 fighter jet.”

Lin Chenran smiled slightly.

Soon, the design and development team of the J-10 fighter was ready and reported the situation to Song Wen.

Then, Song Wen began to briefly introduce the J-10 fighter jet designed and developed by his company to everyone present.

The J-10 fighter jet adopts a high-thrust turbofan engine and a canard aerodynamic layout. It is a medium-sized, multi-functional, supersonic, all-weather air superiority fighter.

The J-10 fighter jet is 14.57 meters long.

Wingspan 8.78 meters

Machine height: 5.3 meters

Maximum speed: Mach 2.0
Maximum ceiling: 18000 meters

Combat radius 1100 km
Maximum range 2500 km
Maximum take-off weight 19277 kg
Bomb load: 7000 kg
Thrust-to-weight ratio greater than 1.1
Power system: The first production model of the J-10 uses the Soviet-made AL-31FN turbofan engine.

This made Lin Chenran a little confused, and he couldn’t help but ask Chief Engineer Song Wen: ”Chief Engineer Song Wen, does the J-10 fighter use the Soviet AL-31FN turbofan engine?”

Lin Chenran asked: ”Can you sell the Mao Bear to us?”

This advanced engine technology is an important strategic resource for any country and cannot be easily sold to other countries.

Lin Chenran thought further, he pointed out: ”The main AL-31FN turbofan engine is the engine of the Su-27 fighter, which was just developed not long ago.

If we rely on foreign engine technology, we will face huge difficulties if there are political or economic changes.

Without mastering core technologies, Yan’s aviation industry will always be in a passive position.

Faced with such doubts, Chief Engineer Song Wen didn’t know how to answer for a moment.

At this time, a member of the J-10 fighter design and development team said: ”Mr. Lin, now we are just imagining it.”

His attitude seemed nonchalant, but Lin Chenran didn’t think so.

”It’s unthinkable. After all, you have to prepare for design and research and development. Once it is completed, what if Russia doesn’t sell the AL-31FN turbofan engine?” Lin Chenran retorted directly.

It is not advisable to rely on others for key technologies. We must have independent innovation and R&D capabilities.

”Boss Lin, as you know, our domestic engine technology is very backward, and the Taihang turbofan engine project we established has stagnated.”

Chief Engineer Song Wen frowned, worried about the current state of domestic engine technology.

According to Song Wen’s idea, if a ”Yan Guoxin” can be installed on the J-10 fighter, then this fighter will become more powerful.

However, the reality is not optimistic, because the research and development project of the Taihang turbofan engine has been stagnant, and it is highly unlikely that we will be able to take this ”ride”. Song Wen shook his head helplessly, and then continued: ”But we have reserved enough space and position to replace it with ’Yan Guoxin’ at any time.

As long as the Taihang turbofan engine is successfully developed, it can replace the original engine.”

The research and development of the Taihang turbofan engine has been full of twists and turns.

In its past, the Taihang turbofan engine began preliminary research in 1978 and the design review and assessment was finally completed on December 2005, 12. The entire process lasted 28 years.

Although the Yan State military now attaches great importance to the research and development of the J-10 fighter, the research and development of the Taihang turbofan engine is still full of challenges.

The domestic turbofan engine technology in Yan’s country is relatively backward and there is a big gap with the world’s advanced level.

Lin Chenran couldn’t help but think about how to introduce advanced turbofan engines from the Russian bear.

While the Russian bear is falling, Lin Chenran can take advantage of the situation and introduce advanced turbofan engine technology and production lines from the other side.

”Chief Engineer Song Wen, please continue!”

Lin Chenran spoke slowly.

The J-10 fighter uses a 1473 pulse Doppler radar, which uses a traditional mechanical scanning method.

Its performance parameters are as follows: maximum search distance is 160 kilometers, upward line-of-sight range is 100 kilometers, downward line-of-sight range is 80 kilometers, and rear-line line-of-sight range is 40 kilometers. It can track 16-20 targets at the same time and can attack 6-8 of the most threatening air targets at the same time.

Hearing this, Lin Chenran frowned unconsciously.

The 1473 pulse Doppler radar is just an ordinary radar, and most of the third-generation fighter jets in the world have begun to adopt more advanced active phased array radars.

In comparison, the J-10 fighter is still at the stage of using ordinary radar, which undoubtedly seems a bit outdated and backward.

It reflected the limitations of the J-10 fighter design and development team at the time. They failed to keep up with the pace of the times and chose a relatively conservative technical solution.

Song Wen noticed that Lin Chenran frowned from time to time, and his heart couldn’t help but skip a beat.

He attached great importance to Lin Chenran’s ideas because he was well aware of the other party’s strength and talent.

Among the many third-line military factories, Lin Chenran is a well-known genius, and his insights are often unique.

”General Lin, do you have any idea about our J-10 fighter jets using 1473 pulse Doppler radar?”

Song Wen looked at Lin Chenran and spoke modestly.

”Chief Engineer Song Wen, why doesn’t the J-10 fighter use the active phased array radar that is standard on third-generation fighters?”

Lin Chenran put forward his idea again.

”Active phased array radar?”

”Boss Lin, we don’t have any research on active phased array radar in our country?”

A J-10 fighter team explained.

”Forehead?”

”Our J-10 fighter jets are at a very obvious disadvantage when compared to other countries’ third-generation fighter jets.”

Radar is like the eyes of a fighter jet.

With advanced radar, it can detect opponents faster.
