Summoners War: Only I Summoned Divine Beasts

Chapter 797: Unexpected Problem

Nathan let out a long sigh. He couldnʼt refute those words since he was already aware of that perspective.

That was why Duke Coline chose to shift the topic instead. ”Still, did you watch my fight clearly?”

Nathan nodded. ”Yes.”

”Did you get anything?”

”A new perspective.”

Duke Coline smiled. ”Thatʼs good then.”

”Yes, thank you very much.”

Duke Coline glanced at Selena and Flora. ”Well, it does seem that thereʼs another one who understands how I fought earlier. What is your name, young lady?”

”Eh?” Selena didnʼt expect that Duke Coline would notice her. As soon as she regained her composure, she replied, ”Selena. Selena Ashton.”

”Ashton? Wait. Selena? Are you the daughter of that eccentric count? You are still alive?” Duke Coline raised his eyebrows.

”I donʼt know about this eccentric count nickname, as I was probably not old enough to know that nickname when it was still around. However, my father is Count Nick Ashton.”

”I see. So, youʼre truly his daughter.” Duke Coline nodded in understanding. ”Nick was a good guy. Unfortunately, he couldnʼt see his daughterʼs progress. I just hope that someone is able to help him.”

”!!!” Selena looked surprised, noticing the hidden meaning behind his words.

Nathan explained, ”Ehm… We are about to help him. The reason we came here is so that I have the material to summon my fifth familiar so that we have enough strength to help him.”

”What? Youʼre going to help him?”

”Yes.” Nathan nodded. ”We have reached an agreement with the Sword Saint. He would tell us his whereabouts if we passed his test.”

”Hoh?” Duke Coline looked amused. He fell into deep thought, as though he noticed another problem.

Duke Colineʼs expression turned grim as he dropped a bomb. ”Unfortunately, thatʼs impossible.”

”Huh?” Nathan raised his eyebrows while Selena widened her eyes in shock.

”What do you mean, Master?” Flora asked.

”I donʼt really want to break your hope, but itʼs impossible to save her father. Itʼs not about the path to go there. Itʼs just… thereʼs no way to save him.”

”No way. What do you mean?” Selena bit her lips.

”Hmm… I donʼt know if I should say it or not.” Duke Coline crossed his arms, feeling troubled.

”Master. Please! Even if you donʼt tell us, we will still go there and find it out ourselves.” Flora grabbed Duke Colineʼs arm, begging him to reveal the truth.

”Well…” Duke Coline looked hesitant. Ultimately, he clicked his tongue and raised one finger. ”Nick, that boy, is still alive. Thatʼs something clear. In fact, I had gone there myself to save him.

”However, when I got there, I saw Nick getting sealed inside a blood-red crystal. His life was suspended inside that crystal.

”That crystal was the one keeping him alive. At the same time, it was also the one that could end his life.

”The reason was quite complex. In fact, I didnʼt understand it completely either.

”The crystal was planted in the ground. It was absorbing blood, either from animal, human, or even the alien, using it as nourishment to keep him alive.

”That crystal was so hard that even my magic couldnʼt even put a scratch in it. If I had to explain it, the power of that crystal was the combination of someoneʼs life and an artifact.

”The aliens couldnʼt destroy it either, so all I can say is that he is still alive, but not really alive.

”There is no way to get him out. At least, after searching for that answer for five years, I couldnʼt see any path to bring him out there. Thatʼs why I say itʼs impossible to save him.”

Selena looked down, despair reflecting in her eyes.

Nathan clenched his hands into fists. ”Why do you think itʼs impossible to save him? What is that crystal to begin with?”

”In that place, there was a rumor about a crystal that had been smeared by hundreds of thousands of peopleʼs blood. Itʼs called the Bloodstone.

”That artifact probably manifested itself once it sensed your father in danger and tried to save him by sealing him inside.

”But if you get him out of there and put him somewhere safe, he might not get enough nourishment from blood and end up dying inside. I have thought about putting him on a battlefield where he can absorb more blood, but I donʼt know if the crystal is going to get even stronger or not after absorbing all that blood.

”Hence, I let him stay there. Itʼs a perfect place to keep your father alive without introducing any unexpected variables.

”After researching this stone for five years, I have come to the conclusion that itʼs impossible to break it. Even the Sword Saintʼs strongest strike wonʼt be enough to break it. No. Thereʼs also a possibility that breaking it might end up endangering your fatherʼs life, considering itʼs linked to your father.

”So, Iʼm afraid I canʼt give you any solution.” Duke Coline sighed. ”Even after consulting with a lot of people, I still canʼt find any hope for him.”

”…” Selena dropped to her knees, her body trembling. She had been doing her best to save him this whole time, but if it was impossible to save him, why would she work so hard?

Besides, Duke Coline was an important person. With all those high-level connections and strength, if even someone like Duke Coline couldnʼt find a way, could they actually find a way?

Flora hurriedly bent her knees while stroking Selenaʼs back, trying to comfort her. Meanwhile, Nathan bit his lips. Seeing how his woman was about to fall into despair, he definitely couldnʼt let this continue, especially since he was about to go on a mission precisely to save her father.

He even wondered why Duke Sullivan didnʼt even tell them about such an important thing. Then again, he might be worried about Selenaʼs condition. If she found it out herself, she might realize there might still be something she could do, which wouldnʼt make her lose all hope.

Nathan gritted his teeth before turning to Anubis. He was their doctor, so there might be something he knew.

Anubis simply said, ”Impossible. I donʼt have the ability to save someone like that.”

When even Nathan was about to give up, Anubis added, ”But…”
