Summoners War: Only I Summoned Divine Beasts

Chapter 668: Fake

”Hehe. Weʼre finally done.” Flora stretched her hand. ”I guess the mayor is pretty cooperative.”

Jinwu perched on Nathanʼs shoulder while saying casually, ”Do you notice anything from the mayor, Summoner? To think you would make me lie about the report.”

”Huh? Youʼre lying?” Flora blinked her eyes in disbelief.

”Yes. He asked me to lie. He probably wanted to test the mayor. By mixing some truth with lies, we can create a believable scenario. If the enemies somehow catch wind of our operation, itʼs clear that the mayor is involved.”

”Still, youʼre giving some correct information?” Flora gasped. ”What if they use it against us?”

Nathan smiled. ”Well, thereʼs a type of person I admire.”

”A type of person? What kind of person is he?”

”The type of person who can make his opponent hesitate and overthink even from a single smile.” Nathan smirked. ”By mixing some truths and lies together, even if the enemies know about it, they will think the mayor has given them some false information.

”It can be said that Iʼm planting the idea that the mayor has betrayed them. As a result, they will doubt the mayor and all his reports. All I have to do is adjust my plan accordingly and defeat them.

”Things like the encirclement of the soldiers are basically something they canʼt change, so I can simply tell him the truth.

”By creating the image that Iʼm able to make such a clever move most of the time, my opponents will wonder what kind of things I have prepared against them when Iʼm not even doing anything. This reputation will be useful in the future once I manage to build that image.”

Flora gasped. ”Are you a devil?”

”Iʼm not.” Nathan shrugged. ”Anyway, Iʼll tell you about the real plan and adjustment once we return to the inn. Of course, it also means the location to place the traps.”

”Oh! Iʼm getting excited. So, are we going to…” Flora tugged Nathanʼs arm. Even though she didnʼt say it, it was easy to figure out what she wanted.

Nathan chuckled. ”Once weʼre done with this. We need our top condition to defeat these many people.”

Flora looked away, feeling a bit embarrassed. ”I know. Hopefully, the mayor is not related to them.”

”Yeah. Iʼm hoping for the same thing. Besides, he is the perfect person for me to figure out the problems of the city. Even though our city is not at this stage, itʼs basically because we have a lot of things to work on. Once that progress slows down, our place might end up falling to the same state. Thatʼs why I want to think of a possible solution.”

Flora smiled. ”Look at you, youʼre more like a noble than me.”

Nathan shrugged. ”If we plan to go on a honeymoon, there is a need for the people to survive. I donʼt plan to go to a ghost town for a honeymoon after all. If the cities are empty or only have several people surviving, itʼs not going to be fun anymore.

”Thatʼs why I will help them, even if I do it only for my selfishness.”

Flora smiled wryly. ”Well, selfishness aside… There are people who donʼt even care about it. So, Iʼd rather have someone like you.”

Nathan harrumphed.

”Still, I wonder if those kids will take the job or not.”

”They will definitely take the job, but thereʼs a chance that not all of them will participate together.”

”Fair enough.” Flora sighed. ”Iʼm sorry. Because of my trying to take them in, you will have to consider their survival too.”

”Itʼs fine.” Nathan waved his hand. ”Though, Iʼm still perplexed. Whatʼs the biggest reason for you to take them in?”

”You probably have predicted it. Itʼs to grow our household. Besides, the twins should be from a noble family, right? They should be knowledgeable enough to help us run the city. Besides, we might have to leave the city if we want to go to another continent. Iʼm curious too, as to what kind of secrets other continents have. You will bring me with you, right?”

Nathan scratched the back of his head. ”Weʼll talk about it later. Anyway, letʼs go back soon. I donʼt really want to catch peopleʼs attention here… at least not yet. By the way, Jinwu, have you seen them distributing the food?”

”Yes. Well, I should say itʼs awful.”

”Why? Are they not doing their job?” Flora frowned. ”I might have to consider their qualification for the cloud-repelling device if thatʼs the case…”

”No.” Jinwu shook his head. ”The government seems to be doing as theyʼre supposed to. However, the thugs make everyone miserable. Theyʼre stealing their food to fill up their bellies even more.

”The food station is not good either. The people have a hard time lining up. The nutrition is also limited. Because of the ash, there are not a lot of sources of meat, so they might end up in a malnourished state after so long.

”Even if we have solved the staple food problem, they canʼt go on like this,” Jinwu sighed.

”Thatʼs…” Flora frowned. ”I believe my father is also trying to find that solution.”

Nathan, on the other hand, couldnʼt help but wonder, ʼIn that future-like dream… have I solved the food problem? And despite that… have I failed to save a lot of people? Is this the reason the world falls?ʼ

Nathan sighed. He couldnʼt really find an answer to that question.

ʼAt this rate, we might not be able to find meat at all. Will the whole world become vegan? I donʼt have any grudge against them, but I just hope that people eat everything so that they get a balanced diet.ʼ

Flora couldnʼt help but feel moved when Nathan thought about the people that much. Even though he kept saying he had politics, he still tried to help as many people as possible, much better than a lot of nobles.

Flora calmed him down while saying, ”There, there. Calm down. We can think about it once weʼre done with this mission. Letʼs get some rest and find the kids tomorrow.”

Little did they know, they would get plenty of surprises from the kid the next day.
