Summoners War: Only I Summoned Divine Beasts

Chapter 614: A Letter (Bonus)

”The brainwash is rather complicated and annoying. They are using drugs, mind manipulation ability, and even propaganda. There are a lot of people who canʼt recall their past or more like blurry, as if those memories are buried deep into their minds. Thereʼs a chance itʼs still there, so you can consider it like an amnesia for the time being,” Neyeid explained while clicking his tongue.

”Is that so? Is it similar to our Sonia?” Evelyn asked.

”Yeah.” Neyeid nodded.

”Is that so?” Sonia thought for a moment. It looked like she might be able to discover her identity in one way or another. If that was the case, she should at least do one more thing for them while they were figuring out the truth.

She was curious, but repaying them was much more important.

”In that case, I should go to Nathanʼs sweetheart and watch over her.” Sonia stood up.

”Are you sure?”

”Yes. You guys are better than me at sorting out stuff.” Sonia shrugged. ”Besides, Iʼve made a promise.”

Evelyn paused for a few seconds before nodding her head. ”All right. Are you going to be fine? You have used a considerable amount of ena.”

”Donʼt worry. I should be able to recover in one day.” Sonia turned to Nathan. ”You have told her about the timing, right?”

Nathan nodded. ”Yeah.”

…

*Knock!*

*Knock!*

”Miss Selena Ashton. Are you in there? I am Lena, a second-year from the Frexia Academy. Iʼve been asked to deliver you a letter from the principal.”

”Enter.” A hoarse voice followed with a cough echoed from the inside. It was Selenaʼs voice.

When the person entered, she found Selena wearing her pajamas. Her face was pale and her body looked weak.

Selena squinted her eyes. The person who entered her house was actually a young girl. She was wearing a school uniform, which confirmed her identity. ”Lena, was it?”

”Yes.” Lena nodded. ”I apologize for suddenly coming. I have brought you a letter from the principal.”

”Is that so? Thank you very much.” Selena nodded. ”Do you want to have tea before leaving?”

Selena coughed, which made Lena look worried.

”No need. Miss Selena… I mean, Vice President, you should rest. Your condition doesnʼt look—!” Before she could finish her words, Seraʼs voice echoed from the outside.

”What are you doing?”

”!!!” Both of them turned their heads, finding Sera approaching.

”Selena. What are you doing? You should have been on the bed. I just left you for a moment and you started doing this again?

”Because Nathan is not here right now, you have been pushing yourself too far to the point where you fall sick. At this rate, Nathan will be furious once heʼs back three days later.”

”Isnʼt it fine? Nathan can just heal me.” Selena smiled wryly.

”Iʼve told you previously. Even though Nathanʼs healing ability is powerful, itʼs still a physical regeneration. In other words, itʼs only the treatment for physical injuries. Sickness, curses, and the like are different.” Sera sighed.

”Well…” Selena rubbed her cheek embarrassedly.

Meanwhile, Selena sat down and grabbed the letter. ”It seems the principal wants to meet me. I should go.”

”Wait. You canʼt leave right now. Youʼre sick!”

”Itʼs fine. I have to go. This is my chance to become the sageʼs disciple. I need to go, even if I have to drag myself.”

”Then I should accompany you. Itʼs not like itʼs urgent, right?”

She shook her head. ”He wants me to go alone. He will probably ask me to formally acknowledge him as my teacher and announce it.”

”I canʼt allow it. At least, wait until tomorrow. Just make sure you get a bit better or else. Iʼm sure he can understand.”

”Yes, Vice President. You should take care of yourself. I can even tell the principal about your condition.” Lena politely bowed her head before leaving the house. She was shocked that the sage wanted Selena to be his student, but she probably needed to keep it to herself. ”Iʼll take my leave.”

…

Lena immediately exited the city. Even though she was curious about this small town, she had to go back for a certain reason.

Once she left, she was stopped by a middle-aged man in the middle of the road.

”Have you… sent the letter?” The middle-aged man asked.

Hearing that hesitating tone, she nodded to assure him. ”Yes. I have sent the letter. Still, you are her uncle, right? You should have been the one sending the letter yourself.”

That was right. The middle-aged man was actually Selenaʼs uncle, the acting count of the Ashton family, Ray Ashton.

Ray sighed. ”As much as I want to do that, our relationship is sour right now. I canʼt afford to go there. How is she?”

”As you said, she is sick. I could see how pale her face was.” Lena nodded. ”If her man were here, she would probably get reprimanded for not taking care of herself.”

”What? He is not there?”

”Yeah?” Lena tilted her head in confusion.

”Why is he not there? She is sick, so he should have taken care of her. This guy is really not good. He has been manipulating her and making her think that all the care I have provided is a bad thing.” He sighed, disappointed. Meanwhile, he added inwardly, ʼOh. The information they provided was correct. She is sick, and this is perfect.ʼ

Lena looked at Ray with an understanding look. Her uncle looked worried about her even going all the way to bring a letter so that she could send someone to check on her.

It was a familial love. On the other hand, Nathan hadnʼt been taking care of her. He wasnʼt even around when she was sick. How could a man be that cold?

Lena sighed. ”Mister. If you are still worried, you should visit her. Iʼm sure that she will understand. It looks like he will return in three days, so you have three days to check on her, Mister.”

”Itʼs fine. As long as I can make sure she is alright, Iʼm satisfied.”

”In any case, it doesnʼt seem she can go outside right now. Even her friend told her to rest for today and go to the academy tomorrow.”

”Is that so? As long as she is alright… If she isnʼt, I will convince her on the road and bring her back so that she can get some rest. Thank you so much.” Ray politely bowed to her.

It was quite shocking for a count to lower his head, but this showed how big the affection he had as an uncle was.

She bowed back. ”In that case, Iʼll take my leave.”

”Yes.” Ray nodded while smiling inwardly. ʼTomorrow, huh? Itʼs a shame that I canʼt kill her today, but Iʼll make sure she dies tomorrow.ʼ
