Stop Fooling the Us, China Really is Doing This!

Chapter 331 Who is Chen Jian?Early the next morning, Su Chen was preparing to continue delving into the project details!

The phone rang again. He picked it up and saw it was a call from Elder Zhao.

As soon as the call connected, Elder Zhao’s booming voice came through, filled with a hint of curiosity and urgency:

”You brat, what exactly is this ’Spirit Realm’ you’re working on!”

”Elder Qin told me you could create a world led by us, which has me totally confused. Hurry up and tell me, what on earth is going on?”

Su Chen heard this and grinned, deliberately playing coy as he said:

”Elder Zhao, it’s not something I can explain clearly over the phone in a short time. Once the project is finished, you’ll know.”

”However, I can assure you that this is definitely an awesome technology. It will certainly open your eyes when the time comes, so just wait and see!”

Seeing Su Chen give such a solemn guarantee, Elder Zhao’s curiosity was piqued even further!

He became even more expectant and said with a smile:

”Alright, then I’ll wait to see what kind of big commotion you brat can stir up. Don’t let us down!”

After hanging up the phone, Su Chen immersed himself in his research again with single-minded focus, much like a recluse in meditation. Once he dived in, time flew by, and three months passed before he knew it.

During this period, he declined all visits and meeting requests, locking himself inside the Laboratory, spending his days accompanied by various data, blueprints, and equipment, pouring all his heart into the Spirit Realm project!

Seeing this stance from Su Chen, Elder Qin and the others understood that this brat was definitely about to do something big!

Therefore, they tacitly agreed not to disturb him, only silently monitoring the progress of the project, looking forward to him bringing good news soon.

One day, three months later, Su Chen finally called Elder Qin. As soon as the call connected, Elder Qin joked:

”You brat, you’ve finally come out of seclusion. You’ve kept us waiting anxiously. How is the project progressing?”

Su Chen’s voice remained calm and steady, though it carried a hint of undisguisable fatigue as he said:

”Elder Qin, I need help.”

Hearing this, Elder Qin immediately became serious and hurriedly said:

”Little Chen, tell me, I’m listening. As long as it’s something I can help with, I will definitely do my best to handle it!”

Su Chen then detailed his current needs regarding manpower, resources, and all other aspects to Elder Qin. Elder Qin listened while nodding repeatedly, recording it seriously. Once Su Chen finished speaking, he immediately responded:

”Rest assured, I will arrange for people to handle it. You can just focus on continuing your research, and let me know at any time if you have any problems.”

That very day, Elder Qin acted decisively and dispatched people to implement all the matters Su Chen required!

Moreover, he constantly inquired about the progress by phone. The level of importance he attached to it could be said to be treating Su Chen’s request as a state affair!

Meanwhile, within a domestic company considered top-tier in VR technology, the atmosphere seemed exceptionally oppressive.

The person in charge Chen Jian was frowning deeply, his gaze fixed tightly on the quarterly report in front of him. His expression looked as if he were not reading a simple report, but rather a death sentence concerning the company’s survival.

The VR product sales data presented on this quarterly report was truly distressing; calling it bleak was not enough to describe it—it was simply unbearable to look at.

The sales figures were pitifully low, like withered branches in winter, devoid of any vitality, forming a stark and cruel contrast with the high hopes the company had once placed on its VR products.

The company’s other directors were also sitting in a circle at this time, each with a grave expression, sighing repeatedly.

One of the directors was the first to break this suffocating silence and advised:

”Old Chen, give it up. The hype for VR has already passed. The wind in the market has long since changed. If we keep insisting like this, it’s just a waste of effort.”

”Let’s switch to doing AR! Look at that Fruit Company’s AR glasses; one can sell for tens of thousands, and so many people are chasing after them. Even if we just copy them, with our price advantage, the sales definitely won’t be bad.”

Another director also echoed:

”Yeah, even if you don’t do AR, can you change that so-called principle of yours?”

”Always fixated on creating content for the VR world—how exhausting! Why not just port over existing games? It saves time and effort, and we could quickly launch the product to capture the market. Isn’t that great?”

”The market won’t wait for us now. We must find a way to transform, otherwise, we’ll really be eliminated.”

Chen Jian felt incredibly unwilling to accept this as he listened to these words.

He was originally a technician with lofty ideals. From the moment he stepped into the VR technology field, he had harbored a dream in his heart of building a wonderful world using VR technology!

He longed to let people truly experience that immersive, transcendental feeling through VR devices, as if opening a door to a brand-new world.

In his vision, that VR world had endless possibilities; people could freely explore, create, and socialize within it—what a desirable scene that would be.

But now, looking at the company’s terrible business situation, he knew deeply that if he continued to insist on his own ideas, this dream that had yet to take shape would likely die prematurely. How could he be willing to accept that?

However, he also had to face reality. After all, he was no longer just a technician; he was the person in charge of this company, and there were so many employees under him counting on him for their livelihood.

If he continued to be stubborn and insisted on VR technology R&D while ignoring market feedback, he feared that in the end, not only would his own dream be shattered, but he would also implicate his employees, causing them to suffer and even face the predicament of unemployment.

On one side was the ideal he cared about so much and didn’t want to give up, and on the other was the cruel, relentless reality that had been tested by the market and made the ideal difficult to achieve. At this moment, Chen Jian fell into a deep inner struggle, and his originally firm belief finally began to waver.

Just then, his secretary, Xiao Li, suddenly knocked gently and then pushed the door open and walked in. At this, everyone’s gaze involuntarily fell upon him.

Xiao Li said with a hint of apology: ”Sorry, Boss, and directors, someone wants to see the Boss.”

One of the directors, who was already in a foul mood, heard this and said somewhat impatiently:

”We’re busy with important matters! Who is it? Can’t you make him wait outside? Seriously, can’t you see we’re discussing important business?”

Just as he finished speaking, a calm and powerful voice sounded from behind the young secretary:

”Sorry to disturb you all.”

Everyone looked towards the sound and saw a young man in a black trench coat walk in. He exuded an aura of mystery and capability.

He calmly took out a small black booklet from his bosom and showed it to everyone. In an instant, everyone present widened their eyes, and then, as if spring-loaded, they stood up with a ”whoosh.”

Especially that director who had been full of impatience just a moment ago—there was no trace of impatience on his face now; he had long since replaced it with a smiling expression, his attitude having done a 180-degree turn.

The person who arrived swept his gaze across everyone’s faces, then said unhurriedly:

”I am from the National Secrecy Bureau. May I ask who is Chen Jian?”
