The Daily Life Of A Cyberpunk Magician

Chapter 215 - 163 Magic: Spirit Monster_2
Chapter 215: Chapter 163 Magic: Spirit Monster_2The first rule, because of the fear of failure, you do not mention it.

But it was ineffective against Jiang Shu, for his performances were nearly always assured of success.

The second rule, for fear of being figured out upon a second performance, you do not perform it again.

However, this too was ineffective against Jiang Shu; he simply wouldn’t perform a second time.

Performing the same magic act twice was too dull for him, besides, he had long past the phase of accumulating performance experience.

The third rule, the crux is that the secrets of magic should not be gratuitously imparted—it’s actually about protecting the interests of the magicians’ industry.

Yet still, ineffective against Jiang Shu. In Lonely City, he was the sole magician, and moreover, he understood these matters far better than anyone else.

No one! Understands magic better than I do!

”Teacher, your new performance is tonight, are you really not going to prepare properly?” Su Xiaoou checked the time, ”You only have seven hours left.”

This time’s performance had nothing to do with her, which is why she had run out to practice—then she looked at Jiang Shu...

He also seemed to be unfazed.

”No rush, Spirit Magic is all about following the heart’s desire,” Jiang Shu said, shaking his head slightly, looking a bit eccentric, ”I just need to rehearse the lines in my head.”

”The other stuff...” he smiled confidently, ”just let it happen naturally.”

”Really?” Su Xiaoou blinked.

Only after she had performed for a while and experienced failures did she realize that Spirit Magic was not as simple as Jiang Shu had described!

It was much more profound than she could grasp!

”Also, tonight’s performance is likely to be comprised of several segments, my requirement for you is very simple, you should be able to discern a few basic principles, right?” Jiang Shu said leisurely, ”Don’t worry, they’re mainly variations based on the fundamental principles I’ve taught you. I’ve noticed that you’re not bold enough when it comes to packaging magic and haven’t really found your own style of performance. In any case, consider tonight’s observation as a monthly test.”

Su Xiaoou’s heart skipped a beat; finally, the more terrifying thing than the weekly tests had arrived.

Monthly test!

But...

The basics of the basics?

Impossible!

She must score well!

——

At 7:29 p.m.

Five thousand spectators sat in their venue, silently awaiting the night’s sole protagonist.

Only one minute remained, and the audience in the first five rows, as if by tacit agreement, turned their attention to the stage, while those sitting behind took out...

Telescopes provided by the Black Currant Theater.

Called telescopes, they were actually more like glasses, with a function resembling that of telescopes.

With Prosthetic Eyes banned, they had no choice but to purchase such items to experience the atmosphere on-site.

Sister Mei was ecstatic.

At 7:30 p.m., the curtain opened, and Jiang Shu, dressed in black, appeared on stage.

”Good evening, everyone, welcome to my personal magic show, and tonight’s theme is—” Jiang Shu said with a slight smile, then slowly announced tonight’s performance theme, ”Spirit Monsters.”

”In this world, in places unseen by us, there exists a Spirit Monster,” he began his introduction, ”It possesses extremely strong mental abilities.”

Jiang Shu paused, his gaze sweeping over the stage and then addressing the audience, as if searching for something.

The audience followed his gaze, but of course they saw nothing.

Because Jiang Shu himself saw nothing.

”However, it has no physical form, it may exist, it might not,” he continued, ”And today, I’ll attempt to prove its existence.”

”First, before the magic performance begins, we need to perform an inspection. There’s a glass cabinet on the table,” Jiang Shu pointed to the table, which had a glass cabinet on it as he mentioned, ”Now I’d like to invite an audience member to check the glass cabinet, to make sure it hasn’t been tampered with.”

He pulled out a stack of plastic frisbees from under the table and continued, ”Next, I will throw frisbees at random, and I’d like the audience member who catches one to come up on stage. Let me state beforehand that all audience members invited on stage tonight are not plants; they are randomly selected.”

Then, Jiang Shu turned and threw the frisbees behind him, and the frisbee spun towards the middle of the audience seats, where the audience member who caught it waved it excitedly before proceeding to the stage.

”Very good.” Jiang Shu walked with him to the table, ”Now let’s check this glass cabinet. It’s just a simple glass cabinet, isn’t it? Untouched.”

The invited audience member nodded, stepped forward to check the glass cabinet, looked over it top and bottom, lifted it to observe carefully, then knocked on the glass to listen to the sound.

”It’s just an ordinary glass cabinet, nothing strange about it,” the audience member declared, then affirmed, ”I’m sure.”

”Excellent, do you see those playing cards next to the glass cabinet? Now, I want you to pick them up and place them inside the glass cabinet,” Jiang Shu directed, pointing to a deck of cards by the glass cabinet, watching the audience member, and continuing slowly, ”Yes, lock it.”

He added, ”Don’t peek at the cards inside.”

”Alright,” the audience member continued nodding, doing as Jiang Shu instructed and placing the playing cards inside the glass cabinet and locking it.

”Very good, now,” Jiang Shu kept issuing instructions, ”there is a rope hanging in the middle of the stage, yes, that one.”

”Now you can thread one end of the rope through the ring atop the glass cabinet; there’s a clip there, you need to secure it. Are you sure you can handle this arduous task? Perhaps we should try someone else,” Jiang Shu concluded.
