The Daily Life Of A Cyberpunk Magician

Chapter 206 - 160 Why Does This Magician Always Mess Up?
Chapter 206: Chapter 160 Why Does This Magician Always Mess Up?Beside the camera, the cameraman asked the director in a low voice, ”Are they being a bit noisy? Should we edit out their voices in post-production?”

”No need, just leave it as it is. This kind of reaction is very authentic. It indirectly shows that our show has no script, no shills, no editing,” the director said solemnly, watching the situation on stage. Even with his years of experience in show business, he had never seen a performance like this.

This unique performance effortlessly lifted the entire atmosphere of the venue, its ability to control the crowd was on par with, if not surpassing, an A-list star’s.

Terrifying.

”It... it disappeared?”

”Did it fall off the stage?”

”Did you see it drop?”

”Someone over there with thermal imaging saw the magician right behind the window!”

The stage was eerily silent, empty, while below it, the audience descended into a cacophony of noise.

This time around, the audience was a bit louder than before. News that Jiang Shu could be seen with prosthetic eye thermal imaging rapidly spread among the viewers.

To ensure the authenticity of the talk show, ”Bob’s Talk Show” was not recorded but broadcast live.

For the live show, there wasn’t much restriction on the audience’s prosthetic eyes’ recording capabilities; commercial use of the recorded footage on-site was simply prohibited.

Of the forty-something spectators in the audience, about thirty had prosthetic eyes, but only seven or eight had the thermal imaging feature.

The thermal imaging feature wasn’t highly valued in daily life, and the prosthetic eyes equipped with it were considered high-tech products. Therefore, ordinary people had no need to install such prosthetic eyes.

Among the seven or eight with thermal imaging prosthetic eyes, the imaging quality varied. The better ones could display Jiang Shu’s approximate appearance, while the lesser ones showed only blobs of different colors.

It was precisely because of this that the audience below was even more astonished – if the magician had simply escaped through a trap door or such, they would not be so agitated.

The situation now was obviously that the magician was still on the stage, but no one could see him unless they used special means.

Onstage, Jiang Shu did not stop his performance because of the audience’s exclamations. Behind the French windows, Jiang Shu’s figure quickly reappeared.

But now, he was no longer in the black suit from before. At some point, he had changed into a white robe with a red cloak draped over it.

A quintessential cinematic mage’s attire.

His face was calm as if nothing had happened, and in his hand, he still held the same drink.

The stage lights brightened, and Jiang Shu spoke his first line, ”Invisibility, much like flying, has been pursued by countless people throughout history.”

”Who among you would like to become invisible?” he threw out the question.

A wave of ”I do” and ”I’m willing” rippled through the audience.

”Wait, just a moment, I can grant your wish, provided that Police Chief Wolf doesn’t arrest me,” Jiang Shu said with a chuckle. He walked back to the long table, which now inexplicably had a small pot with a stand, as well as random utensils and potions laid out on it.

”Long, long ago, alchemists were inspired by chameleons. They extracted substances from them and concocted an invisibility potion,” Jiang Shu stated leisurely, his hands moving deftly as he poured the potion into the pot.

He opened his hand, and a flame appeared. Then, with a flick, the fire flew towards the bottom of the pot.

”Puff—”

A flame ignited beneath the little pot.

The perfectly ordinary action sparked another outburst from the crowd.

”It’s the fire control technique he performed last time!”

”He’s even linking it with this one; impressive!”

”I told you, he’s a magician.”

”The mystery of his magic is so simple. Look, he just moved his lips—he’s whispering spells secretly.”

With a slight gesture from Jiang Shu on stage, the previously vanished glass rod floated back into his hand. He took the rod and stirred the mixture in the pot.

Soon, he had conjured a strangely colored liquid.

Pouring the liquid into a test tube, Jiang Shu continued, ”Such a potion, brewed according to ancient alchemy, is said to render one invisible upon drinking.”

”But the actual effect of this method of invisibility is...” He paused, then pulled a mouse from under the long table, ”When you’re in a spirit form, naturally, no one can see you.”

”So, the core principle is simple, just die, and you’ll be permanently invisible,” Jiang Shu said, his tone casual as he delivered the dark humor, ”People are always making simple things complicated, and those alchemists were particularly good at it. So now, would anyone still like to try?”

Audience: ”...”

Suddenly, a wise guy’s voice emerged from the seats, ”I want to try!”

Jiang Shu: ”...”

But his expression remained unfazed, as if he had expected such a response. He smiled slightly, his eyes crinkling into a pleasing curve, ”You’re not worthy, pal.”

Immediately after, Jiang Shu took the mouse and fed it a bit of the potion from the test tube.

”Why poison such a cute mouse!”

”The mouse community is outraged!”
