The Daily Life Of A Cyberpunk Magician

Chapter 133 - 127: Isn’t It Just Coincidence?_2
Chapter 133: Chapter 127: Isn’t It Just Coincidence?_2Wolf sighed again, lacking much experience in handling such situations, ”The public sees them as executors of justice, and... the apprehension work is very unsuccessful. Not only has the police station received a lot of questions like ’Why help the scum’ and ’Deception Group simply did what you failed to achieve in terms of justice,’ but there are also many anonymous threats.”

”They’ve been swayed by the current.” Upon hearing this, Jiang Shu realized that the situation at the Seventh District Police Station might not be good.

Absolute justice is inherently difficult to achieve, and that’s not the fault of the police station, but now, with the Deception Group fanning the flames, this issue has been magnified in front of the public to no end.

The police station now is like being roasted on an open flame.

”Then calm the public’s anger.” Jiang Shu responded without a second thought, ”Either the police station treats the matter with less concern, or they sling some mud on the Deception Group to damage their public image. With the way things are now... even if the Deception Group is captured, there will be zealots who imitate their crimes or even attack the police station.”

”Sling mud?” Wolf was stunned.

”Yes, portray the Deception Group’s activities as driven by things like money, then expose some secrets that damage their image. Whether those secrets are fabricated or framed, it’s up to you,” Jiang Shu said without any burden.

”That... makes sense.” Wolf, although averse to such actions, was not too scrupulous.

”Yeah, the police station of Lonely City... shouldn’t be the embodiment of pure justice,” Jiang Shu hesitated, ”but should be the embodiment of order.”

”That said... you are not wrong.” Wolf pondered Jiang Shu’s words for a moment without objection.

To be honest, the him who had just graduated from the police academy years ago might have spoken of justice, but over the years, he had come to understand that disordered justice is more terrifying than orderly evil.

”Besides the Deception Group, is there anything else?” Jiang Shu then asked.

”Anything else?” As Wolf recalled, suddenly something came to mind, and he began, ”Right, there’s also about you. The magic you performed before... there’s quite a controversy, many people are doubting your real identity.”

”Uh.” Jiang Shu scratched his head, ”I remember having shown my Mysterious Coefficient.”

”That’s no good, there will always be an audience for conspiracy theories.” Wolf also felt helpless, ”Anyway, it’s quite noisy, some people came to the police station asking us to arrest you, the Wizard, some regard you as the Kami of the new world, and others link you with the Deception Group’s crimes, so convincingly that if I didn’t know you were locked up in jail, I would have believed it.”

”Other than that, I haven’t paid much attention. Anyway... with your rather unplanned disappearance from the public eye, your popularity has only skyrocketed instead,” Wolf said, as he activated the holographic screen on his wristwatch, showing it to Jiang Shu.

Following Wolf’s finger sliding across the screen, Jiang Shu saw that online he was either deified or demonized, with extremely polarized comments; in any case, no one believed he was just an ordinary Entertainment Series T4 Magician.

Why couldn’t anyone believe in science? It’s not like he did anything...

However, Jiang Shu thought carefully and realized that this was quite normal.

The most eye-catching things online would never be the moderate comments.

Jiang Shu searched for the expose of the ”Flame Spirit” magic; there were not many related videos, and the few that existed were either clickbait or reveals that didn’t hit the mark.

”Right, speaking of which, aren’t you about to rise to T3? Although I don’t quite understand how your Entertainment Series levels up, but...” Wolf mused, ”Your skills shouldn’t be a problem, and with your popularity now, it should be about time for a promotion.”

”Promotion... is it still going to the place of awakening?” Jiang Shu asked curiously, ”How can you tell if you are about to be promoted?”

On this matter, Jiang Shu was quite laid back; he always felt that these gradient levels were of little use to him; he was not the kind of web novel protagonist that spiraled upward in levels. What use were gradients?

Shen Xuwan, at T1, wasn’t she still working under him?

And moreover, he had only received his Character Card less than a month ago. Could promotions come this quickly?

”It’s a bit hard to calculate; the conversion values for different entry values are not the same,” Wolf explained, ”But it generally goes in the order of white, blue, purple, and gold, from low to high. Even though the entry values within the same color can be different, a white one will never surpass a blue one; the basic rule is like that.”

”This entry value, isn’t it displayed on the Character Card?” Jiang Shu found this strange because he had never seen such a thing.

”It is displayed. What, isn’t yours?” A look of surprise crossed Wolf’s face, ”Isn’t there a little exclamation mark next to the gradient level that you click on to see it?”

Jiang Shu recalled and shook his head, ”I don’t have it, I’ve never seen it.”

As someone who would even glance at the user privacy terms when opening an app, he was quite sure he had never seen it.

He was the kind of person who, if there was an interactive button, would want to see what it was. If there really was an exclamation mark, he wouldn’t have missed it.

”That is quite strange,” Wolf searched his mind for relevant information but found nothing of use, ”Never mind, you can ask Kirie about it when the time comes. There’s not much information about the Character Card online, and not many people know about it.”
