The Daily Life Of A Cyberpunk Magician

Chapter 111 - 112: Good Citizen
Chapter 111: Chapter 112: Good CitizenAt 6:30, all the prisoners on the second underground level gathered on the ground parade ground, where the duty warden gave a morning speech. After the speech, breakfast was served in the cafeteria.

At 7:20, over two hundred B-level prisoners entered the ground-level subcontracting factory for work. This week’s task was processing standard tires.

In Lonely City, such simple subcontracting products were mostly operated by automated machinery, but this was not the case in the prison.

The energetic male prisoners needed something to vent their energy on; otherwise, it was easy for violent incidents to occur.

Moreover, completely free labor should not be wasted.

In the subcontracting factory, they worked in pairs.

At Clo’s request, he, a skilled veteran, guided Jiang Shu in the labor.

”What should I do?” Jiang Shu stood in front of the assembly line machine, looking at Clo and then at the box of raw materials at his feet.

”You don’t need to do anything.” Clo picked up a piece of raw material and started to operate the machine. He was visibly adept at the process, his movements dazzling.

”That’s not good,” Jiang Shu frowned, shook his head, and then silently stepped back two paces with his hands behind his back.

”My efficiency alone is 2.5, but with you, it might only be 1.5,” Clo replied leisurely.

”Oh.” Jiang Shu no longer insisted and simply sat on a nearby wooden box, watching Clo assemble the tires. He asked, ”Where did you go yesterday, and what did you find?”

”I found some old friends,” Clo responded casually. ”During those years I spent on the third underground level, many prisoners were taken away and never came back. I guess they were taken for experiments, because they were...”

He struggled with his choice of words, ”really quite strange.”

”Strange? How so?” Jiang Shu asked, puzzled.

”It’s like... genetic mutations? Or some other factor, but definitely not normal people. They were all victims of previous genetic experiments,” Clo said, adding, ”And some were originally mutants, with high research value.”

”Mutants?” Jiang Shu blinked, almost forgetting that Lonely City had such a setting if Clo hadn’t mentioned it.

”Yes, intelligent mutants,” Clo continued his work unaffected while chatting, ”They look almost human, but have some very odd entries... emmm, quite interesting.”

Jiang Shu remembered Wolf mentioning these mutants, clearly more formidable than those mindless killing-machine mutants he had encountered before.

”Have you seen those mutants?” he asked again, ”What are they like?”

”Of course, we’re friends,” Clo shrugged, ”It’s just that I rarely get the chance to see them. Every time I do, I get beaten up by the prison guards.”

”Hisss—” he smacked his lips, seemingly recalling the sensation, then grew serious, ”One day, I’m going to shove those guards’ heads up their asses, since their brains are just for show.”

”Uh... What experiments are they conducting?” Jiang Shu tried to steer the conversation back.

”Just studying some genes, sequences, mutants, that kind of stuff,” Clo pondered, ”I sneaked a look at some records, some of the research... not bad.”

”Like what?”

”Like the parts related to the mutants.” Clo glanced around to make sure no guards were nearby before beckoning Jiang Shu closer.

Jiang Shu leaned in, ears perked.

”The female mutants are all super beauties!” Clo whispered very quietly, his face full of mystery as if he was revealing a breathtaking secret.

Jiang Shu: ”...”

”Haha.” Clo laughed as if his prank had succeeded, continuing, ”They found similar genes in the bodies of those intelligent mutants.”

”Similar genes? What does that mean? All the mutants are born from the same mother?” This information shocked Jiang Shu deeply.

Clo: ”One mother giving birth to tens of thousands? Of course, that’s not what I meant.”

”Rather, it’s a gene that distinguishes them from the common human.” He continued, and then, with a burst of enthusiasm, asked Jiang Shu, ”What if there were a type of mutant who looked like humans, had intelligence like humans, reproductive isolation... um, I haven’t tried that yet, but essentially, they are just like humans in every aspect.”

He went on, ”Then are they still mutants? Could this thing... be a lie from Lonely City?”

”It’s possible.” Jiang Shu was somewhat convinced.

Unlike Wolf, the setup of Lonely City had not sunk deep into his heart, so he had the basis to doubt everything.

”However, those truly monstrous mutants... what those big shots said wasn’t wrong.” Clo looked somewhat disappointed, ”It indeed resulted from randomly generated entries. I’ve tried it.”

”Tried?” Jiang Shu looked at him and subtly stepped back.

”Of course, I didn’t try it on myself... no, that’s incorrect, I did try it myself,” Clo corrected, ”But my profession had long been a Wanderer; of course, I wouldn’t turn into a mutant.”

”Uh...” Jiang Shu didn’t quite know how to judge the person in front of him, who was both righteous and evil, both mature and naive.

He looked at the little white Ya on Clo’s chest, whose eyes were black, indicating that Clo was currently in an easy-to-communicate state.

He had noticed this phenomenon long ago.

Black eyes, mature, rigorous, gentle, clear logic, just like a true teacher; red eyes, chaotic, whimsical, unpredictable, disorganized in reasoning, and also very keen on performing.

Therefore, while Clo was still reasonable, he should extract more information.

”What... do you want to do?” Jiang Shu asked directly.

Clo had done a lot, these actions, these thoughts seemed disorderly, but Jiang Shu understood there must be some logic in there.

Because the black-eyed Clo under the Ya was a man of clear logic, he knew exactly what he was doing and what he wanted to do.

Moreover, in just one day, Jiang Shu had noticed that the black eyes were Clo’s dominant personality, making most decisions, while the red eyes...

Just occasionally came out to stir things up.

”I want...” Clo’s face showed a defiant smile, and his Ya still had black eyes, he continued, ”to destroy the current Lonely City.”

”Destroy?” Jiang Shu shrugged his shoulders, not feeling very hostile towards his idea, ”For this so-called fairness of knowledge?”

”Not just knowledge, but a lot more...” Clo pondered, ”The current Lonely City is stagnant, I want to Change it.”

”Just by yourself?” Jiang Shu reflexively questioned but then affirmed, ”Yeah, just by yourself.”

”Not just by myself.” Clo countered, ”I need your help.”

”Me? What help can a Magician like me offer?” Jiang Shu shook his head, not feeling like he could be of much help.

”You’re different, you’re the most unique individual in this city,” Clo intently stared at him with penetrating eyes, making Jiang Shu nervous.

”What do you mean?” Jiang Shu didn’t know whether Clo knew or how much he knew.

”You are a Magician, the best at deception,” Clo said, his eyes intense, ”I need you.”

”Performance and crime are two different things,” Jiang Shu retorted, dismissively, ”I’m a respectable citizen, don’t think about corrupting me.”

Clo quickly followed up: ”And most importantly, it doesn’t understand you.”

”Who?”

”Main Brain, it doesn’t understand you, it doesn’t grasp your profession and role.”
