The Daily Life Of A Cyberpunk Magician

Chapter 115 - 116: Trolley Problem (Going Live Tomorrow, Request for Support!!!)
Chapter 115: Chapter 116: Trolley Problem (Going Live Tomorrow, Request for Support!!!)Having received answers to several questions, Jiang Shu thanked and left contentedly, and by the way, he also left behind a pack of cigarettes and matches he got from Sister Liu, as a consultation fee.

This was merely the beginning. Concerning Lonely City, he had many more questions to ask, and most crucially, Jiang Shu wanted to know how Duan Xun got in.

As a ten-year player here, Clo knew the details of most A-level inmates and almost all B-level inmates, but Duan Xun was that special existence, even Clo didn’t know about.

Rumor had it, this ruthless character managed to offend the Three Major Groups all at once and was thrown directly into the Special Prison. However, there was something strange—why wasn’t he dealt with outright?

---

Deep into the night.

Jiang Shu crawled out of bed, and looking over to the bunk next to his, Clo was also sitting up, his eyes shining in the darkness.

”Let’s go,” said Clo.

Jiang Shu then asked, ”What else do you need to do there?”

Clo’s answer was rather perfunctory, ”I need to verify something.”

”What is it?” Jiang Shu asked subconsciously, not wanting to miss any chance to get information from Clo.

”When I’m sure, I’ll tell you. After all, this matter...” Clo hesitated for a moment and then shook his head, ”is indeed quite scandalous.”

”Fine.” Since that was the case, Jiang Shu didn’t pursue further. He glanced at the surveillance camera overhead.

”I’ve taken care of it, don’t worry,” Clo said, ”I report to the prison chief every day, so I have many opportunities to interact with the prison guards and the control room.”

Clo added softly, ”I also know a little about hacking.”

”Right.” Jiang Shu understood, but still found it odd.

Was it really that easy? The same trick twice? Were the prison guards here really that... irresponsible?

However, he didn’t dwell on it. With Sister Liu covering him, he didn’t have to worry about being double-crossed.

Jiang Shu simply flipped two white lab coats from under the bed, picked one, and tossed it to Clo, ”Change near the elevator.”

”Huh?” Clo looked puzzled.

”We have someone to meet us,” Jiang Shu replied. Yesterday, Sister Liu had handed him the card, but after he slept for about half an hour, she seemed to remember something and took the card back.

—Meet me at midnight in the junk room on the second basement floor, and change clothes.

That’s what Sister Liu told him last night.

”Why give me this one? I saw you choose,” Clo’s focus seemed a bit peculiar.

”No reason.” Jiang Shu smirked and didn’t bother with him further, simply putting on his own lab coat.

A joke, this one was worn by Sister Liu, still with the familiar scent of laundry detergent, how could he possibly let you wear it?

”Oh.” Clo replied, disappointed, and also changed into the lab coat.

The two exchanged a glance and, without a word, moved to the iron door. Clo repeated his old trick, opening the bedroom door and leading the way out stealthily.

With the previous experience, the two of them progressed more familiarly this time and quickly found the junk room near the elevator corner.

Jiang Shu gently pushed open the door. In the cluttered little room, Liu Tingruo was wearing a loose lab coat, her hands in her pockets, coldly watching the projection cast upon the wall by Xiao Ba.

Hmm, she was also sucking on a lollipop.

Sister Liu still looked standoffish, but Jiang Shu inexplicably found her quite adorable.

”You’re ten minutes late,” Liu Tingruo said indifferently, her gaze focusing on Clo. She didn’t like him because she had pulled his files.

He was too smart, and paranoid.

But it seemed, Jiang Shu got along with him quite well.

”Get on,” Liu Tingruo pushed a medical transport cart out of the junk room, directed at Clo, ”We’ll push you over.”

Clo didn’t say a word and just lay down, covering himself with the white sheet, making him look like a corpse.

”Let’s go.” Liu Tingruo slipped her hand back into her pocket and walked out of the storeroom. As she passed by Jiang Shu, the tip of her nose moved ever so slightly, as if she were sniffing something.

Then, she tilted her chin up slightly, revealing the beautiful curve of her delicate face.

Jiang Shu, who knew Liu Tingruo well, was very clear that her mood was quite good.

Jiang Shu pushed the transport cart, following behind Liu Tingruo with his head slightly bowed as they made their way toward the elevator.

The prison guards stationed at the elevator had been replaced by two new guards, and in addition to the two men, there was now a dumb-looking android-like robot.

If Alpha, Beta, Gamma, and Delta were here, they would probably bully it mercilessly.

These four silicon-based beings always took pleasure in humiliating and enslaving their kind.

Jiang Shu criticized them in his mind as he stepped into the elevator.

Liu Tingruo pressed the button for the fourth basement level, and the elevator descended slowly and steadily.

”Ding—” The elevator doors opened. Liu Tingruo reached out to push the transport cart, which squeaked out of the elevator, and then she closed the elevator doors.

Clo blinked from within the sheet, question marks sprouting fresh on his forehead.

”You...” Jiang Shu was equally puzzled.

”Walk with me,” said Liu Tingruo indifferently, pressing the button for the third floor above ground.

Jiang Shu’s tone was full of resignation. ”Sis, I’m in jail, you know.”

”Does that matter?” Liu Tingruo glanced at him. ”Don’t tell me you’re scared.”

”Ah...” Jiang Shu sighed, then nodded his head.

While he protested with his mouth, his body agreed.

The elevator reached the third floor above ground, an area where the prison guards and warden’s offices were located. It was already after hours, hence the corridor outside was pitch black.

Liu Tingruo stepped towards the darkness, and Jiang Shu followed suit. They climbed up half a floor of stairs and entered the rooftop.

The night air on the rooftop was refreshing, clearing Jiang Shu’s mind of the drowsiness left in his head from the late night.

The Special Prison was located in the suburbs of Thirteen District, extremely secluded. The nearest lights were at the edge of sight, making Jiang Shu feel like the stars above were the closest sources of light to him.

So, as he sat down on the rooftop, the mundane world felt infinitely distant.

”Tscht—”

Liu Tingruo opened a can of beer. She didn’t prepare one for Jiang Shu because she knew he didn’t drink.

”You’re troubled,” Jiang Shu observed her flawlessly sculpted profile, feeling that he was once again instantly killed by it.

”Mm, adults should have their worries,” Liu Tingruo took a small sip of her beer.

”Speak up, I’m listening,” encouraged Jiang Shu, all ears.

”It’s a simple question, but it’s been troubling me for a long time.” Liu Tingruo casually brushed the hair away from her ear, tucking it behind as she moved with an elegance she hadn’t shown before.

She sighed, ”The trolley problem... I always thought it was a joke, never expected it to happen to me.”

”Uh, does that mean you’re drunk-driving right now?” Jiang Shu seriously raised his own viewpoint.

Liu Tingruo: ”...You’re sick.”

”Tell me more, you’ve never shared your troubles with me.” Jiang Shu looked up at the stars; even their faint light held beauty. ”Picking me up and bringing me home was entirely out of greed for my beauty... my talent.”

”And then disappearing off the face of the Earth. Such an irresponsible jerk,” Jiang Shu sighed, casting a careful glance at Liu Tingruo from the corner of his eye.

Flushed with an embarrassed red, Liu Tingruo’s face was a mix of hesitation and stops and starts, struggling to articulate her words.

Liu Tingruo lost her composure, which was really interesting.

Jiang Shu chuckled secretly to himself.
