The Daily Life Of A Cyberpunk Magician

Chapter 129 - 124 Blindfolded, Peace and Prosperity through Song and Dance
Chapter 129: Chapter 124 Blindfolded, Peace and Prosperity through Song and DanceAfter returning to the checkpoint, Jiang Shu found that the nearby surveillance had already been disabled by the two prison guards, and he had not been recorded.

After repeated hypnotic suggestions, he planted the memory in the prison guards’ minds that ”Clo took him hostage, and the prison guards let Clo escape in an attempt to save him.”

This was also a fairly credible story. As for the other suspicions, such as the Fish Mother and the fleet of vehicles, those were left for the prison warden to worry about.

At the same time, Jiang Shu also successfully obtained the large sum of money that Clo had used to bribe them.

Although the money was very important in their subconscious minds, with his persuasion and the threat of imprisonment and sentencing, they obediently handed over the money.

Then it was back to the Special Prison.

That night, after a series of investigations and verifications, Jiang Shu received verbal praise from the prison warden for his good attitude, and at the same time, the two prison guards who had assisted in the escape were not suspected.

This also confirmed something for Jiang Shu: the prison warden really wasn’t there on the weekends. Such a serious incident occurred, and he only returned that evening.

Initially, Jiang Shu thought the prison warden was on the fourth underground level, but clearly, the Fish Mother couldn’t have escaped right under his nose.

So, did the prison warden leave the Special Prison every weekend?

Jiang Shu quietly noted this point.

Following that, the warden sent the relevant files to the Thirteen District Police Station, which issued the warrant and handled the follow-up pursuit.

Of course, all of this was no longer Jiang Shu’s concern.

He returned to his quarters, looking at the spacious room and the lonely bed, with that song echoing incessantly in his mind.

How absurd.

However, fortunately, Jiang Shu had gone through Clo’s possessions before the prison guards cleaned them out, and he left behind some of the things from Clo’s bedside drawer.

A few books with his notes and some gadgets he made himself.

Jiang Shu decided to thoroughly read these books in the next few days. Aside from the science-related books, if he found something he didn’t understand, he would go ask. There really was no better place to learn than the Special Prison.

In the future, if he had a son who didn’t like studying, he’d throw him into the Special Prison—every inmate here was talented and eloquent.

After mixing here for five years, Clo had become knowledgeable in many fields. If his son spent ten years experiencing life here, he would come out either a genius or a madman...

Cough cough, better not. His sister would kill him.

Today was August 12, and thanks to getting to know those two prison guards, Jiang Shu easily obtained the right to appeal. He filled out the appeal form and handed it over to the prison guards. On Wednesday, August 15, he would face judicial review.

Three days was enough time for him to do the things he wanted to do.

He yawned and lay down on the bed, falling into a deep sleep.

---

Dinner time.

”Bang bang bang—” A prison guard banged his baton on the iron door of the cell, then shouted, his voice echoing down the corridor, ”Dinner time.”

Jiang Shu pushed open the door and followed the crowd to the dining hall.

”Mr. Jiang, you... Did Clo really escape?” Someone noticed him, came up to ask, and more people looked over, silently perking up their ears to listen.

”Yes,” Jiang Shu nodded.

”Why didn’t you go with him? Didn’t he take you?” the person continued to inquire, not fully aware of the situation.

”Hmm, it’s easier for one person to escape unnoticed, so he went by himself,” Jiang Shu said, not wanting to disclose too much. ”Let’s just hope he doesn’t get caught.”

”God bless him!” A few chuckles rose from the crowd.

”But if he gets caught, I guess he’ll be upgraded to the next level,” Jiang Shu added, shrugging his shoulders and naturally changing the subject.

In the cafeteria, Jiang Shu quickly finished his meal, placed his tray in the recycle bin, and walked towards the history scholar Duan Xun. Today, he planned to ask some new questions.

After reading those tangible history books, he always felt that some logic was off, and it was very likely that they had been tampered with by the Three Major Groups.

The most fundamental differences in this world were due to the Main Brain, Character Cards, and Mutants, and these three things were completely unrecorded in history books or scarcely found on the internet.

”Duan Xun, I’ve got a few questions to ask,” Jiang Shu said, sitting across from Duan Xun.

”No problem, go ahead,” Duan Xun replied with a friendly smile.

”I want to know...when did the Main Brain start existing in Lonely City?” Jiang Shu asked.

”The Main Brain?” Duan Xun thought for a moment, ”That’s a very old story. After the rebuilding of Lonely City, the Main Brain existed as the central hub of the city.”

”And the Character Cards?”

”They’ve been around even longer, since ancient times.”

”So why are the Character Cards distributed by the Main Brain? How did they appear before that? What was the promotion ceremony for Character Cards like? Were there Mutants in ancient times? How did they deal with Mutants back then?” Jiang Shu rapidly fired off a bunch of questions, troubled by these established concepts for a long time.

”Wait, wait, one at a time,” Duan Xun gestured with his hand, ”The Main Brain is just a form. In ancient times, it was called something else, and Character Cards were displayed through a special Card trait.”

”Hmm...” Jiang Shu frowned slightly.

”There were promotion ceremonies in ancient times, too, but there have been historical disruptions in Lonely City and a lot of information has been lost. We only know that a small amount of Black Silver was needed for the ceremonies then,” Duan Xun continued.

”Black Silver? Isn’t Black Silver impossible to collect by human means?” Jiang Shu questioned, puzzled.

Duan Xun chuckled, ”To be precise, it was a derivative of Black Silver that was used, which didn’t pose any problems as long as you were aiming for that derivative.”

”Okay,” Jiang Shu nodded, seemingly having realized something.

Historical disruptions, huh?

”Then I have one last question to ask you,” Jiang Shu continued, ”About the overview of Lonely City’s history, those three books in the reading room...they seem to have quite a few discrepancies between them. And I saw that, Mr. Duan, you appear to be on the editorial team for this book.”

”It might be inappropriate, but...were you imprisoned for editing this book?” Jiang Shu finally asked the question. He knew it was impolite, but in the face of the truth, he felt it didn’t matter.

However, at this question, Duan Xun’s gaze suddenly changed, becoming extremely horrific. He stared blankly at the table, his mutterings resembling the murmurings from the edge of nightmares.

”No, no...” he acted as if possessed, clutching his head, fingers deeply burrowed into his hair, knuckles pressed hard against his scalp, ”This isn’t my fault, I didn’t mean to deceive you all, they forced me...”

”Calm down, Mr. Duan, please calm down!” Jiang Shu quickly grasped his shoulders, trying to soothe him.

Yet, Duan Xun, possessed with a furious strength, easily broke free and continued to shout, ”It’s not my fault, why, why did they make me see...”

”See what? What did you deceive us about?” Jiang Shu held on to him, desperately wanting to learn the truth from him.

”History...history!” Duan Xun looked at him, speaking in halting tones, then suddenly screaming, turned to flee, only to crash into someone’s dining table, overturning the plates and spattering himself with soup, dirtying his appearance.

”Don’t come near!” Duan Xun lost all the scholarly refinement he usually had, as he ran towards the door of the cafeteria. But soon enough, the prison guards, who had been alerted, took him away.

Madman...

Jiang Shu watched as Duan Xun was led away, his brow furrowed in deep thought.

In the cafeteria, the prisoners continued their lively discussions, people sang and danced at the tables, unconcerned by the recent madness. Only the person whose meal had been knocked over was left to clean his clothes, cursing under his breath.

Jiang Shu shook his head, unsure whether it was only those seeking the truth who were mad, or if only a madman could glimpse the truth.

People blinded, living in merriment within the walls of the enclosed city.
