The Daily Life Of A Cyberpunk Magician

Chapter 100 - 101 The Daily Life of an Ordinary Giant Panda
Chapter 100: Chapter 101 The Daily Life of an Ordinary Giant PandaJiang Shu discovered something, something quite serious.

He seemed to be of no use.

With his overt strength, it seemed completely unnecessary for him to join the battle.

The Tablet Spirit, Xiaoding, could be sent out, but there really wasn’t any need, after all, those carrying out the purging mission at night were all from Seal Security Company.

Since they weren’t good people either, let them fight it out; he just needed to personally witness the demolition of the Mechanical Disciples and try to understand the truth behind Ya.

Could he slack off again?

Jiang Shu’s eyes lit up.

Inside the elevator, Garcia turned to Wolf and said with a smile, ”So, Police Chief Wolf, may I make another request?”

”Speak,” Wolf replied coldly. He was communicating with Tang Hexun through his prosthetic eye, and the recent decision was naturally not made by him.

He wasn’t from Thirteen District Police Station, and no matter how good their personal relationship was, he couldn’t make such a decision for Tang Hexun.

Tang Hexun thought the same as Wolf; although they both thought Seal was not much better than the Mechanical Disciples, and even harder to deal with, because Seal’s dominion over the underworld was more subdued and pervasive.

Seal’s rule relied on interests; he used incentives to tie all his subordinates and affiliates together, also interlinking their hearts so that at the necessary moment, he could command drug lords to meet their death with just a word.

Such a man was far more dangerous than the lunatics of the Mechanical Disciples.

One could imagine that if he were allowed to continue to grow, his power would soon become an ineradicable cancer in District F.

However, for now, he indeed had done the police a big favor.

As for what would come after, that was a matter for later. In any case, he wasn’t going to let Seal flap about for too long.

”What I mean is, for the purging operation tonight, a disabled person like me shouldn’t have to join the battle,” Garcia drawled.

”What do you mean?” Wolf inquired, looking at him.

Garcia continued, ”Today is Wednesday, and by tradition, tonight there is a... staff party, of course, not including the security company’s staff. My meaning is, could we invite this Mr. Jiang to attend the party?”

”Eh?” Jiang Shu was taken aback, not knowing why he was being brought into this; he was clearly inconspicuous.

”Oh don’t worry, I have absolutely no ill intentions,” Garcia quickly continued, ”This is just... an invitation, symbolizing the sincerity of our cooperation.”

Sincerity.

Jiang Shu understood Garcia’s insinuation; it was just the worry that the police might play them, using him as a Proton.

Danger wouldn’t necessarily be present; Garcia was a smart man. Once at his place, Jiang Shu would certainly be protected like a giant panda.

If anything happened to him, none of those present would escape unscathed.

However, whether someone would mingle at the party and make a move against him to provoke conflict, that was uncertain.

Garcia would probably think of this as well, and the party at night would likely be carefully guarded. Moreover, with his trump card to return to the city, as long as he didn’t eat anything carelessly, assassination would be difficult.

Furthermore, he had the help of Portcas D. Jiang Xiaoding.

”As for sincerity, my presence should suffice,” Gary spoke calmly, ”Just so happens, I’m also interested in this party you speak of.”

”This... might not be appropriate?” Garcia gauged Gary up and down, ”Mr. Gary is likely one of the police’s strong combat forces, isn’t he? At such a crucial time, I feel it might be better not to occupy Mr. Gary’s time.”

Jiang Shu nodded in agreement, so they just thought he was both useless and important?

”Okay.” He nodded in agreement and looked at Wolf, reassuring him, ”It’s fine, it’s just attending a party.”

Moreover, his professional identity was not a member of the police force, so it wouldn’t have any adverse impact.

”Be careful then,” Wolf said, seeing his determination and not objecting further, ”This is what I’ll do, I’ll assign a trusted officer from my own team to follow you.”

”No, no need for that,” Jiang Shu shook his head incessantly, not wanting anyone following him; with someone tailing him, he wouldn’t be able to teleport back to safety in case of danger.

”Really?” Wolf looked at Jiang Shu with a touch of suspicion.

”Really, no need,” Jiang Shu affirmed confidently, ”Don’t waste police resources to protect me. I think Mr. Garcia can ensure my safety.”

”Of course, I can,” Garcia replied with a polite smile, ”It’s an honor for Mr. Jiang to visit us. Trust me, it will be an unforgettable night.”

Wolf understood then, indeed, he only trusted officers from the Seventh District and could only have Seventh District officers accompany Jiang Shu. If the news about Jiang Shu visiting a nightclub got back to the station, there would undoubtedly be trouble.

It’s just like Jiang Shu to think of things I hadn’t even considered.

”Ding—”

The elevator reached the basement level, the doors opened, and there stood Garcia’s driver already waiting. Garcia waved goodbye to the three of them, ”Then, it’s a pleasure working with you, Police Chief Wolf, and Mr. Gary. See you tonight, Mr. Jiang.”

”Mm.”

”Pleasure working with you.”

”See you tonight.”

The three men responded one by one, then headed to their cars.

”Let’s head back to the station. The Seventh District support squad has arrived; we might as well have dinner together,” Wolf suggested, ”You should join us, Gary.”

”Alright,” Gary accepted without rejection.

—

At 7:10 PM, Jiang Shu took a cab to the Queen Club.

”It really is luxurious,” he murmured, looking at the imposing and glittering building before him.

Looking at the four Tablet Spirits beside him, filled with starry-eyed wonder, their camera foreheads extending way out, they all seemed to be yearning for a decadent lifestyle.

Alpha Beta Gamma Ding: Hurry up, hurry up!

”Jeez, wonder who taught them that,” Jiang Shu muttered, rolling his eyes as he approached the entrance of the Queen Club.

The Queen Club, founded by Seal Garcia, was a bona fide pleasure palace, operating under an elite membership system. Those who qualified as members were influential figures from both the underworld and mainstream society.

There were glass doors framed with gold and silver, yet no doormen—only two marble columns about half a person’s height with black crystal spheres on the tops.

Before Jiang Shu, two men in black suits chatted and, as they passed by the columns, they nodded slightly towards the crystal sphere, which then gleamed softly, and the glass doors slid open to reveal a corridor.

Jiang Shu and the Tablet Spirits exchanged glances—well, eight glances, as little Beta was on the ground unable to meet eyes—and then walked forward to nod at the crystal sphere.

The glass doors opened likewise.

”Have I already entered my facial information?” Jiang Shu pondered as he walked down the corridor.

Passing through a short passageway, he was greeted by an extravagant hall; a welcome girl with a flickering blue light in her left eye approached smilingly, ”Mr. Jiang, I presume? Please follow me, Mr. Garcia is waiting for you.”

”Mm.” Jiang Shu’s expression remained neutral, perfectly at ease in such a setting, unlike a certain four, who clicked away taking pictures of the line of welcoming ladies.

Heh, how vulgar. It’s just high-slit qipao dresses. I’ll let you wear some from Sister Ruo back home—if you can convince her, I’ll treat you to Nanfu batteries.

Five minutes later.

Jiang Shu truly realized he was indeed being treated like a giant panda.

Indeed, because like a panda’s mating arrangements, his was also planned.
