The Daily Life Of A Cyberpunk Magician

Chapter 97 - 98 Ya and the Disciple
Chapter 97: Chapter 98 Ya and the DiscipleWolf and Jiang Shu’s official reason for coming to the Thirteen District this time was inter-district police assistance. Besides the two of them, there were three or four veteran officers en route.

The Thirteen District had many lingering issues, and the Mechanical Disciples were particularly intractable.

Because of limited police resources, in order to eradicate the Mechanical Disciples while maintaining basic public security needs, it was inevitable to request reinforcements from the police in the neighboring Seventh District.

Of course, the police force was not meant to confront the Mechanical Disciples directly, their main responsibility was to investigate cases, locate each hideout of the Mechanical Disciples, and then dispatch the Violent Terror Mobile Team to carry out eradication operations.

So, the task of Wolf and Jiang Shu, along with other external assistance, was not particularly heavy.

”This is most of the archive material on the Mechanical Disciples.” Once Wolf and Jiang Shu were in Gary’s car, Gary took out a paper file bag from under the car seat and handed it to Wolf and Jiang Shu sitting in the back, ”Top-secret files, do not disclose.”

Jiang Shu gazed at Gary through the rearview mirror, their eyes meeting in the reflection.

”What’s up?” Gary was a bit puzzled.

”Nothing much.” Jiang Shu smiled and began flipping through the pile of documents Wolf had passed over.

It seemed that Gary had already accepted himself as part of the police, and by default, believed he had the right to look through the confidential files.

He looked at the first page of the document, his facial expression instantly stiffening.

The Mechanical Disciples, founded by ”Ya,” were fanatics of mechanics, pursuing extremism, and had planned multiple demonstrative terrorist events that had a very negative impact.

Ya, age unknown, Character Card profession listed as Wanderer, no mechanical components found inside his body, possessed a high IQ and anti-social personality, charged with ”establishing illegal organizations,” ”planning terrorist activities” among others, was arrested and imprisoned five years ago with a life sentence.

In the center of the first page was an incarceration photo of Ya, wearing a prison uniform, standing in front of a backdrop, making faces at the camera, looking extremely jovial, without a trace of worry.

Ya looked quite young, with a high nose bridge, deep-set eyes, distinct facial features, a typical Western face.

Just like the person Jiang Shu had seen in his dream.

He suddenly understood, and because he understood, he broke out in a cold sweat.

Ya had always known he would appear in this world, so he had prepared an undercover agent in advance at the Seventh District Police Station.

According to that dream, he was also supposed to be incarcerated during this time, meeting Ya, but his fate changed due to Sister Ruo’s appearance.

So, Ya had taken unconventional measures, trying to force a meeting through crimes such as kidnapping.

”This founder of the Mechanical Disciples, Ya, where is he imprisoned now?” Jiang Shu asked. This information was not written in the file.

”Special Prison for Criminals, Special Prison, it’s located in the Seventh District,” Gary replied, ”This prison is somewhat unique, so it’s not written in the file.”

”Unique?” Jiang Shu didn’t understand.

”All inmates have committed particular types of crimes.” Gary thought for a moment, ”The conditions for imprisonment are quite stringent; most of them are special criminals with a significant societal threat.”

”Hmm.” Jiang Shu nodded.

Clearly, the simple murder he had committed in his dream wasn’t enough to land him in a high-security prison like the Special Prison. There must have been some manipulation behind the scenes.

”Twelve Disciples in total, and with one already dead, that leaves eleven. This says that each Disciple has their base and organizational form, so does that mean we need to take down eleven bases?” Wolf skimmed over the Mechanical Disciples’ information.

”More or less.” Gary responded, ”They are spread out across DEF, three areas in the Thirteen District. It’ll take some effort to eradicate them completely.”

He continued, ”Moreover, they were probably prepared. In the past month, they haven’t shown themselves much, hiding in these three districts.”

”Understood,” Wolf smiled. ”Eleven Disciple Leaders, hundreds of disciples, and quite a few peripheral members, they can’t hide forever. People need to eat and drink, as long as they are still in society, they will leave traces.”

”Our Police Chief thinks the same,” Gary said. ”We just got full support from above. It’s time to bring out the covert operatives we’ve placed earlier and eliminate them all at once.”

”Let’s hope so,” Jiang Shu agreed, having finished reviewing all the data and having Xiao Jia record it.

He asked, ”Can we visit the Special Prison?”

”It’s possible, but the approval process is cumbersome,” Gary said, looking at him in the mirror. ”You want to see Ya? He’s been locked up for five years now, and he’s likely lost control of the Mechanized Disciples. Questioning him won’t reveal much.”

”Okay then,” Jiang Shu didn’t say much else.

Losing control meant that within two years of imprisonment, he was still able to instruct his Mechanized Disciples to painstakingly plant an insignificant spy in the distant Seventh District Police Station.

And this spy’s role exploded into significance three years later.

Jiang Shu leaned back in the rear seat, his hand placed by the door, knuckles rhythmically tapping on the hard plastic armrest.

When thinking, Jiang Shu had a habit of doing this, creating a regular sound in his quiet world, which helped him to get into the zone.

So, the purpose of coming to Thirteen District was now twofold, to clear up Ya’s matter and to find out exactly how much he knew about himself.

Whether it was the Mysterious powers of the world itself at work, or some other factor, he would figure it out.

If it really came down to it, killing Ya wasn’t out of the question.

The records showed that Ya didn’t have any mechanical components installed, not even a Prosthetic Eye, yet such a person had established the organization of Mechanized Disciples, filled with mechanical fanatics.

Ha, interesting.

——

In the darkness of an abandoned factory, four figures in masks sat around a conference table, each with a distinct silhouette.

The fox sat primly at the table, appearing exceedingly docile; Devil Wind lounged casually in his chair; Mu Jin examined the length of her nails; Ancient Snake propped his head with a hand, deep in thought.

It was rare for the four members of the Deception Group to be gathered together.

”So, what’s the reason for calling us here?” Mu Jin lifted her eyes, shifting her gaze from her fingers to the Fox.

”There are some big events coming up,” the Fox smiled. ”We promised to benefit the people of Lonely City, we can’t deceive the public, right? Besides, we haven’t appeared before them in a long time.”

”Oh? Aren’t you afraid that... the Magician will come and mess things up again?” Mu Jin’s eyes moved back to her nails.

”He... well,” the Fox thought for a moment. ”Don’t worry about him. The Magician has gone to the Thirteenth District and won’t be back for a while.”

”Are you afraid of him?” Ancient Snake’s voice was magnetic. ”If it comes to it, just kill him.”

”No,” the Fox shook his head. ”He’s interesting, so that’s not an option.”

Ancient Snake gave the Fox a look. The Fox’s reaction also amused him. The Fox... cared a lot about the life and death of this Magician.

Interesting.
