The Daily Life Of A Cyberpunk Magician

Chapter 74 - 75 Became a Black Currant Shareholder
Chapter 74: Chapter 75 Became a Black Currant ShareholderFacing such skepticism from Jiang Shu, Kirie was already an old-timer and naturally turned a deaf ear, while Shen Xuwan’s cheeks flushed with shyness, looking a bit restless, she stammered, ”I just had a little this morning...”

”It’s okay, then eat more,” Jiang Shu said. He still had some bread and stuff, which was definitely enough to fend off hunger in the morning.

Shen Xuwan lowered her head to drink the porridge, seemingly trying to hide the blush on her face in the bowl.

Damn it, to be so unimpressive, it was just a breakfast...

But she really envied Kirie, judging by her demeanor, she must have frequently enjoyed Jiang Shu’s cooking skills.

Having lived for twenty-six years, Shen Xuwan felt envious for the first time in her heart, but she was a person of principle.

She absolutely couldn’t lose her dignified demeanor for a bite or two of food.

Kirie slurped her porridge, taking a glance at Shen Xuwan, who had suddenly turned shy as an ostrich, feeling disdainful in her heart.

Ha, such a novice, but this shy demeanor was truly irresistible, enough to be a female public enemy.

She glanced at Jiang Shu again and saw him sneak peaks at Shen Xuwan uncontrollably.

Her judgment wasn’t wrong; the wizard liked mature women.

Kirie Tsukimiya felt a little reassured.

Not long after, a picturesque breakfast ended, and Jiang Shu coughed lightly, instructing Su Xiaoou, ”This morning you’ll learn from Tsukimiya, watch carefully, learn well, the principles of science and math are very important in magic, got it?”

”Got it,” Su Xiaoou nodded like a pecking chicken.

So Jiang Shu turned to Kirie and said, ”Then I’ll leave Su Xiaoou to you.”

”Uh-huh,” Kirie also nodded like a pecking chicken.

”Well, it’s about time, Shen Xuwan, let’s go,” Jiang Shu looked over at Shen Xuwan, ”Let’s go meet Sister Mei, that is, the theater’s manager.”

”Okay.” Shen Xuwan regained her ladylike demeanor, nodded slightly, and followed Jiang Shu with graceful steps.

The two left the Magic House, and Jiang Shu looked at her, ”Has your contract with New Moon Hall been confirmed to expire? There shouldn’t be any legal disputes, right?”

”No.” Shen Xuwan smiled, ”When I signed the contract, I was young, so I had a reliable lawyer review it, there were no tricky clauses.”

”That’s good,” Jiang Shu nodded, stopped in front of Sister Mei’s office, and knocked on the door.

”Come in,” Sister Mei’s voice came from inside.

Jiang Shu opened the door, at this time Sister Mei was already working at her desk, the epitome of a professional businesswoman.

”Sister Mei, this is Shen Xuwan, she’s here to sign a residency contract with Black Currant,” Jiang Shu introduced, stepping aside to reveal Shen Xuwan behind him.

”Hello, Sister Mei, I’m Shen Xuwan,” Shen Xuwan stepped forward, extending her hand to shake with Sister Mei who had stood up.

Sister Mei smiled, ”I’m Yu Dongmei, nice to meet you. Please, take a seat.”

There were two seats in front of the desk, one directly opposite Sister Mei and one to the side. Obviously, one was the main seat, and one was the secondary.

”Um,” Shen Xuwan glanced at Jiang Shu and took the seat to the side.

Jiang Shu didn’t notice this detail and naturally sat right across from Sister Mei.

Seeing this, Sister Mei was momentarily startled, then the corners of her eyes filled with a genuine smile. She pulled out a contract and pushed it toward Jiang Shu, ”Just as we discussed last time, a revenue share plus guarantee contract, 30% share plus one million in guaranteed money, a one-year term contract. Take a look.”

Jiang Shu took the contract, flipped through a few pages; with his level, he naturally couldn’t make much of it, so he pushed it towards Shen Xuwan, ”What do you think?”

”I don’t understand it either, whatever you decide is fine,” Shen Xuwan continued, she truly didn’t care about money now, well, thanks to Jiang Shu’s efforts, she had become a vulgar woman interested only in Black Silver.

”Uh, don’t you have a lawyer friend?” Jiang Shu recalled her previous words, ”Have him take a look. Even though we trust Sister Mei’s character, it’s still a matter of contract after all.”

”Yes, you’d better take a close look at the contract,” Sister Mei also said with a smile, ”If there are any clauses you’re not satisfied with, we can make further modifications.”

Hearing both of them say this, Shen Xuwan sent the electronic version of the contract to her lawyer friend and then waited quietly for a reply.

”Jiang Shu, Sister Mei has something to ask you.” Sister Mei suddenly spoke up, and even with her experience, she felt somewhat embarrassed about what she was about to say.

”Sister Mei, please tell me,” Jiang Shu said, all ears.

”To be frank, you probably have an understanding of our theater’s situation,” Sister Mei began.

”...What are you referring to?” Jiang Shu didn’t quite understand.

”In Lonely City’s Entertainment Series, the trend is the rise of the Screen System and the decline of theaters. Black Currant Theater, unlike other theaters that have a rich cultural heritage, has never really had a star to call its own, so our number of die-hard fans is quite small, and we’re barely scraping by year-round,” Sister Mei explained, feeling helpless. She had been working hard, personally tending to everything, but under the overwhelming trend of theater decline, it was tough to turn the tide.

”Uh-huh, I’m aware of that,” Jiang Shu nodded.

Sister Mei continued, ”This time, your magic show netted a profit of around four million.”

”Four million? I remember the average ticket price being around two hundred, right?” Jiang Shu was puzzled. How could net profit end up being so high after adding the other costs?

”There are also series of advertising fees and broadcast rights fees,” Sister Mei said with a smile. ”In any case, this magic show’s economic benefits were much higher than you might have imagined. As for your share, I mentioned previously that you would get about a million.”

”Hmm?” Jiang Shu frowned slightly, remembering what Sister Mei had mentioned before...

Wasn’t it a quarter of the ticket sales? That should only be about a hundred and fifty thousand.

However, he didn’t speak up and just kept listening to Sister Mei.

”But, our theater is going through another round of renovations soon, and it’s tough to spare money from other sources...” Sister Mei went on. ”What I mean is, could you use this one million to help with the renovations? In return, you would own about five percent of the theater.”

”However, you’d need to sign an additional clause with the theater,” she added, producing another contract. ”After your current residency contract expires, if you want to continue performing magic at the theater under similar salary conditions, you would need to give Black Currant first consideration, with not more than a five percent variance.”

”Take a stake in ownership?” Jiang Shu repeated, pondering it for a moment before agreeing, ”Of course, I can.”

B: Take a stake in ownership? In ownership of who?

C: ???

D: My doubts of your charioteering are profound, but alas, without evidence to present to the crowd, I must endure the grinding wheel upon my face, which pains me greatly.

Taking a stake in Black Currant was undoubtedly all gain and no harm for him. Sister Mei must have intentionally raised his share to lure him into investing, right?

One million for a five percent stake, even for Black Currant as it is now, that’s a steal.

So, Sister Mei’s idea was quite clear, to firmly tie him and even Shen Xuwan to Black Currant Theater’s chariot through this investment.

In the theater system of Lonely City’s Entertainment Series, contracts tended to be short-term.

In other words, Sister Mei had a high opinion of him and was afraid that another theater would poach him once his contract expired.

Was she willing to make such a bold bet after just two magic performances?

Jiang Shu looked at Sister Mei, her wisdom of the years hidden in the weathered lines around her eyes—she was more decisive than some men.

Given the situation, encountering an open-minded director ready to promote him, he would naturally not refuse Sister Mei’s kind offer—it was a win-win.

”Alright, thank you for your help,” Sister Mei said with a broad smile.

”Uh-huh, I have another three million. How about I lend that to the theater as well, and you give me an additional fifteen percent ownership?” Jiang Shu said with a mischievous grin, asking for the moon.

”This...” Sister Mei refused on the spot, still with a smile, ”Just the million is enough, I appreciate your help.”

So that’s how it was.

Jiang Shu tested the waters and chuckled to himself.

So now, am I a major shareholder of Black Currant?
