The Daily Life Of A Cyberpunk Magician

Chapter 62 - 63 Magic: Black Acts
Chapter 62: Chapter 63 Magic: Black Acts”What?” Wolf quickly asked, ”Where is she?”

”We found Ms. Shen Xuwan in the bathroom of the kitchen, she had passed out,” the officer replied, taking out a square, brown box from his suitcase. ”We also found this at the scene.”

”Music box!” The curator stepped forward quickly, took the music box, and inspected it closely, ”It’s real.”

However, it was obvious that the Deception Group had not gone through all this trouble just to amuse the curator. The curator himself was well aware of this, and he immediately thought of the real motive of the Deception Group. His heart tightened, and with a trembling voice, he asked, ”What about the earrings?”

”The earrings are missing,” the officer replied bluntly.

”This...” The curator took several deep breaths and then regained his composure. Although these earrings were extremely valuable, they were ultimately just precious trinkets.

The memorial, however, was a mess.

He felt irritated inside.

Having Shen Xuwan dress up as Shen Ting to perform was supposed to make today’s tenth anniversary celebration shine. Instead, everything had been ruined by the Deception Group.

”Police Chief Wolf!” At that moment, another officer came running, ”We’ve found the robbers’ escape route. They still used the ventilation ducts to escape, entering through the kitchen and leaving through the alley we investigated last time.”

”Hmm?” Wolf frowned, ”Didn’t I arrange a few people to tail them?”

”Some were hypnotized, and we didn’t notice when the fox did it,” the officer replied helplessly, ”The plainclothes officers nearby were knocked out, and their ability to counter disguise is very strong.”

Hearing this, it was almost certain that the theft had been planned by the Deception Group; previous assumptions had now become reality.

”Damn!” Wolf suddenly remembered, this fox was extremely dangerous, even he could hardly resist the fox’s hypnotism. He anxiously asked, ”Were there any casualties?”

”None,” the officer’s response allowed Wolf to breathe a sigh of relief.

This also made Wolf feel an unreasonable sense of gratitude towards the Deception Group.

Thankfully it was them; if it had been others planning the theft, they probably wouldn’t care about the lives of ordinary people or the police.

——

”So basically, that’s it.” The leader of the police team concluded the report. After two or three hours of investigating the scene, they had traced the detailed entry and escape routes used by the Deception Group. However, curiously, they couldn’t understand how the Deception Group had managed to hide so close to the venue.

Moreover, even though they were nearby, the officers couldn’t figure out how the Deception Group managed to rush into the venue and abduct Shen Xuwan within two minutes.

”We let the Deception Group escape again,” Wolf turned to Jiang Shu, sighed, ”These people slip away too quickly, creating a time gap. Now we have no idea where they’ve gone.”

”Don’t include me,” Jiang Shu stepped back half a step, drawing a clear line, ”I’m just a regular guest.”

Wolf looked at him, speechless.

Jiang: Are you serious with that half-step back?

”Has Miss Shen Xuwan woken up?” Wolf asked the officer again.

”She just woke up, and she’s fine,” the officer replied, ”Our people are recording her statement in her room.”

”Alright, I’ll go take a look,” Wolf glanced at Jiang Shu, ”Are you coming?”

”Yes, let’s go together,” Jiang Shu nodded, at times like this, he was just a regular auxiliary staff of the police station.

It was not that he wanted to get a close look at what Shen Xuwan looked like, he simply wanted to understand the case.

Like the Black Currant Theater, New Moon Hall also had a residential area for the permanent musicians, just behind the exhibition hall, a short distance away. Ascending the open spiral staircase, the second floor corridor housed fifteen rooms, with Shen Xuwan living in the most cornered one, which was also the smallest.

At this time, her room was open. Two officers were seen standing in the living room, while Shen Xuwan leaned casually on the sofa.

”Knock knock—” Wolf knocked on the door.

”Police Chief.” The two officers saw him, saluted, then stood to one side.

”Hmm.” Wolf nodded at them and then looked toward Shen Xuwan on the sofa and introduced himself, ”I am Wolf, hello.”

”Hello.” Shen Xuwan replied, her voice very gentle, ”Sorry, my head is still a bit dizzy, I can’t stand up.”

She leaned against the sofa, slowly arranging her hair, her whole demeanour exuded a lazy charm.

”No problem,” Wolf said, then took the report handed to him by the officer and glanced through it quickly. As the report seemed to have just begun and the officers had not recorded anything, he instructed the two officers, ”You go busy yourselves with other matters, leave this to me.”

The officers stood at attention, ”Yes.”

Wolf looked at her, her frail appearance, and continued, ”Are you sure you don’t need to visit a nearby clinic?”

”No need.” Shen Xuwan shook her head, ”There is a doctor on duty today at New Moon Hall, the dose of the sedative was very small, I just need to rest a while.”

”Hmm, may I ask you a few questions?” Wolf continued.

Shen Xuwan nodded, then patted the small sofa on either side of her, ”Please, have a seat.”

Jiang Shu followed Wolf as they sat down. He looked at the four Tablet Spirits on either side, and muttered under his breath, ”Stop taking pictures, all four of you stop snapping photos, you’re making it look like I told you to do it.”

Xiao Jia’s camera extended out, turned back to look at Jiang Shu, and responded on the screen: Photographer working hours, do not disturb.

Jiang Shu: ”...”

He glanced over, and honestly, the photo-taking skills of these four Tablet Spirits were quite something, Shen Xuwan, already beautiful, appeared even more ethereal through their lenses.

”Could you repeat what happened?” asked Wolf.

”Hmm.” Shen Xuwan complied. She shifted her position, resting her hand on the back of the sofa and supporting her head as she looked towards Wolf, her casual movements emitted an unparalleled charm.

”After taking a bow on stage, the venue suddenly went dark. I panicked a bit, and suddenly, a group of people rushed up and covered my mouth with a cloth, but they didn’t secure it tightly, so I shouted,” she explained, ”But soon after, I passed out, and when I woke up, I was back in my room. They told me, I was carried back.”

”Hmm, did you see their faces? Were they wearing masks?” Wolf continued to ask.

”Sorry, I didn’t see anything.” Shen Xuwan thought about it, her expression hesitant, but after thinking it over, she still spoke, ”I actually didn’t see anything, I just felt a rush of wind as if someone had charged at me, then suddenly there was a cloth over my face.”

”You saw nothing?” Wolf repeated, looking up at her.

Shen Xuwan furrowed her brows as she recalled, affirming, ”Correct.”

”Didn’t see...” Wolf muttered, if she saw nothing from such proximity, there was a big problem here.

At this moment, Jiang Shu suddenly spoke up, ”It was a blackout job.”

”Blackout job?” Wolf looked at him, and hearing Jiang Shu speak up, he knew, this guy had figured something out again.

”Yes, a blackout job,” Jiang Shu confirmed, ”It’s commonly used in magic.”
