Chapter 81: Chapter 82 There is a Mole in the Police Station (Thanks to the Overlord Wang Erde)Jiang Shu crawled out from under the Magic Table. He touched the spot on his neck that had felt like it’d been pricked by a needle.

There was no puncture wound, and he didn’t feel anything unusual.

That meant using this method to return to the city actually reassembled his body, avoiding abnormal status effects.

He wondered if he could fully recover from injuries this way, a sort of full-health resurrection.

Had someone just tried to kidnap him?

But in the last second, he had reacted in time and managed to teleport back...

Uh, the cops were too far away to question him, he could probably make up an excuse for them, but Kirie, at such a close distance...

Well, he’d deal with that later.

He opened his wristwatch and dialed Kirie directly. He wanted to confirm her safety, but since the kidnapper was after him, Kirie should be fine.

The call was hung up instantly, and then Wolf’s call came through.

”Jiang Shu, where are you? Weren’t you with Kirie?” Wolf’s loud voice came through, sounding very urgent, ”She’s been kidnapped!”

”Kirie’s been kidnapped?” Jiang Shu furrowed his brows. He rapidly constructed a story in his mind, ”I was just performing a magic trick for her, made myself disappear, so I haven’t been with her for a while.”

”Get here fast, I’ve sent you the location, I’m chasing them now.” The roar of a sports car echoed from Wolf’s end before the call was abruptly cut off.

It seemed he might have put Kirie in danger. He wasn’t sure if the kidnappers were after him or Kirie.

Jiang Shu sprinted out of Black Currant Theater, hailed a car from the street, and drove towards the coordinates sent by Wolf.

But as he neared District D, his wristwatch suddenly received a message.

Alpha: You’re going the wrong way. The location is here, I’m in the car now.

This was a message from Alpha.

Jiang Shu immediately changed the auto-drive’s coordinates, then sent the location to Wolf, ”Kirie is here; you followed the wrong car. Hurry over.”

There was no time to think of an explanation; the situation was urgent.

Wolf: What? I’m already at District B, damn it, I knew it was strange for them to head to District B... Hang on, I’ll be there in twenty minutes.

Anonymous message: Your woman is in our hands. Come alone, and don’t tell the police station, or she dies. Cooperate, and you can both live.

Jiang Shu glanced at the message, which came with a location, and it was exactly the same as the one sent by Alpha.

The same old kidnapping trick, such a cliché plot.

He sent another message to Wolf: The kidnappers want me to come alone. Don’t come over, don’t provoke them into harming her. I can handle it myself.

Jiang Shu’s face was grim as he watched the landscape speed by the window.

Five minutes later, the taxi stopped in the bustling area of District F. Jiang Shu opened the car door, stepped out of the taxi, and looked around.

This was District F, where the sense of decaying technology was particularly stark.

The streets were dirtier and more cluttered than in District E, with trash strewn everywhere, potholed roads, and pools of water that had turned green with filth emanated a foul stench. Yet, looking up, the skyscrapers still towered, and the massive billboards were just as dazzling and eye-catching.

He followed the directions and walked into a small alley. At the entrance, a group of young punks were chatting, cigarettes hanging from their mouths.

”Excuse me.” Jiang Shu sidestepped, passing by them.

The punks eyed the sharply dressed Jiang Shu, sharing glances, an unspoken consensus between them.

Easy pickings.

”Stop right there, we’re in charge of cleaning this alley, and you’ve just dirtied it by walking through. It’s not too much to ask for a cleaning fee, is it?” One of the scruffy men blocked the way.

”Not too much,” Jiang Shu responded indifferently, pulling out a large five hundred-dollar bill, ”Did any of you see three men come in here just now? They should have been carrying a girl, or maybe a sack.”

”No,” Scruffy’s eyes lit up at the sight of the five hundred-dollar bill, snatched it from Jiang Shu’s hand, and then stared straight at him, his eyes gleaming green.

”Ah,” Jiang Shu knew what they were going to do when he saw their expressions.

If it were Wolf, he probably wouldn’t bother with small talk, right?

Sigh.

Jiang Shu let his hands hang down, and two special cards made by Kirie slipped out from the sleeves of his suit, sticking to the palms of his hands. Subsequently, he struck first, swiftly giving each of the three scruffy men a palm strike.

The thought-activated cards unleashed a weighty force through them, instantly sending the trio flying and crashing into the wall.

”Bang, bang, bang—” The three men fell to the ground, raising a cloud of wall dust, feeling a painful sensation all over, and they cried out incessantly, ”Ouch, ouch!”

”I’ll ask again, did any of you see someone enter just now?” Jiang Shu crouched in front of them and asked calmly.

”Yes, just like you said, three men with a sack went in, all unfamiliar faces,” stuttered Scruffy, who didn’t know what kind of creature he had encountered. This guy in a suit had such terrifying palm strength, he couldn’t muster the slightest bit of resistance.

”Unfamiliar faces...” Jiang Shu repeated, ”Not from around here?”

”No, not from Zone F, probably not from E Zone either,” Scruffy thought for a moment and shook his head, ”If they were such distinctive three people, I would have remembered.”

”Get lost,” Jiang Shu said and stood up, walking deeper into the alley.

Following directions, he weaved through the alleyways, and after a short while, he stopped. In front of him was an abandoned factory, from which a peculiar smell wafted in the wind.

Jiang Shu took a sniff, it was very similar to the smell at the explosion scene.

The same group of people.

So why would their target be him?

That was strange. To lure Kirie, using an explosion case was easy, since she was a technician at the police station—once an explosion happened, she would be on the scene, then she would stand guard and wait for a chance to kidnap her...

That was the logical train of thought.

But for me, I don’t have such behavioral logic, appearing at the scene of the explosion was purely accidental. If their goal was really me, such a method was illogical, unless...

There was an insider at the police station.

The insider saw him enter the police station with Kirie, surmising that if there was an explosion case, Wolf would bring both Kirie and him to the scene.

But even so, it was only a chance that he would appear at the scene. To plan an explosion case decisively for such a probability, proved that these people had significant designs, and they were in urgent need of his help.

So urgent that...

They could not afford to wait.

Was there something that was about to happen recently?

Thinking this, Jiang Shu suddenly noticed on the factory gate’s wall, three familiar security cameras were watching him.

The Tablet Spirits...

Why weren’t they coming out to find him?

Just as this thought occurred to him, Jiang Shu moved quickly, leaping aside. He looked behind him where a few steps away, a man with a dagger in hand had stopped.

”You react very quickly, you’re quite impressive,” the man said with a smile, casually sliding the dagger into his waistband, ”Come on, let’s go inside. Be a good boy, or else your lady friend will die.”

”Let’s be direct, I can help you, but you must ensure the safety of both Kirie and me, and tell me, who is the insider at the police station?” Jiang Shu looked at him.

”Hm?” The man paused for a moment, then started laughing, ”Interesting.”
