Different World Card Master: Change the World with Cards

291: Meeting beginsA hangover is a terribly uncomfortable experience, and having to wake up early while hungover makes it even worse.

Xu Bai rubbed his head, feeling like he was going to die.

He really hadn’t drunk alcohol in a long time; he only had two glasses yesterday and got drunk. Fortunately, they were only a few steps away from the meeting location, otherwise they probably would have been late.

”Morning.”

”Morning.”

Xu Bai and Wu Zijin met while going down for breakfast, greeted each other, and walked together towards the hotel dining hall.

Upon entering the dining hall, Bai Shan was already sitting there eating breakfast early.

Xu Bai glanced at the breakfast provided by the hotel and finally took a cup of soy milk, two meat buns, and a tea egg; this was his breakfast for today.

While he was choosing his breakfast, the Liu Mengyan sisters also came over, holding plates to select their own breakfast.

Xu Bai carried his tray over, sat down opposite Bai Shan, and greeted him.

”Good morning.”

Bai Shan nodded in response. After swallowing the food in his mouth, he said, ”You will follow me for now. I will take you to meet the other elders of the Card Maker Guild.”

”Alright.”

Xu Bai nodded, having no objections to Bai Shan’s arrangement.

Although this academic conference ultimately had other purposes, since they had gathered everyone under the banner of an academic conference, they would still exchange academic ideas.

Therefore, this conference would last for three days. On the afternoon of the last day, they would ask for the opinions of the Card Maker Guild’s Card Makers and then have everyone vote on whether to disclose the information from the Card Maker Guild. The first two and a half days would be for listening to reports and mutual exchange.

The scale of this conference was so large that those giving academic reports had also been strictly selected. Those invited to give reports were either elders of the Card Maker Guild or people with a guild level of 7 or higher. By the way, I forgot to mention that Xu Bai’s current guild level had just reached level 7, which was also due to later citations of his papers.

Xu Bai also had a report scheduled for 2 PM on the second day, which was tomorrow afternoon at 2 PM. His report content was about the flight principles of drones, lasting a total of thirty minutes.

This was Xu Bai’s first time giving an academic report. To be honest, Xu Bai was still a little nervous. Having to deliver his speech in front of ten thousand people, he didn’t know if any problems would arise.

Xu Bai was now considered a relatively prominent figure among Card Makers. However, because Xu Bai hadn’t published any other papers after the few he wrote at the beginning, many people still had quite a few controversies regarding him. They thought he was too arrogant and unwilling to share his knowledge. At the same time, perhaps because Xu Bai was now collaborating more with the Government, some people within the guild felt that he was too biased towards the Government.

Bai Shan was also aware of these controversies, so he approved of Xu Bai going up to share. After all, as an elder of the Card Maker Guild, he still needed to make some contributions. As for any bias, there was no need to worry about that, since Bai Shan was even more biased.

The Card Maker Guild was sometimes very arrogant, but the purpose of their arrogance was actually to encourage more Card Makers to share their production ideas and let the development of card making flourish.

At the same time, the Card Maker Guild was sometimes very inclusive. Regardless of which faction you were biased towards, as long as you were willing to share your knowledge and achievements, there would be a place for you here.

Therefore, it was unknown how many schemers and ulterior motives would emerge from the results of this conference. Hopefully, the outcome would be good.

After they finished eating, they walked together towards the conference venue, only separating to go their own ways when they reached the entrance.

The first person Bai Shan took Xu Bai to meet was one of the three earliest elders of the Card Maker Guild. It was just a coincidence that the person happened to be eating breakfast at the entrance.

The person in front of him surprised Xu Bai a bit. He had assumed the person would have gray hair and look frail. He was right about the gray hair, but the person was not weak at all. Seeing the person’s bulging muscles, Xu Bai felt that he could be knocked away with a single punch. At first, Xu Bai even thought the person was a security guard.

Upon meeting, after Bai Shan’s introduction, the other person enthusiastically shook Xu Bai’s hand, making Xu Bai feel a bit embarrassed and also feeling like his hand was about to be shaken off.

”So this is what Bai Xiaobai looks like. It really surprises me. You are truly young and promising.”

”I am also very honored to meet you. I have read all the papers you have written, and they have benefited me greatly.”

After some pleasantries, the two of them followed the crowd and continued walking inside.

After entering, there was no opening ceremony; people could freely choose which lectures they wanted to attend.

Although many people had already arrived, there were still 30 minutes until the lectures started, so everyone could still walk around freely.

Yes, walk around freely. This hall was not empty; instead, there were three or four rows of spaces provided for people to set up stalls. Calling them stalls was actually a bit of a misnomer, as they weren’t selling anything, but rather showcasing their knowledge.

These stalls were actually quite simple: just a table and a chair, with a display board about two meters tall next to it.

The reason for setting up these stalls was actually to give opportunities to the young Card Makers participating in this academic conference. After all, only those prominent Card Makers were scheduled to give lectures, and most of these Card Makers were elderly, with the exception of Xu Bai.

Actually, it wasn’t just young people. The people setting up stalls in this hall were diverse, regardless of age. They might be an elder of the Card Maker Guild wanting to share their latest ideas that lacked experimental data, or an assistant doing odd jobs in a laboratory wanting to gain recognition from others, or someone who had been in seclusion researching cards, wanting to find like-minded people to discuss with.

Here, there was no distinction of status or rank, only the exchange of knowledge. Everyone could express their own opinions, and everyone had the right to share knowledge.

Of course, not everyone was qualified to set up a stall and share their knowledge here. To set up a stall, one needed to apply in advance. Only card ideas that had passed the application process could be showcased here. At the same time, those who could enter were also people with invitation letters, so both parties were people with a certain level of ability, and there wouldn’t be a situation where someone couldn’t understand it at all.

Bai Shan took Xu Bai around the hall for a while, introduced him to some people, and then let Xu Bai move around freely.

Xu Bai’s current identity could be considered directly exposed. When you are powerful enough, no one wants to openly oppose you, and even if they want to oppose you, they can only do it behind the scenes; otherwise, it might cause public outrage. Therefore, Bai Shan directly introduced Xu Bai to others as Bai Xiaobai.

Others had also long heard of Bai Xiaobai’s deeds and expressed that they would definitely come to listen to his lecture tomorrow.
