Different World Card Master: Change the World with Cards

233: Frozen smileThe guards sent to the front of the train groped their way forward in the darkness.

Although they all had flashlights, they couldn’t turn them on at this moment, as doing so would make them targets and immediately reveal their presence.

The night was now a protective cover for both sides, as they searched and felt their way through the darkness.

Since the steam locomotive had stopped smoothly, they guessed it wasn’t due to an external cause; if it were, the steam locomotive would have made an emergency stop, which would have woken everyone up.

Furthermore, it was difficult for an external accident to cause serious damage to a steam locomotive, as it was also designed to withstand mutated beasts.

Therefore, it was very likely an internal cause; the person driving inside probably slowed down gradually and brought the steam locomotive to a halt.

So, what was certain now was that the front of the train was extremely dangerous.

Soon, the guards reached the junction between the second and first carriages; some of them lay on the ground, others hid behind tables and chairs, avoiding the moonlight shining through the windows and the attention of the people ahead.

The team leader stared intently ahead, observing every move of the two people in front.

These two were a bit far from the rear carriage and hadn’t heard any sounds, so they weren’t alert at all.

The front door of the first carriage was already open, and one person was peeking out, looking around.

By the moonlight, the guard clearly saw it was a woman in a crew uniform; the other person was hidden in the shadows, sometimes looking forward, sometimes looking back.

It was likely not all staff members were involved; looking back was to prevent anyone behind them from waking up, and looking forward was to confirm that the driver was still asleep.

If one were to ask why they didn’t kill the driver, it was because people who could drive steam locomotives were still very scarce; every train captain was trained with great effort, and killing them would be very uneconomical.

”What’s going on? Why haven’t our people come yet? Are we really just two people?”

The other person replied while keeping watch.

”That’s impossible; we agreed to meet here. Could it be that we stopped too far ahead, and they need to catch up from behind? Let’s wait a bit longer.”

After talking, the two continued to wait patiently.

The guard captain heard their words, pondered for a moment, then signaled to a team member hiding behind a seat opposite him; the other person returned the signal.

3, 2, 1,

”Bang.” ”Bang.”

Two gunshots rang out almost simultaneously, followed by the two people in front falling to the ground.

Then, the people behind quickly moved forward to check on their condition.

Of the two, the one holding the gun no longer had a pulse, while the other had only lost the ability to move.

Immediately after, the captain stripped off the dead man’s clothes and put them on himself.

Two team members dragged the two individuals to the rear carriage, while the others continued to ambush in other seats, waiting for the people they were supposed to meet... Time rewound, going back a few hours.

A team of about a dozen people had been waiting on the road early.

Today’s arrangements were a bit too rushed, also because the Tianlong Republic’s decision to return home was too sudden, leaving them no time to make more detailed plans.

However, if they missed this opportunity, there might not be another, so they proceeded with the action.

This location was where they chose to act; it was now outside the Luo Lan Empire, far from human habitation, surrounded by mountains, so they didn’t have to worry about being discovered by others.

They could directly blame it on mutated beasts, which was a good plan.

The dozen people found the corresponding road sign and continued walking for a distance; this road sign marked where the train was supposed to start stopping.

However, due to the train’s inertia, the stopping distance would likely be a bit further ahead...

”Brother Bao, we really predicted it; they are indeed going to act here.”

Feng Bao curved his lips into a smile.

”Fifteen people in total. Are they looking down on us, or why are so few people coming?”

Wang Jian: ”Should we act now, or wait a bit?”

Feng Bao recounted the number of people who had arrived and thought for a moment.

”Let’s wait a bit longer. What if this is just their first batch of people, and more will come later? If we act now, it might alert the others.

We’ll move when the train stops and they stand up.”

”Alright, if there are only these few people, let’s each assign ourselves a number of targets now, so it’ll be easier to act later.”

Feng Bao did not refute this statement.

The people who came were snipers sent by the Tianlong Republic; they had thought many people would come, so they sent over twenty snipers to ambush in the mountains, but they didn’t expect to overestimate the other side, as only fifteen people arrived.

In fact, when the Luo Lan Empire announced the death of its king, they had already set off.

After their research, this was the only convenient place for an ambush along the way; other places were either in cities, in the sea, or within Tianlong territory.

Therefore, it was not convenient for the other party to act, as this matter could not be brought to light.

They had been living in the mountains for the past few days, like wild people, waiting for the train to arrive, and then received the message of its departure this morning.

Estimating the time, it would pass through here around evening, so they had been closely observing this area early on.

Fortunately, things went as they predicted; the other party really sent people over... Both sides waited for several hours, and finally, the silhouette of the steam locomotive appeared in the distance. The people below exchanged glances, and those above also became fully alert.

The forest was very quiet; only the distant sound of the steam locomotive contacting the tracks was exceptionally loud. The mutated beasts in this area had actually been cleared out by Feng Bao and his team, to prevent them from causing trouble at a critical moment.

The steam locomotive approached from afar, and its speed began to decrease when it reached the aforementioned sign, then it passed in front of the fifteen people below, finally stopping a short distance ahead.

The fifteen people below quickly stood up, their faces smiling, revealing expressions of certainty of victory.

In their view, the train stopping meant that the internal operation had gone smoothly; now they only needed to board the train and eliminate the people inside.

They needed to kill everyone inside the train, including the two people they had bribed, and then have the train captain they brought crash the steam locomotive into the mountains, faking an accident.

However, before they could even walk towards the first carriage, these people all fell down, their smiles frozen on their faces.

Feng Bao and his team did not go down after dealing with the fifteen people below.

Their mission was only to eliminate the external threats; next, they were to wait for a signal from the people inside the train.

It was at this moment that Xu Bai rolled off the bed.
