Reborn in the Eighties as a Housewife with a Space

Chapter 1023: Chapter 1017 Rescue_1

“Please be careful when you move those items, don’t cause any secondary harm to the victims.” Jing Xin stated without hesitation. Regardless of whether the situation was as they expected, they had to rescue people first. The consequences of any delay would be unthinkable.

“Deputy Chief, we understand,” said Ding Xi and the others all together, and then began to dig, bit by bit.

Once they successfully removed the debris, everyone couldn’t help but tear up. A mother had been using her body to protect her two children underneath her. However, the younger child was probably too young and showed no signs of life. The mother had taken the brunt of the weight, her spine had been fatally crushed. Even though she had stopped breathing, she remained in a protective posture for the sake of her child underneath her.

Despite her desperate protective efforts, one child was lost. The sight was gut-wrenching for the rescue team. They were unsure if the surviving child could handle learning about her family’s condition let alone endure any medical treatment.

“Uncle, how are my Mom and brother? Have they been rescued?” Zhuo Mengling asked Jing Xin’s rescue team.

“They’ve been rescued. Now can you follow the doctor to have your injuries treated first?” Jing Xin said softly.

“Can I see my Mom and brother first? I’ll go after I see them,” Zhuo Mengling pleaded as she looked at Jing Xin’s rescue team.

“What’s your name?” Rather responding to her request, Jing Xin asked for her name instead.

“My name is Zhuo Mengling.” Zhuo Mengling’s name was given by her father, who hadn’t been home for a long time. She couldn’t recall the last time she saw her father.

“Mengling, your mother and brother were taken for treatment as soon as they were rescued. You can’t see them right now. You need to have your injuries treated first. Once you’re healed, you’ll be able to see them, okay?” Jing Xin tried to soothe the young girl’s emotions.

“Really?” Zhuo Mengling looked at Jing Xin, uncertain if he was telling the truth.

“Of course it’s true. Don’t believe me? Ask them.” Jing Xin didn’t have the heart to deceive her. If he didn’t lie to her, there was a chance she might not agree to get treated. If she didn’t get treatment, her future was uncertain. They could only deceive her with this lie for now. It would be a matter for later if she learned the truth once she was better.

“It’s true.” Ding Xi and the others echoed, not anticipating that their boss would implicate them in this lie. A group of upright men were now struggling to speak up.

“Alright, I’ll go. But you must remember your promise. I have to see my mom and brother once I’m healed.” Zhuo Mengling said, and then allowed the doctors and nurses to carry her away.

However, she had no idea what situation she would face when she saw her mother and brother again.

“Deputy Chief, is it good to deceive her like this?” Li Dabao watched Mengling being carried away and enquired in a low tone.

“Are you going to tell her that her mother and brother are dead and that she’s the only one left? Will she agree to get treated then? It’s clear to all of us how much she loves her mother and brother. If we tell her the truth now, we all know how disastrous the consequences would be. So why not just tell her a white lie for now? What do you say?” Looking at his companions, Jing Xin could tell that they felt the same. It was just that they all found this young girl’s situation too pitiful.

“The Deputy Chief is right. Sometimes we can’t be too rigid; it won’t benefit us when dealing with some special missions.” Liang Shaohui and Ding Xi nodded in agreement.
