Reborn in the Eighties as a Housewife with a Space

Chapter 1006: Chapter 1000: To the Rescue_1

“Everyone, take the time to rest now. Once we arrive, we’ll be thrown into the rescue operation, and there won’t be time to rest then. I know some of you are veterans who have taken part in this kind of rescue before, but some of you have just come from school. You’ll need to help guide them, watch out for each other and ensure no harm comes to any of us. Can you all do that?” On the train, Xie Jun addressed the young group, many of whom were not from the research institute and had just enlisted.

They wouldn’t understand that such things could happen in an instant, so all he could do was advise them. Many details were left unsaid as they rushed to the disaster zone, causing him, as the group leader, to worry about their safety.

“Sir, we understand. Rest assured, we will help each other and accomplish our mission,” the researchers and soldiers responded emphatically.

They didn’t realize the shock they would face when they saw the devastation at ground zero. It was going to be a harsh lesson for them in life.

“I know you guys are capable. You’ve only had simple first aid training, so don’t blindly attempt anything you’re unsure of once we’re there. Do you understand? Although I’m not a soldier anymore, past experiences have taught me that danger is ubiquitous,” Xie Jun spoke, looking at the soldiers in the carriage. Maybe the higher-ups had other plans in mind by involving these new enlistees, or it might have been irresponsible to do so.

“Sir, we understand. Thank you for being with us.” Hearing Xie Jun repeatedly warn them, the soldiers felt less relaxed. They gradually quieted down, and before long, the entire carriage fell silent.

Seeing this, Xie Jun was slightly relieved. He purposely spoke that way, as many had not seen the cruel and destructive power of natural disasters. If they let their guard down, they might end up needing the rescue instead, so he had to prepare them mentally first.

Back in the Qins’ village in H Province, Qin Xue asked her grandparents to watch the children while she washed several sweet potatoes and started steaming them to prepare for making shrimp pancakes.

Chu Molin was grinding rice flour, and Qin Jiale, following Qin Xue’s instructions, washed the whelks, added a bit of salt to them to make them purge the sand from their stomachs. Ideally, they would use sesame oil, but they were out of it, so they used salt.

“Sis, why are you steaming sweet potatoes?” Qin Jiale had never seen anyone making shrimp pancakes and didn’t know what her sister was using the sweet potatoes for.

“Didn’t you say you wanted to eat shrimp pancakes?” Qin Xue replied as she stoked the fire.

“Yes, but what does it have to do with your steaming sweet potatoes?” Qin Jiale looked at her sister, puzzled about why she was doing things differently from others.

“Rice alone would make the shrimp pancake too chewy and hard to bite. But adding sweet potatoes would give it a softer touch, just like how yeast works in dough, understand? That way, the pancakes will be soft and fragrant. Also, do we have lettuce at home?” Qin Xue asked. Shrimp pancakes couldn’t be made without lettuce. You would dip the hot shrimp pancake into chili salt, wrap it in lettuce, and then take a bite. That was the perfect way to enjoy them.

“Yes, we do. Do you want some?” Qin Jiale asked her sister.
