The World's Richest Man: Start with the Daily Intelligence System

145: Chapter 145 Chairman?Guo Liang walked up to Zhang Wei and scrutinized him. ”Zhang Wei, it really is you?”

”You are... Guo Liang?”

Zhang Wei hadn’t expected to run into a former colleague here. Those unpleasant memories resurfaced in his mind.

Back then, he hadn’t yet awakened the Intelligence System, and his father was bedridden at home. His only conviction, besides giving his girlfriend a good life, was to work hard to help ease his family’s burden and strive to pay off their debts as soon as possible.

But it was clearly someone from the Project Design Department who had plagiarized another company’s advertising plan. In the end, because they had strong connections, he, an employee in the Sales Department responsible for negotiations, was made the scapegoat. Ultimately, he was even blacklisted from the entire industry, leaving him with no way to make a living.

The Guo Liang before him was that very colleague suspected of plagiarism. He hadn’t expected to encounter him in an elevator in City Name, a place with a population of 24 million.

Guo Liang sized him up; Zhang Wei’s attire looked ordinary, no different from before, and a sense of superiority welled up in his heart.

”Zhang Wei, I heard you haven’t been able to find a job since you were fired. Are you here at such a high-end office building for an interview or to sell insurance? You’re not here to pick up a delivery, are you? Are you afraid people will see the SF Express red vest you’re wearing underneath?”

”Manager Guo, you’re so humorous. Didn’t you see the floor he pressed? I heard that’s a jewelry company that recently moved in. They’re quite wealthy, having rented out an entire floor.” Guo Liang’s colleague spoke sarcastically from the side; society never lacked such sycophants who fawned over the powerful.

With his perspective now changed, Zhang Wei wouldn’t lower himself to argue with these clowns. Instead, he asked with a smile, ”What about the office floor the old company used to have? Why did you move?”

Guo Liang choked for a moment, then said with false bravado, ”The company’s performance has been good this year, so of course we had to move to a more high-end office space.”

Having said that, he seemed to regain his confidence, patting his chest as he said, ”You, back then, just had an issue with your work attitude. Unlike me, I’m now in charge of both the design and Sales Departments. I have nearly ten people relying on me for their livelihoods; the pressure is immense.”

Zhang Wei snorted in contempt. Previously, the Sales Department alone had over a dozen people. Now, both departments combined only had this many, and considering the change in office location, it was obvious that poor performance had led to layoffs. With fewer people, the office space would naturally need to be reduced.

Thinking about it, Guo Liang was truly pitiful, constantly showing off for a bit of hollow pride when he would have to act like a dog for his company’s leaders as soon as he reached his floor. Yet, the group of colleagues beside him didn’t see it that way, constantly flattering and fawning over him, making Zhang Wei shake his head.

Seeing him remain silent, Guo Liang didn’t want to let a good opportunity to show off slip away. He adopted a superior posture again: ”Zhang Wei, you just couldn’t read the situation back then. What’s the use of just working hard? If you had even half my wit, you wouldn’t be here picking up deliveries... Ow!”

Halfway through his sentence, An Xiaoxi, unable to bear it any longer, stomped hard on Guo Liang’s foot.

”Ow! Are you crazy?!” Guo Liang wailed incessantly.

The colleagues nearby immediately erupted like a boiling pot, beginning to hurl accusations.

”Does this young girl have no manners? How can you hit someone?”

”Exactly, she deserves to be with a delivery guy.”

Seeing An Xiaoxi being bullied, Zhang Wei’s temper flared up instantly.

Just as he was about to lash out, the elevator happened to stop at the 18th floor, where Star Jewelry was located.

The doors opened.

They saw over fifty people crowding the elevator lobby, led by Chen Jiayan. Everyone inside the elevator was stunned, completely unable to grasp the situation.

Chen Jiayan smiled slightly and said to everyone, ”Alright, everyone, listen to my command. One, two, three!”

The fifty people in the elevator lobby bowed in unison and greeted loudly, ”Hello, Chairman!”

Guo Liang and the others looked at each other in bewilderment. Were the people on the 18th floor crazy? Why were they saying ’Chairman’ to the elevator?

At that moment, Zhang Wei pushed past the clowns in front of him and stepped out of the elevator, saying loudly, ”Thank you all for the welcome, but please don’t go to such lengths next time. Our company values sincerity and love among employees. Next time I come, it would be more practical to treat me to lunch.”

Seeing how handsome the boss was, a female employee shouted from the crowd with a flushed face, ”Boss, what do you like to eat? I’ll treat you next time.”

”The staff meal is fine; I’m not a picky eater.” Zhang Wei smiled wryly; girls these days were truly bold.

”Alright, now that the welcome is over, everyone get back to work. In a while, the key leaders should come to the conference room; we’ll give the Chairman a recent progress report.”

Only then did the crowd slowly disperse. Chen Jiayan led Zhang Wei into the company, leaving Guo Liang and the others dumbfounded in the elevator.

”Did I see that right? This guy is actually the Chairman.”

”I could tell just now that this man wasn’t ordinary; his attire was clearly low-key.”

Listening to his colleagues whispering, Guo Liang felt like his face had been slapped hard. What ’leader of two departments,’ what ’ten employees’? To put it bluntly, he was just a high-level worker. Before Zhang Wei, he was like an ant.

At the thought of encountering Zhang Wei in the elevator from time to time in the future, the veins on his forehead began to throb. But what could he do?

At this moment, Zhang Wei was far from as happy as Guo Liang imagined. At first, sitting in his luxurious office overlooking the City Name skyline was quite pleasant, but things soon changed.

Since it was his first time at the company, the stack of documents requiring his signature was taller than a person. Additionally, the heads of various departments all wanted to make a good impression on the boss, so they took turns reporting their work to him. No one felt right leaving the Chairman’s office without speaking for at least an hour.

Seeing the commotion, An Xiaoxi slipped away to Chen Jiayan’s office to play games, leaving Zhang Wei alone without even an excuse to slip away.

Soon, the City Name lights began to twinkle. Seeing how proactive everyone was, Zhang Wei, as the boss, certainly had to show his appreciation.

He booked an entire restaurant and treated the employees to a grand meal, using the opportunity to bond with everyone over drinks.

At the table, Zhang Wei uncharacteristically drank quite a bit. By the end, he was completely dizzy; fortunately, Chen Jiayan was there to watch over him, so he didn’t make a fool of himself.

After everyone had their fill and dispersed, Chen Jiayan drove Zhang Wei’s car to drop him and An Xiaoxi off at their building.

”Xi Xi, I forgot to mention earlier, the company’s debut jewelry line has been finalized. Since it’s crowdfunded, there’s no need for advance production. I plan to hold a new product launch at the Hainan Aerospace Administration Bureau next Friday. Remember to remind him to clear his schedule once he wakes up.”

An Xiaoxi indicated she understood; she was also looking forward to Star Jewelry’s first launch event.

Meanwhile, in a residential complex in City Name C, Wang Li was awakened from her sleep by a knock on the door.

Finally getting some beauty sleep only to be disturbed, Wang Li rolled over irritably, not forgetting to kick the man lying next to her.

”Are you deaf? Go see who’s at the door right now! You’re like a block of wood every day.”

The man didn’t dare resist. He hurriedly threw on some clothes, ran to the door, and looked through the peephole. A security guard was standing outside.

The man shouted impatiently, ”What do you want in the middle of the night? Believe it or not, I’ll file a complaint against you!”

The security guard didn’t panic at all, simply saying calmly, ”We’re here to check the water meter.”
