The World's Richest Man: Start with the Daily Intelligence System

113: Chapter 113 Inviting the Enemy into the TrapZhang Wei had told Tang Yi earlier that one project mishap was an accident, two were a coincidence, but three or four were undoubtedly someone deliberately sabotaging things behind the scenes.

However, they had always assumed it was his eldest brother, Tang Zhiyuan, who was masterminding it all. They never expected there was someone else pulling the strings.

One could only say Tang Yi had incredibly bad luck to have such a brother and sister.

Zhang Wei sat up, kissed Sun Yicheng, then got up and left her apartment.

This was a crucial period for Zhang Wei’s career; he couldn’t afford to be overly distracted by romantic pursuits.

While driving back to Jiangnan Garden, Zhang Wei had already formulated the perfect plan. Kong Xiangdong was currently desperate to dig up dirt on Tang Xijun, which gave Zhang Wei the perfect opening. He could handle Tang Yi’s affairs before heading to Hainan.

Upon returning to Jiangnan Garden, Zhang Wei went straight to the bedroom and rudely woke An Xiaoxi. Then, with another phone call, he roused Tang Yi. Under their exasperated gazes, he started a video conference.

Zhang Wei laid out the information he had gathered. When Tang Yi heard that his previous project failures were actually schemes orchestrated by Tang Xijun, he was utterly shaken.

The age gap with his eldest brother was too large, so they had never been close. But his second sister? They had grown up together. Yet, he couldn’t doubt Zhang Wei’s words. For a moment, he was lost in thought.

”Look at it this way, people change,” Zhang Wei sighed, then continued, ”I’ll create a group chat. You just send Kong Xiangdong’s phone number directly. Don’t worry about the rest. Focus on consolidating control within the company. The day you become the heir isn’t far off.”

The three ended the call. Zhang Wei first phoned Zuo Hemei, speaking for over ten minutes before hanging up.

Then, he turned to An Xiaoxi beside him and said, ”Help me set up a voice changer plugin. I need to make a call later.”

An Xiaoxi complained, ”Such a trivial thing! You could find any random Taobao seller to do it. Why do you have to disturb my sleep? I’ve been working on the shopping platform these past two days; my dark circles are so heavy I’m practically turning into a panda.”

”I know you’re working hard,” Zhang Wei said. ”Once that kid Tang Yi is in power, forget just getting Hu Ge’s autograph. He could accompany you to the amusement park for a whole day, no problem.”

Hearing this, An Xiaoxi immediately stopped complaining and scurried off to install the plugin.

Indeed, a woman’s weakness is often a man. And the reverse holds true as well.

At that moment, Kong Xiangdong was pacing back and forth in his office.

Everything had been fine until now. Over the years, he had worked diligently, handling numerous dirty and difficult tasks for Tang Zhiyuan, thus securing his favor and rising smoothly through the ranks. As long as Tang Zhiyuan became the heir, his own position within Tang Sheng Culture would be second only to one, commanding respect from all.

But now, all of that was about to vanish like a bubble. Despite all his precautions, he never expected Tang Zhiyuan would expose himself. Those disgusting clips had been directly posted online. Although they were quickly deleted, the matter was far from over.

In just one day, over a dozen victims had come forward publicly with accusations. Tang Zhiyuan himself had been stripped of his position by the chairman and confined to Sheshan Villa.

This was precisely the fatal blow. Tang Xijun would absolutely not miss this golden opportunity; she would surely target the film and television department. Once Tang Zhiyuan lost power and was sidelined, the only path left for Kong Xiangdong himself would be a reckoning. Thinking of this, he felt as if sitting on pins and needles. Before Tang Zhiyuan could return to the company, he *had* to find a way to bring down Tang Xijun!

”Ring... ring... ring...”

Kong Xiangdong looked at the caller ID—a string of garbled numbers. He thought for a moment and answered, his tone impatient. ”Who is this?”

All he heard from the other end was a deep, mechanical voice: ”Manager Kong, I presume? The accidental explosion on that TV drama was my handiwork. Now that woman wants to kill the goose that lays the golden eggs, but she doesn’t know I have ironclad proof of her framing Tang Yi. If you’re interested, come to Room 706, Kangbo Hotel Apartments to discuss the price. If you’re not here within an hour, I’ll go talk to Tang Yi. I’m sure he’ll be very interested.” With that, the call ended.

Kong Xiangdong was momentarily unsure if it was real or a hoax. Somewhat flustered, he sat on the sofa, forcing himself to calm down.

The accident on that TV drama had been sensational news at the time. As an insider at Tang Sheng Culture, he knew far more about the incident than the public.

For filming explosion scenes, they usually used camera angles and positioning. Even if it looked like the explosion was right behind the actors, creating a life-threatening illusion, the actual distance was always within safe limits. The actors couldn’t possibly be harmed.

Yet, this particular drama had an accident. Someone had mistakenly placed the explosive charges directly in the path where the actors were supposed to walk, leading to the tragedy.

Afterwards, the company conducted an internal investigation, but bizarrely, it turned up nothing. He had suspected back then that someone had secretly erased the relevant evidence. Now, receiving this call... if it was Tang Xijun’s doing, given her capabilities, everything would make sense.

Thinking this, Kong Xiangdong decided to take a gamble. As the saying goes, great wealth comes from great risks. If he could really get hold of Tang Xijun’s weakness, his own position would be secure.

His mind made up, Kong Xiangdong grabbed his car keys and hurriedly left the office.

The whole way, he kept checking the rearview mirror, afraid he was being followed.

Arriving at the Kangbo Hotel Apartments building, Kong Xiangdong craned his neck, peering cautiously into the lobby.

A little past 2 a.m., the lobby of Kangbo Hotel Apartments was deserted. Unlike regular hotels, this place housed long-term tenants on monthly leases. The lobby had an access control system; without a key card, going upstairs was impossible.

Kong Xiangdong considered calling back to say he had arrived. But the caller’s number showed as garbled characters; he couldn’t dial it back.

Just as he was at a loss, a taxi pulled up outside. A drunken man stumbled out, weaving unsteadily straight into the lobby. He took out a key card and swiped it to open the access gate.

Kong Xiangdong quickly took a few steps forward, slipping inside just before the gate closed.

He successfully reached the 7th floor and began searching for Room 706 according to the door numbers.

Now his heart was pounding with anxiety. What if he was caught on camera? He regretted not wearing a mask before coming here so rashly.

He cautiously approached the door of Room 706, took a deep breath, and rang the doorbell.

Sounds of movement came from inside the room, followed by a man’s cursing voice growing louder as it approached the door.

The door opened. Tao Yang stood there, wearing a crumpled T-shirt, looking utterly bewildered at Kong Xiangdong.

”Manager Kong? How... how did you find this place?”

Kong Xiangdong found the man vaguely familiar, recalling he was a staff member from the film crew. He thought to himself, maybe this guy really did have evidence against Tang Xijun.

Half of the weight lifted from his mind. He glanced around. ”Alright, enough pretending. Let’s talk inside.” He then slipped into the room and closed the door behind him.

The entire room looked somewhat messy. Near the trash bin, takeout containers were piled up. Several empty beer cans sat on the coffee table.

Kong Xiangdong plopped down boldly on the sofa. ”Alright, you called, and I came immediately. Now it’s your turn to show some sincerity, right?”

Tao Yang looked completely baffled. ”Manager Kong, who told you to come? Why don’t I understand anything you’re saying?”
