The Evolution of the Weakest Ghoul

Chapter 84: Chapter 84: Complications.., Corporate work 1

Yen blushed all the way to her room, her heart pounding hard as she tightly grasped the necklace around her neck.

---

Meanwhile...

Hesa woke up feeling rather refreshed as she yawned.

This past week had been fun, filled with relaxation and enjoyment.

She had never realized just how tense and mentally exhausted she had been until she experienced what it felt like not to worry about military drills every morning, wake up to her so-called master killing ghouls, or constantly run from vampires hunting them.

”I should probably go see Yen. I wonder how her night went.”

Hesa muttered as she took a bath, got dressed, and went to meet Yen.

Around noon, Ronan finally left his room.

Everything was packed as he waited outside the women’s room, unsure of what to say.

Had Yen told Hesa?

Hesa already disliked him. If she found out that Ronan had done that with her ”sister,” then Ronan was toast.

But then again...

How was he supposed to face Yen?

Would everything return to normal?

Or would the two of them now have to behave like people who were potentially in a relationship?

Click!

The door to Yen’s room opened.

Ronan held his breath, but his eyes widened soon after.

Hesa and Yen stepped out together, both wearing smiles on their faces.

They were even walking hand in hand.

Ronan forced a smile.

”Hey, girls.”

His voice came out slightly shaky.

Damn it.

Hesa would murder him.

Yet Hesa merely gave him that same familiar look as always.

”Master, you’re here. We can leave now.”

Yen spoke with a sweet smile.

Ronan was stunned as he watched the two girls walk away.

Wait...

What just happened?

Don’t tell me what happened that morning had been a hallucination.

No.

Definitely not.

That couldn’t be it.

So what the hell was happening right now?

Ronan desperately wanted an answer, but alas, the two women were already leaving.

---

The trio left the inn and began their journey toward the military base.

Only Ronan’s mind was a complete mess.

He was beginning to doubt himself.

Perhaps he really had been hallucinating.

But how could that be?

If anything, he was a Peak Transcendent Realm Ghoul.

How could he possibly hallucinate?

Yet Yen was walking beside Hesa and chatting with her as if nothing had happened.

Ronan felt a knot form in his heart.

Yes, he had wanted things to remain peaceful between the three of them, but completely pretending that what had happened didn’t happen...

Wasn’t that a little too extreme?

Meanwhile, Yen glanced back at Ronan.

Seeing his distressed expression, she sighed.

It wasn’t that she didn’t want things to change or that she didn’t want to tell Hesa.

But right now, maintaining the harmonious companionship between the three of them was the best choice.

If she and Ronan openly admitted that they had feelings for each other, things would become complicated.

Hesa might also feel left out.

She could only hope that Ronan would understand.

”What are you looking at?”

Hesa suddenly asked, giving her a meaningful, stern look.

Yen coughed.

”Look, he may have treated us nicely, but you should know him for the pervert he is.”

Hesa crossed her arms.

”The other day, I found one of my panties in the men’s bathroom. It was definitely Ronan’s handiwork.”

She spoke with complete confidence.

Yen’s lips twitched.

Are you sure you didn’t simply leave it there after mistaking the men’s bathroom for the women’s bathroom while we were at the spa?

Unfortunately, Yen couldn’t say that.

So she simply nodded in agreement.

The two girls giggled as they decided to keep their distance from their perverted ”Master.”

Meanwhile, Ronan sighed.

It seemed his love life as a Ghoul had been rather short-lived.

He could only accept his fate...

At least for now.

There were more important things to worry about and that was the orc race.

”Are you sure you want to join the military?”

The female soldier in charge of registration asked the trio once again, seemingly unable to believe their decision.

Three adventurers.

One Peak Transcendent Realm expert and two Sovereign Realm experts had volunteered to join the military.

That was extremely unusual.

In fact, before a city could convince adventurers to work for the military, they usually had to empty their vaults and offer extremely lucrative rewards.

Only then would adventurers consider joining.

According to what they had said, if the reward wasn’t in ”points,” then it simply wasn’t worth the hassle.

After all, one hundred points were equivalent to ten gold coins.

If the mayor and military wanted to hire adventurers permanently, they would have to offer thousands of gold coins.

Adventurers were greedy, but there was a reason for it.

Everyone knew how much stronger adventurers were compared to ordinary experts of the same realm.

They took on dangerous missions that ordinary experts would run away from without hesitation.

And that was exactly why the female soldier was so shocked.

”Is there something wrong?”

Ronan couldn’t help but ask, wondering why she was reacting so strongly.

”Ah...”

The woman hesitated.

”Nothing. Please, come this way.”

She hurriedly led the trio into the military base.

Unlike the military bases Ronan had seen in the Destal Kingdom, or the one Hesa had been accustomed to, this place had a completely different atmosphere.

The moment they entered, a heavy atmosphere descended upon them.

The soldiers, whether old or young, were covered in scars.

They carried weapons stained with dried blood.

And their eyes...

They seemed hollow and lifeless.

These were the eyes of people who had experienced war and survived it.

The eyes of people who had watched their loved ones fall dead before them.

The eyes of people whose friends had traded their lives for theirs.

”This....”

Yen didn’t know what to say.

She knew exactly what those eyes meant ....because she had once possessed the same eyes.

They were the eyes of someone who wanted nothing more than revenge.

Eyes filled with anger.

These soldiers were entirely different from the ordinary soldiers they had encountered before.

They were war veterans.

People who had killed even fellow humans and wouldn’t hesitate to do so again.

”Please, go inside. You will meet a commander who will guide you through the procedure.”

The female soldier bowed slightly.

”I wish you luck.”

Sharing this sentiment, Ronan nodded as he looked at the rather familiar building ahead.

It was a tall, glass-like structure that stretched toward the sky.

But the moment Ronan saw it, he trembled.

Wasn’t this the kind of corporate building where employees were worked to death?

Shit.

What was it doing in a fantasy world?

Were they about to be worked to death?
