A Sorcerer’s Journey

Chapter 902: Chapter 894: Chaos Apocalypse

”Hehehehe, all you need to do is hold a stone at midnight, spin twelve times in front of a mirror, and you can summon my arrival to fulfill any wish you can pay the price for...”

Ah!

Situ Mo woke up from a nightmare, drenched in cold sweat.

Beside the worn-out bedding, his exhausted wife woke up and looked at Situ Mo.

”What’s wrong, having that weird dream again?”

His wife asked gently, then glanced at their hungry, frail daughter beside them, wiped her burning forehead, sighed, and covered her with the threadbare cotton quilt, cradling her in her arms.

”Damn it, can’t we get some sleep? What’s all the noise in the middle of the night!”

”First, it’s the little one crying, then it’s the old one making a fuss in the middle of the night. It’s bad enough facing mutant beast attacks outside during the day; now I have to put up with you at night. Damn it, I’m going to ask the military district commander for a room change!”

”Me too!”

The refugees crowded into the small dormitory shouted in discontent.

Since the chaos disaster happened, the world has been polluted by the chaotic miasma, causing all life forms to mutate and evolve. Ironically, the Spirit People, once the rulers of the world, were the least affected by the chaotic miasma, mutating the slowest, and falling behind in the wave of biological evolution. Now they could only survive in various military bases from their once-glorious civilization, which had become refugee camps.

The chaotic miasma rapidly corrodes anything dead, including grain plants and meat products, so every day, the camp residents risk their lives to venture into the dangerous world for food.

However, as time passes, the outside creatures’ mutations and evolutions become more advanced, their Strength more unimaginable and dangerous, causing more people to die each day, becoming food for other creatures, and the refugee population dwindles.

Though some Evolved Humans have appeared among the Spirit People, their numbers are far too few to support the Spirit People’s society.

Everyone secretly discusses that the Spirit People are doomed.

At the very least, this world is no longer referred to as the Spirit People World. In just over a decade, those life forms once considered wild animals by the Spirit People have all developed their own societies, better adapted to the chaotic apocalypse, and are set to replace the Spirit People’s status!

”I’m sorry! I’m sorry! Really sorry, I was just scared during the day, there won’t be a next time, really...”

He kept apologizing and smiling for quite a while before calming everyone’s anger. Situ Mo sighed and held his wife and daughter tightly, touching his feverish daughter’s head.

His heart was bitter.

In the chaotic apocalypse, human life is the cheapest commodity. Situ Mo had seen countless baby girls die. He thought his heart was already numb, but when it happened to his own family...

Situ Mo hated himself, hated being useless, hated not being an Evolved Human who could find more food for his wife or save his daughter’s life, only watching the two suffer and toil with him!

”Go to sleep early, be careful when you go out tomorrow.”

His wife gently comforted Situ Mo, who clenched his teeth, held his wife tighter, and closed his eyes.

...

The next day.

Gray Mist floated in the sky as Situ Mo put on a light leather armor, the standard hunter’s outfit, holding a Blood Groove Knife. He was about to leave the camp with a few refugees to find food but saw dozens of armed soldiers surrounding a large public restroom, and even Evolved Humans were present!

In the chaotic apocalypse, the military might created by the Spirit People, once rulers of this world, were mostly eroded by the chaos fog. Now the base has limited weaponry only, which, besides the Evolved Humans, was the basic assurance of the refugee base’s relative independence in the apocalypse.

”What’s going on?”

One of Situ Mo’s comrades, Big Mouth Liu, with his shifty eyes, asked a man who had been watching for a while.

The base had tens of thousands of people, and what happened daily was about the same, but relatively, the base remained relatively safe due to the Evolved Humans’ presence.

”It’s the sewer maggots mutating. Damn, they say they’re several meters long and don’t know how, suddenly they came out last night. I heard over a dozen died being dragged in, and now two Evolved Humans are investigating the scene. From now on, even going to the toilet requires caution.”

The man spoke with a face full of fear.

Hearing about the several-meter-long maggots dragging people away, Big Mouth Liu turned pale and looked terrible before returning to normal and leaving with Situ Mo and others.

Seven meters of high walls wrapped with coiled barbed wire, with the heaviest weaponry on the Watchtower, guarding against possible dangers from the sky.

Once you step out of this gate, it means leaving the base, and a feeling of insignificance, strangeness, and crisis spreads.

”Be careful; I’ve got a bad feeling about today.”

Before leaving, Meng Zijie murmured, the seasoned expression after years of apocalypse survival was hard not to trust.

...

Half a day later.

The group searching for food in the wild seemed like mice on a pre-apocalyptic street, cautiously stopping every few steps to observe and investigate for any dangers hidden in the mist.

The apocalypse struck, and not only animals but also plants had evolved countermeasures. Ninety-nine percent of plants were extremely poisonous to the Spirit People.

In this world, the group had become the lowest creatures on the food chain, vulnerable to countless creatures out there.

The group arrived in a region they had never visited, but in the apocalypse, the ecological environment changed so quickly that what was one way yesterday could be entirely different today.

”Old Mo, look quickly!”

Yan Nan was extremely excited, trying hard to suppress his voice.

Behind the vine-covered forest was a field of knee-high mushrooms, fleshy and lush. Amazingly, the silver needle showed these mushrooms were non-toxic and edible!

”Oh my, so many, this time we must eat our fill. Be careful and check for any danger.”

Sun Chen, tall and handsome, was once a handsome guy among the Spirit People before the apocalypse, but clearly, the apocalypse is not a world where handsome faces matter.

To survive the apocalypse, he was no idle vase.

”Damn, over there!”

A giant wolf, covered with numerous disgusting muscle tumors, walked over step by step, growling low. Its nearly two-meter-high posture brought a sense of oppression, and even Meng Zijie, the strongest of the seven, couldn’t help but gulp, gripping the Blood Groove Knife tightly in front of him.

From its appearance, you could vaguely tell this giant wolf’s ancestor was probably someone’s pet dog. Now, in the chaotic apocalypse, its descendants evolved into such a monster.

Making a throat-slitting gesture, Yan Nan nodded at everyone and vanished stealthily.

To claim this large mushroom field, none could retreat. Situ Mo’s hardships were a microcosm of everyone present in the apocalypse, even if it meant risking their lives!

Ten minutes later.

The corpses of Meng Zijie and Big Mouth Liu lay silently on the ground. In the chaotic apocalypse, their corpses would soon corrode entirely, leaving nothing behind, accompanied by a giant wolf’s corpse.

”Sigh...”

Yan Nan sighed; his friends had just died like that. In the apocalypse, human life was the cheapest commodity, once creating a brilliant civilization, the Spirit People now had become the bottom creatures of this world’s food chain. A sense of sorrow spread among the remaining few.

”Let’s go, quickly. Their corpses will soon attract other creatures. Gather more mushrooms to take back. Their wives and children still need...”

Situ Mo was speaking when he heard the sound of hooves, quick and near, behind the chaos fog. Suddenly, a group of Giant Apes in Metal Armor rode in on mutant horned horses, eyes fierce and glaring!

This...

There was an Ape-Man Society Clan here!?

Could it be, this giant wolf was their guard dog!?

Run!

In despair, the group fled into the chaos fog, with hundreds of Giant Apes on horned horses shouting and pursuing them from behind.

At least reporting this intel to the military district will earn enough rewards for a hearty meal. (To be continued. If you like this work, please go to Qidian () to vote for recommendations and monthly votes. Your support is my greatest motivation. Mobile users, please visit m. to read.)
