The silence lingered. No one dared to speak. Hundreds of eyes remained fixed on Kael.

The nobles.

The ministers.

The royal family.

Even the foreign ambassadors sitting in the highest gallery had stopped whispering among themselves.

They were waiting.

Waiting to see who would make the next move.

The emperor leaned back against the dragon’s throne.

His face revealed nothing.

Not approval.

Not disappointment.

Only calm.

The kind of calm that made experienced politicians nervous.

Then...

One man stepped forward.

His crimson robes brushed against the polished marble floor.

Unlike Chancellor Roland...

This man wore the insignia of the Imperial Treasury.

The scales of justice crossed by a dragon.

He bowed toward the throne.

”Your Majesty.”

”If I may.”

The Emperor nodded once.

”Speak.”

The minister turned toward Kael.

”I am Minister Cass Volaris.”

”For thirty-seven years, I have served this empire.”

His voice carried throughout the hall.

”Prince Kael...”

”Your words are admirable.”

”Perhaps even inspiring.”

He folded his hands behind his back.

”But empires...”

”...are not governed by ideals.”

”They are governed by reality.”

Several nobles nodded.

Cass continued.

”Today you ask us to trust one goblin.”

”Tomorrow another prince may bring an orc.”

”The next...”

”An elf.”

”The next...”

”A demon claiming peace.”

His sharp eyes locked onto Kael.

”Where does it end?”

Murmurs spread through the court.

It was a reasonable question.

Even nobles who disliked slavery seemed uncertain.

The system appeared.

Debate Analysis

Opponent Strategy:

Slippery Slope Argument

Chance audience accepts argument:

74%

Recommendation:

Redirect discussion toward measurable principles.

Kael dismissed the notification.

He smiled slightly.

”Minister Cass...”

”I agree with you.”

The court looked confused.

Even Cass raised an eyebrow.

”You... agree?”

Kael nodded.

”I do.”

”I would never ask this empire to trust every stranger who walks through its gates.”

Cass frowned.

”Then what exactly are you asking?”

Kael slowly turned.

His eyes swept across the chamber.

”I’m asking the Empire...”

”...to judge individuals.”

”Not races.”

He continued before anyone could interrupt.

”If a human commits murder...”

”Do we execute every human?”

”No.”

”If one noble betrays the Emperor...”

”Do we strip every noble of their titles?”

”No.”

”If one prince commits treason...”

”Do we imprison every prince and princess?”

Again...

”No.”

Kael looked directly at Cass.

”So why...”

”When one goblin commits a crime...”

”Do we condemn an entire race?”

Silence.

The minister’s confident expression weakened slightly.

The Lesson from Another World

Kael paused.

Memories surfaced again.

He remembered reading about nations that had blamed entire groups for the actions of a few.

He remembered wars fueled by fear.

He remembered how easily people accepted prejudice when they were frightened.

”Fear has always been the easiest weapon for politicians.”

”No matter the world.”

He couldn’t tell them those memories came from another life.

So...

He turned them into wisdom.

”My teacher once told me something.”

That wasn’t entirely true.

His ”teacher” had been history itself.

”He said...”

”’When fear chooses your enemy for you...’”

”’You stop thinking like a ruler...’”

”’And start reacting like a frightened man.’”

The words settled heavily over the chamber.

Seraphine Strikes

Princess Seraphine stepped forward again.

”You speak beautifully, brother.”

Her tone remained composed.

”But you’re avoiding the real issue.”

She looked toward Grom.

”This goblin...”

”Where is his loyalty?”

”To you?”

”Or to his race?”

Grom remained silent.

He refused to answer unless ordered.

Kael looked at Seraphine.

”You assume those two things cannot coexist.”

She crossed her arms.

”Can they?”

Kael nodded.

”I remain loyal to this empire.”

”I also remain loyal to our mother’s homeland.”

Several nobles looked surprised.

”I don’t have to betray one...”

”...to respect the other.”

Seraphine narrowed her eyes.

”A dangerous way of thinking.”

”No.”

Kael answered calmly.

”A practical one.”

The Emperor Speaks

For the first time since the debate began...

The Emperor spoke.

”Enough.”

The single word silenced the entire hall.

Even Seraphine immediately stepped back.

Augustus looked toward Grom.

”What is your name?”

The old goblin slowly knelt.

”Grom Ironfang, Your Majesty.”

”Look at me.”

Grom obeyed.

The Emperor’s golden eyes studied him.

”You’ve lived among humans for many years.”

”Yes.”

”You’ve been mistreated.”

”Yes.”

”You’ve been insulted.”

”Yes.”

”You’ve lost friends to human hunters.”

A slight pause.

”...Yes.”

The Emperor leaned forward.

”Then answer me honestly.”

”Why serve my son?”

The question echoed throughout the court.

Everyone waited.

Grom took a slow breath.

When he spoke...

His rough voice carried more emotion than anyone expected.

”I’ve met kings.”

”I’ve met generals.”

”I’ve met merchants.”

”They all saw...”

”...a goblin.”

He looked toward Kael.

”The first time I met Prince Kael...”

”He asked me my name.”

Silence.

”He didn’t ask my race.”

”He didn’t ask what I could earn him.”

”He didn’t ask how useful I was.”

”He asked...”

”...who I was.”

Grom lowered his head.

”I decided then...”

”If one human could see me as a person...”

”I’d spend the rest of my life making sure that man became emperor.”

The chamber fell completely silent.

Not a whisper.

Not a breath.

Even several nobles looked away.

Ashamed.

The System

A familiar blue window appeared.

Hidden Condition Achieved

The Heart of a Leader

Your actions have inspired unwavering loyalty.

Leadership attributes increased.

Charisma: B+ → A-

New Trait Unlocked:

Banner Worth Following

Exceptional individuals are more likely to seek your banner voluntarily.

Kael barely glanced at it.

His attention remained on the throne.

The Emperor slowly stood.

The movement alone caused every noble in the chamber to bow.

His gaze swept across the room.

From Seraphine...

To Cass...

To Grom...

Finally...

To Kael.

”Today’s debate...”

He said in a calm, commanding voice.

”...is not about a goblin.”

The entire court listened.

”It’s about the kind of empire we wish to leave behind.”

He turned to the Grand Herald.

”Summon the Council of Succession.”

Gasps echoed through the chamber.

The princes and princesses stiffened.

Even the ministers looked shocked.

That council...

It was only convened when the balance of power among the royal heirs was about to change.

The Emperor looked at Kael one last time.

”Prince Kael.”

”You’ve given this court something to think about.”

”But words...”

His eyes sharpened.

”...are only the beginning.”

”Now.”

”Show me whether your actions can reshape an empire.”

The Emperor turned and walked behind the Dragon Throne.

The audience was over.

But everyone in the hall understood...

The battle for succession had only just begun
