50 Chapter 50: A Prince’s Argument 2026-11-04

The courtyard remained frozen.

No one breathed.

No one moved.

The greatest general in the Empire...

A man who had rejected emperors, kings, princes, dukes, and legendary noble houses...

Was kneeling before the tenth prince.

The silence was almost painful.

Captain Roland finally found his voice.

”...General...”

”You don’t have to kneel.”

Darius didn’t even look at him.

”My knees have bent only four times in my life.”

”Once before His Majesty.”

”Once before the late Empress.”

”Once before my own father.”

His sharp gray eyes lifted toward Kael.

”And now...”

”...before the future I have waited ten years to see.”

The courtyard erupted into whispers.

”Did he just...”

”...future?”

”What does he mean?”

”Has the general lost his mind?”

Even Edwin stood speechless.

Kael himself looked completely confused.

”I think...”

”...you should stand.”

Darius smiled.

”As you command.”

He rose effortlessly.

Despite appearing to be in his late sixties...

His movements carried the grace of a man half his age.

His body showed no wasted motion.

Every step was deliberate.

Every breath is controlled.

Kael recognized it immediately.

This wasn’t simply an experience.

This was mastery.

Kael gestured toward the manor.

”We should talk somewhere private.”

Darius nodded once.

”I agree.”

The War Room

Blackwood Manor’s council chamber wasn’t impressive.

A large wooden table occupied the center.

Maps of Blackwood covered one wall.

Several ledgers sat stacked neatly beside Edwin.

Compared to the grand halls of the Imperial Palace...

It looked almost humble.

Darius slowly walked around the room.

His eyes lingered on the repaired maps.

The grain reports.

The lists of village supplies.

The construction plans.

Finally...

He smiled.

”So.”

”You truly began with the people.”

Kael looked surprised.

”What did you expect?”

”A prince trying to build himself a palace.”

Instead...

He looked toward the maps again.

”You built a mill.”

Kael poured two cups of tea.

”I figured starving people wouldn’t care how beautiful my palace was.”

A deep laugh escaped Darius.

For the first time in years...

A genuine laugh.

”The Empress said the exact same thing.”

Kael’s hand stopped.

”The late Empress?”

Darius nodded.

”Your grandmother.”

The room became silent.

”I served three generations of the Imperial Family.”

”I watched your grandfather conquer half the continent.”

”I watched your father secure the empire.”

”And...”

”I watched your mother grow into one of the greatest princesses I’ve ever known.”

Kael’s expression hardened.

”My mother.”

Darius noticed immediately.

”There’s resentment.”

Kael didn’t deny it.

”She left.”

No one in the room spoke.

”I was seven.”

”I watched her carriage disappear beyond the palace gates.”

”She never came back.”

His voice remained calm.

Almost too calm.

”I received letters.”

”Gifts.”

”Birthday presents.”

”They meant nothing.”

”When I needed my mother...”

”She wasn’t there.”

Darius quietly closed his eyes.

”I know.”

Kael frowned.

”You know?”

”I was there.”

Everyone in the room turned toward the old general.

”There are truths...”

”...you haven’t been told.”

Kael slowly leaned forward.

”What truths?”

Darius looked directly into his eyes.

”The day your mother left...”

”...she didn’t want to.”

Silence.

Absolute silence.

Even the crackling fireplace seemed to fade away.

Kael stared at him.

”...Explain.”

Darius folded his hands behind his back.

”There was an agreement.”

”An ancient treaty between your father’s empire...”

”...and your mother’s kingdom.”

”When her father died...”

”She became the rightful queen.”

”According to their laws...”

”No foreign king could rule beside her.”

”If she refused the crown...”

”Civil war would have consumed her homeland.”

Kael frowned.

”So...”

”She chose them.”

Darius slowly shook his head.

”No.”

”She chose millions.”

He walked toward the window.

”If she stayed with you...”

”Her kingdom would’ve fractured.”

”Nobles would’ve declared themselves kings.”

”Neighboring nations would’ve invaded.”

”Countless innocent people would’ve died.”

Kael remained silent.

”She begged your father to let you come with her.”

That made Kael’s head snap upward.

”What?”

”Your father refused.”

The room froze.

”He believed...”

”...An imperial prince should be raised in the empire.”

”So they argued.”

”For weeks.”

”Neither surrendered.”

”In the end...”

”They sacrificed their own happiness...”

”...for their people.”

Kael looked away.

His thoughts became a storm.

His entire life...

He had believed one thing.

His mother abandoned him.

Now...

That certainty had begun to crack.

”I still don’t forgive her.”

Darius nodded.

”I didn’t expect you to.”

”Nor should you.”

”Pain doesn’t disappear because you learn the reason.”

He looked at Kael kindly.

”But hatred...”

”...should never be built on lies.”

Before Kael could answer...

The system activated.

”Main Quest Updated”: The Forgotten Truth

Pieces of the past have begun to surface.

Objective:

Discover the truth behind the separation of the Imperial Emperor and the Queen of Aurelia.

Current Progress:

12%

Reward:

Unknown.

Kael dismissed the screen.

His mind wasn’t on quests.

It was on answers.

Darius reached into his cloak.

From an inner pocket...

He removed a small wooden box.

Old.

Weathered.

The Imperial Dragon was carved into its lid.

”I’ve carried this...”

”...for ten years.”

He placed it gently onto the table.

”She gave it to me.”

Kael stared at the box.

”My mother?”

Darius nodded.

”She told me...”

’If my son grows into a man worthy of choosing his own path...’

’Give this to him.’

’Not before.’

The room fell completely silent.

Kael slowly reached toward the box.

His fingers hovered over the lid.

He hesitated.

For the first time since arriving in this world...

He wasn’t the calm strategist.

He wasn’t the future emperor.

He wasn’t the prince rebuilding Blackwood.

He was simply...

A son.

Slowly...

He opened the box.

Inside...

Rested a silver pendant shaped like two dragons circling a rising sun.

Beneath it...

A folded letter.

Written in elegant handwriting.

Across the front were only seven words.

To my son, when you are ready.

Kael’s hand trembled.

Just slightly.

He looked up at Darius.

”...I’m not ready.”

The old general smiled gently.

”I know.”

”You don’t have to read it today.”

”You only needed to know...”

”...she never stopped loving you.”

Outside...

Rain began to fall over Blackwood.

A new chapter of Kael’s life...

Had quietly begun.
