Journey to Planar World

”Mahiru, you... don’t remember who I am?”

Charlie still could not believe what was happening. He rose to his feet from the veranda and stepped forward.

Seeing the strange man begin to move closer, the last remnants of Mahiru’s composure instantly vanished.

With a panicked yet agile movement, she dashed toward the kitchen, snatched a sharp kitchen knife, and immediately aimed it with trembling hands at Charlie.

”I’m warning you, don’t come any closer! I-If you don’t want to get hurt, leave my house right now!”

Her breath was ragged and her eyes were filled with terror.

Charlie: ”😐”

Seeing Mahiru’s defensive reaction, he finally had to accept the bitter reality.

This was clearly not acting.

He had been completely erased from the girl’s memory.

(Even in a different world like this, God’s Law still applies?) Charlie thought in frustration.

The True God in the Planar World of Seirei Gensouki had indeed established a highly restrictive God’s Law upon the Transcendents for crucial reasons related to stability, human free will, and preventing the destruction of the world from the abuse of power.

Among the five binding God’s Laws, one of them dictated that those who reached the Transcendent level would find it difficult to remain in the memories of others.

They could still make direct physical contact with the inhabitants of the world and converse normally, but the memory of those Transcendents’ existence would fade and be erased automatically as soon as they separated or lost visual contact.

Charlie took a deep breath, trying to test the limits of the God’s Law.

”Mahiru, try to think carefully. Don’t you find it strange why you are living in a countryside like this? Try to remember, what was your reason for choosing to move from Tokyo to a remote location far from society like Nagoro?”

Hearing that question, Mahiru opened her mouth, about to give a spontaneous answer.

However, the next second she herself was stunned and shocked upon realizing that she could not answer it.

(That’s true... Why am I in Nagoro? Why did I move here all by myself?)

The inside of Mahiru’s head was suddenly enveloped in confusion.

Simultaneously, a gust of cold wind that broke through from the veranda hit her skin, making Mahiru realize that she was currently wrapped only in a single bath towel in front of a strange man.

She immediately set aside all doubts in her mind and stared sharply once again.

”That’s none of your business! Whatever my reason is, it has nothing to do with a stranger like you! Leave this house immediately, I really will contact the police right now!”

Realizing that all his efforts to snap Mahiru out of it verbally would only be in vain in the face of the absolute God’s Law, Charlie finally stopped trying.

(It’s useless to force Mahiru to remember if the world itself rejects my existence.)

”Alright, I’ll leave. So, lower that knife in your hand, Mahiru. That’s dangerous, you could hurt yourself.” Charlie said in a softening tone.

”...”

However, Mahiru, who was still in a state of high alert, refused to let go of her sole source of security.

”Don’t tell me what to do! Get out now!”

”Okay, okay. I’m leaving.”

Charlie could only give a wry smile. He turned around, picked up his shirt that was lying on the veranda, and then walked away through the expanse of snow, leaving that traditional wooden house without looking back again.

After making sure the figure of the silver-white haired strange man had completely disappeared from the courtyard and the village streets, Mahiru slowly lowered her knife.

She put the sharp knife back in its original place with hands that were still trembling.

She stood frozen in the kitchen, holding her fast-beating chest while feeling bewildered.

Deep inside her heart, a sense of emptiness and loneliness suddenly surged out for no clear reason.

(What... what is actually happening to me? Why does my heart hurt this much?)

Mahiru shook her head vigorously, trying to dismiss that melancholic feeling and assuming it was just an effect of her panic due to the intruder earlier.

She immediately stepped into the bedroom to put on some clothes.

However, the moment she opened the sliding wardrobe door, Mahiru was shocked once again.

In one corner of her wardrobe hangers, there was a row of men’s clothes neatly arranged.

”Eh...? Why are there men’s clothes here?” She murmured in surprise.

After falling silent for a moment, Mahiru tried to find a rational conclusion.

”Ah... maybe these men’s clothes belong to the previous house owner who forgot to take them when renting this place to me.”

Feeling that the explanation was reasonable enough, Mahiru did not think too much about it anymore.

She took a piece of her own warm clothing, closed the wardrobe, and began to dress in the silence of the room that suddenly felt so spacious and cold.

On the other side, Charlie walked aimlessly in silence amidst the snowfall that was falling from the cloudy gray sky.

A cold layer of ice began to accumulate on his shoulders and between the strands of his silver hair, yet he kept stepping casually.

”Haaah... so this is what it feels like to be kicked out by a wife with only the clothes on my back.” Charlie joked to break the silence of the street.

However, after that dry joke was thrown out, his smile gradually faded. He wore a serious expression that he rarely showed.

While staring straight ahead, he murmured with a heavy tone, ”I really underestimated the power of the True God from the Planar World of Seirei Gensouki. After all, the season one and two anime adaptations that I happened to know before only adapted the early volumes of the light novel, where the story had not discussed the True God or the Transcendents at all. So, I didn’t know how strong they actually were.”

Charlie put both of his hands into his pants pockets, feeling the strangeness of this situation.

”But, based on the fact of how absurd the God’s Law is, which is capable of restraining me even in another world separated by dimensions like this, the power of the True God seems to be at a level that is far stronger compared to the gods in Danmachi.”

He continued walking on the whitening asphalt while analyzing the information that had just fused with his soul.

”The True God in that world is the Sole Creator of the entire reality, concepts, and natural laws in his world. Without his presence, that world would never exist. His existence is outside the dimension of space and time of mortal creatures.”

”Meanwhile, the gods in Danmachi are fundamentally not the creators of the world. The lower world (Lower World) and the Dungeon already existed long before they decided to descend to the Lower World. The gods are merely a race of high-level immortal creatures who live in Heaven and possess great power, but they did not create existence itself from nothingness.”

Charlie exhaled, forming a thin white vapor in the cold air.

”Obviously, the gods in Danmachi are below the level of the True God in terms of hierarchy and power. They did not create an absolute system of world laws solely on their own, but rather share power and authority among many other gods.”

”On the other hand, the God’s Law binds my soul inherently as a Transcendent, no matter what planet I stand on.”

Charlie kept stepping, pondering the comparison of strength between the power of a Transcendent that he currently possessed with the gods in Danmachi if they were to use their original forms in Heaven with full Arcanum power.

”Hmm... If the Danmachi gods released their seals and used Arcanum, the battle would definitely become much more balanced and fierce.” He murmured while staring at a snowflake that landed on his palm. ”Even though those gods have an unlimited supply of energy, the type of power belonging to a Transcendent in Seirei Gensouki—specifically the Dragon King—is far more cheating.”

”The Divine Authority of Annihilation is not just a massive energy explosion, but the ability to erase concepts. If a god in Danmachi unleashed magic with their strongest Arcanum, I could directly negate the causality of that attack so that the attack is considered ’never happened’ from the very beginning.”

Thinking about that, Charlie suddenly remembered that he actually already possessed another causality manipulation ability within his Skill list, namely Hundred Gauntlets.

”Come to think of it, Annihilation has a very strong conceptual similarity to the basic ability of Hundred Gauntlets from the Medaka Box series.”

”Both are in the realm of causality manipulation, but possess a crucial difference in how they work and the final outcome. Hundred Gauntlets works by reversing the relationship between cause and effect. If an enemy attacks as the ’Cause’ and wounds the user as the ’Effect’, this ability reverses its causality so that the effect is negated or diverted into ’nothing happened’.”

”Meanwhile, the mechanism of Annihilation is very similar when used for defense. When an enemy launches a devastating attack as a ’Cause’ that destroys the surrounding area as an ’Effect’, I can use the Dragon King’s Divine Authority to totally erase that effect. The destroyed natural landscape will instantly return to being whole as if that attack had never existed.”

”Although similar, the nature of their causality manipulation has a different direction. Simply put, Hundred Gauntlets is to reverse, whereas Annihilation is to erase.”

Charlie smiled thinly in the midst of the winter cold.

”Between the two, clearly Annihilation is superior to Hundred Gauntlets.”

”Hundred Gauntlets is a great causality defense ability to cancel conventional attacks. However, it loses out to Annihilation because the Dragon King’s Divine Authority operates at a much higher level. It is no longer just playing with the rules of cause and effect, but rather erasing the existence of the components that exist within that law of cause and effect.”

”If the two are combined... I myself don’t even know how terrifying the result will be later.”

However, Charlie immediately stopped his long analysis of power theories.

Reality suddenly knocked on his consciousness.

The air temperature around him dropped even further, and the cloudy sky of Nagoro slowly began to darken the atmosphere as time passed.

”Ah... before thinking about power combinations, the most important thing right now is that I must find a temporary place to stay.” Charlie complained while casting his gaze around the quiet streets that were only filled with straw dolls. ”Nagoro is just a small, isolated village. There are no hotels, inns, or commercial facilities here. Where am I supposed to sleep tonight?”

Which aspect of Charlie’s newly awakened Transcendent abilities or his current predicament in the isolated village would you like to explore next?
