Peerless Bodyguard of a Stunning Beauty

When the three beauties saw Zhao Rong, for no apparent reason, pinning the two pitiable siblings to the ground and threatening their lives, they were instantly stunned.

”Brother Zhao Rong, what are you doing?” they asked in bewilderment. ”We came to this village precisely to rescue these two poor, orphaned siblings! But why, after killing those Thousand-Year Tree Demons and avenging them, have you pinned them to the ground? Are you confusing right and wrong? Can’t you tell the good guys from the bad guys?”

Lili immediately stepped forward, pushing Zhao Rong away as she questioned him. ”Brother Zhao Rong, why are you pinning down these seemingly gentle siblings? Are they demons, too?”

Yu Lan stared at Zhao Rong, completely baffled. ”Brother Zhao Rong, what is the meaning of this? Let them go!”

Xuelian was just as confused. ”Brother Zhao Rong, you’ve always had the Eyes of Golden Flame, able to distinguish between humans and demons at a glance. How could you mistake this brother and sister for villains? You must have misjudged them! It’s not too late to fix your mistake!”

The assistant even threw himself in front of the siblings, ripping his shirt open to bare his chest. ”Brother, if you must kill someone, kill me! Just let these two go!”

However, before the assistant could finish his sentence, a wickedly sharp dagger fell from the village beauty’s clothes. He spat out a mouthful of blood and glared at Zhao Rong. ”Zhao Rong, I never expected you to be so difficult to deal with. My brother and I concocted such a grand scheme, yet we failed to deceive you, let alone assassinate you.”

The village beauty’s brother, in turn, dropped a revolver from his pocket. ”I should have done it earlier,” he said, full of regret. ”While Zhao Rong was busy dealing with those Thousand-Year Tree Demons, I should have pulled out my revolver and put two bullets in his back.”

When the three beauties and the assistant heard this exchange, they were shocked speechless. ”Village beauty! You and your brother are repaying kindness with malice?” they exclaimed in disbelief. ”Didn’t you see Brother Zhao Rong eliminate your enemies, the Thousand-Year Tree Demons? How could you harbor such wicked intentions, one hiding a sharp dagger and the other a loaded revolver? Were you planning to assassinate Brother Zhao Rong?”

Yu Lan was horrified. ”So, the village beauty and his brother aren’t good people after all! No wonder Brother Zhao Rong pinned them down immediately. If he had been even a moment slower, he could have been stabbed in the abdomen. His brother could have pulled out the revolver and shot Zhao Rong in the heart! He would have certainly lost his life. Thank goodness Brother Zhao Rong’s reflexes were quick and his actions swift, subduing them both in an instant. Otherwise, the consequences would have been unthinkable.”

Xuelian, equally astonished, questioned the two on the ground. ”Just who are you two? What is your background? Who sent you to assassinate Brother Zhao Rong?”

The assistant glanced from the siblings to Zhao Rong, a wave of fear washing over him. ”Brother Zhao Rong, thank heavens for your Eyes of Golden Flame,” he said with a chilling realization. ”You saw through these villains right away. If it had been me, I would’ve been completely deceived. I’d be lying in a pool of my own blood by now, unable to rest in peace.”

While everyone was still puzzling over the identities of the village beauty and his brother, Zhao Rong tied them up securely.

”You two magic-wielding assassins,” he said with a smile. ”You actually took Wang Jingang’s money to kill me? You should have looked into who you were dealing with. I, Zhao Rong, am a veteran who has weathered countless storms and navigated the underworld for years. Did you really think I could be so easily deceived? Did you think you could pull the wool over my eyes?”

Hearing this, the village beauty sighed in regret. ”If we had known you were so difficult, we never would have taken Wang Jingang’s money. Now, not only have we failed to kill you, but we’ve also forfeited our own lives.”

His brother was equally remorseful. ”If I had known this Zhao Rong was so clever, so formidable, and so perceptive with his Eyes of Golden Flame, we never would have taken such a huge risk. This was truly an impossible mission.”

As the two lamented their failure, Lili turned to Zhao Rong. ”Brother Zhao Rong, what is going on? Please, explain it to us and solve this mystery!”

Yu Lan offered a guess. ”Brother Zhao Rong, these two assassins must have created the illusion of those Thousand Year Old Demons in the village. They used it as a distraction to gain your trust so they could assassinate you when you let your guard down, right?”

Xuelian shook her head in amazement. ”The world is truly full of incredible things—things you can’t imagine, things you can’t do, and things you’d never guess. This village beauty and his brother had us completely fooled. They preyed on our sympathy. Thankfully, Brother Zhao Rong, your Eyes of Golden Flame saw through their deception at a glance. Because of that, you escaped their deadly trap. Otherwise, our team would have been completely wiped out.”

Zhao Rong nodded, confirming their suspicions. ”You’re right. These two are assassins hired by Wang Jingang at a high price, specifically to deal with me.”

”Brother,” Lili asked, ”why would Wang Jingang hire assassins to kill you?”

”Because I’m on a mission from the Chairman to find him and bring him to justice,” Zhao Rong explained. ”He knew that, so he had to hire assassins to eliminate me beforehand. For him, the consequences of me succeeding would be unimaginable.”

Yu Lan nodded in understanding. ”Brother, how did you discover they were assassins trying to kill you?”

Zhao Rong smiled, pulling a small mirror and a comb from his pocket. He calmly combed his hair, tidying it up as he spoke to Yu Lan. ”Because I used this mirror on the village beauty and his brother. From the very beginning, I knew they weren’t human, but monsters. They lured us to this village and created the illusion of the Thousand Year Old Demons purely to confuse us. Thankfully, I used this Monster-Reflecting Mirror to reveal their true forms before they could act.”

When the three beauties and the assistant heard that the siblings weren’t human but monsters, their curiosity peaked. ”Brother Zhao Rong, hurry and tell us! What kind of monsters are they?”
