Peerless Bodyguard of a Stunning Beauty

Zhao Rong picked up where Xuelian left off, continuing the tragic love story.

”When Romeo found his wife, Juliet, frozen into a block of ice, he was immediately overwhelmed with intense guilt. He dug a grave on the spot and buried his wife right there in the Arctic Circle. Afterward, Romeo rejoined the expedition and returned to Alaska.

”However, once back in Alaska, he was plagued by nightmares every night. He dreamed of his ice-frozen wife returning to haunt him, even to take his life. Romeo’s heart was stricken with overwhelming guilt. He deeply regretted his cowardice, abandoning his beloved wife to save his own skin. And so, for more than a decade, Romeo was tormented by this spiritual pain.

”Finally, at dusk one evening, by a bridge near a withered old tree where crows perched, Romeo took his own life to join Juliet in the underworld. Yet, upon arriving in the underworld, he discovered that his wife, Juliet, had not been reincarnated. Instead, she remained in the mortal realm as a ghost.

”Despairing, Romeo chose to reincarnate himself, drinking the Meng Po Soup to forget all his suffering...”

Hearing Zhao Rong’s story, Miss Lili was dumbfounded. ”Brother Zhao Rong,” she said in disbelief, ”are you saying that after Romeo drank the Meng Po Soup, he was reincarnated here in China as the assistant—that repulsive, ugly man?”

Yu Lan couldn’t believe it either. ”Brother Zhao Rong, why would a man as handsome as Romeo reincarnate into the assistant’s body? It’s truly bewildering, completely incomprehensible...”

Zhao Rong explained to her, ”Reincarnation is a random process, beyond human control. Therefore, it was simply unavoidable that Romeo was reincarnated as the sleazy assistant.”

Xuelian seemed to understand now why the assistant had come to the Polar Evil Spirit’s tomb in the middle of the night and dug her up. She turned to Zhao Rong and the other two women. ”Brother Zhao Rong, Sister Lili, Sister Yu Lan, I know now why the assistant was uncontrollably drawn to this grave in the middle of the night to dig up the Polar Evil Spirit, carry her back to his ice house, and sleep beside her.”

Zhao Rong nodded. ”Although Romeo had already drunk the Meng Po Soup in the underworld and been reincarnated as another person—the assistant—deep in his soul, he still felt he owed his wife.

”So, when he was reincarnated as the assistant and, by a twist of fate, came to the Arctic Circle near Juliet’s grave, the soul within him was stirred. He was compelled to dig up Juliet—the Polar Evil Spirit—from her grave and carry her back to his room. Sleeping in the same bed with her was a subconscious attempt to atone for his past failures and the mistakes he had made.”

Hearing Zhao Rong’s explanation, the three women felt the truth had finally been revealed.

Miss Lili said with emotion, ”Now I get why the assistant has such bizarre tastes. It all comes down to karma from his past life.”

Yu Lan continued, ”Because the assistant owed his wife so much in his past life, he wants to compensate her in this one. But since he drank the Meng Po Soup, he can’t remember any of it. So, he chose to fulfill his debt while sleepwalking.”

Feeling a profound sense of sorrow, Xuelian remarked, ”When a man marries a woman, he must treat her with all his heart. After all, a wife is said to be made from a man’s rib. Romeo realized he should have treated his wife well, but by then, it was too late.”

Just as Zhao Rong and the three women had figured out the truth and were preparing to help the assistant, the Polar Evil Spirit suddenly leaped from the assistant’s shoulder. Revealing a horrifying face, she scowled menacingly and shrieked, ”You humans are all evil and shameless! I will keep the assistant here with me, and I will kill the rest of you and all the surrounding Eskimos to be my companions in death!”

When Zhao Rong and the three women saw the formerly ice-stiff spirit spring to life with such terrifying ferocity, they immediately took a step back in fear. ”Oh my god! As the saying goes, ’Heaven’s secrets must not be revealed.’ We spoke the secret aloud, and now she has awakened to take revenge on us.”

”Stay back, everyone!” Zhao Rong said, shielding the women. ”Don’t be afraid. As long as I’m here, I can protect you from this Polar Evil Spirit.”

Just then, the sleepwalking assistant suddenly snapped awake. When he saw the Polar Evil Spirit standing before him, he screamed in terror. ”It’s real! Everything that’s been happening to me is real! After I took the sleeping pills, I really did come to this Polar Evil Spirit’s grave and dig her out!”

”Assistant, we not only believe you,” Zhao Rong told him, ”but we also figured out why you were uncontrollably compelled to come here in the middle of the night and dig this Polar Evil Spirit from her grave.”

Miss Lili added, ”It’s all because of a tragic karmic debt from your past life.”

”Assistant, who would’ve thought?” Yu Lan said. ”You were actually a Caucasian in your past life, not one of us Chinese.”

Xuelian told him, ”Now we know that you’re not just unfaithful in this life; you were even more of a heartbreaker in your last one.”

Zhao Rong put it bluntly. ”Assistant, you need to face the Polar Evil Spirit standing before you. She is your wife from your past life.”

When the assistant heard Zhao Rong claim that the Polar Evil Spirit was his wife from a past life, he was so terrified he collapsed onto the snow. ”Brother Zhao Rong, what are you talking about?” he exclaimed, adamantly denying it. ”How could I possibly be married to such a malevolent spirit? Are you pulling some kind of sick joke?”

Just as everyone was trying to help the assistant understand his past, the Polar Evil Spirit bared her sharp fangs and claws. ”Since you all know the story of my past life with the assistant,” she snarled fiercely, ”I will now kill every single one of you, including this faithless man! He must die here and lie with me forever within the Arctic Circle!”

With that, the Polar Evil Spirit charged toward Zhao Rong and his group.
