Peerless Bodyguard of a Stunning Beauty

The Polar Evil Spirit ignored the assistant’s words and drifted toward him instead.

When the assistant saw the Polar Evil Spirit flying toward him, he was so scared that he wet his pants. He then scrambled back into the ice house and barricaded the door.

Panting heavily, the assistant recalled the terrifying scene he had just witnessed and muttered to himself, ”Damn it! Are you kidding me? Could what the three women said be true—that there’s really a Polar Evil Spirit here in the Arctic Circle, in this world of ice and snow?”

The assistant swallowed hard and then tried to comfort himself. ”It’s okay, don’t be scared. Even if there’s a ghost outside, it can’t get in as long as you stay inside this sturdy ice house. This place is absolutely safe...”

So, the assistant lay down again, ready to go back to sleep. But the image of the Polar Evil Spirit was seared into his mind, and he was so frightened that he just tossed and turned, unable to get any rest.

He tried to reassure himself. It’s okay, just get some sleep. Everything will be fine once the sun comes up. The Polar Evil Spirit will be gone... After all, ghosts are afraid of light, right?

The assistant took a sleeping pill from his pocket and swallowed it. The pill was very effective, and he soon drifted off to sleep. However, when he turned over in the middle of the night, he suddenly woke with a start.

Next to him lay a woman in white clothes with disheveled hair, sleeping with her back to him...

When the assistant saw a strange woman in his ice house, he jumped up in terror. ”Who are you?” he exclaimed. ”How did you just appear in my house out of thin air?”

The woman spoke in a pitiful voice. ”Because... I’m cold...”

A wave of horror washed over the assistant. ”Could you be... the legendary Polar Evil Spirit?” he asked.

The woman in white nodded, then sat up and looked at him. ”Yes,” she said. ”I am the Polar Evil Spirit of this area—the one everyone fears and whose name makes them turn pale.”

So the three women were right, the assistant thought when he heard this. There really is an evil ghost—a Polar Evil Spirit—in this place...

Overwhelmed with fear, the assistant asked, ”If you’re the evil ghost of this area, the Polar Evil Spirit, then how did you get into my room?”

The Polar Evil Spirit replied, ”You’re the one who went out in the dead of night, dug me up from my snowy grave, and carried me back here to lie beside you. Have you already forgotten?”

Hearing the Polar Evil Spirit’s words, the assistant broke out in a cold sweat. ”Are you joking?” he said, his voice full of disbelief. ”I’ve been terrified of ghosts since I was a child. I’m a complete coward! How could I possibly go out into this frozen wasteland in the middle of the night, find your grave, dig you up, carry your corpse back to my ice house, and then sleep in the same bed with you? That’s just not my style!”

Seeing that the assistant didn’t believe her, the Polar Evil Spirit laughed. ”If you don’t believe me, I’ll leave now. But when you wake again in the dead of night, you’ll find me right beside you...”

A chill ran down the assistant’s spine. ”I don’t believe your nonsense,” he said. ”If you’ve got the guts, leave right now. We’ll conduct an experiment and see if you really show up in my room later...”

Hearing this, the Polar Evil Spirit immediately left.

After the Polar Evil Spirit was gone, the assistant immediately took the Peach Wood Sword from his pocket and placed it by the door. He then arranged the exorcising mugwort he had around the ice house to prevent the evil ghost from returning to him in the night.

Still not reassured, he took out his phone, placed it in a corner, and started recording. ”This is to prove the Polar Evil Spirit is sneaking into my room in the middle of the night,” he muttered to himself. ”I’m putting my phone here to get hard evidence. Her lies will fall apart, and I’ll clear my name...”

After preparing everything, the assistant lay down to sleep again. However, he was terrified and still just tossed and turned, completely unable to rest.

I should go find Zhao Rong and the three women for help... he thought. But then he remembered all the harsh things he’d said and how he’d postured in front of them, and he was too embarrassed to face them now.

So, the assistant took another sleeping pill from his pocket and lay down on the bed. This will definitely help me sleep soundly, he thought as he drifted off. I’ll just wait until sunrise, then I can tell Zhao Rong and the three women about all the strange things that happened tonight...

With that thought, the sleeping pill took effect, and he quickly fell into a deep slumber.

After sleeping for a while, the assistant opened his eyes, thinking it must be nearly dawn. But when he saw that the night was still dark and sunrise was still a long way off, he couldn’t help but feel a pang of disappointment.

As the assistant turned over, he was horrified to discover the woman in white with disheveled hair lying next to him again.

Startled, the assistant leaped out of bed and scrambled into a corner. He stared at the woman in horror, his voice trembling as he spoke. ”Polar Evil Spirit! How did you get in my room again? And how dare you shamelessly sleep next to me? Am I really so handsome that even you are drawn to me?”

Hearing this, the Polar Evil Spirit looked wronged. ”It was you who went out in the middle of the night, found my grave, dug me up, carried me back, and laid me down beside you,” she explained. ”And now you’re falsely accusing me of coming here on my own?”

The assistant saw her aggrieved expression and frowned in disbelief. ”Polar Evil Spirit, to prove my innocence, I’m going to get the phone I left in the corner and play back the video I recorded. Then the truth will be revealed!”

As he spoke, the assistant retrieved the phone from the corner, stopped the recording, and opened his gallery to check the video. ”I’m going to play this video for you right now, Polar Evil Spirit,” he declared. ”This will prove I’m innocent...”

But as he fast-forwarded through the footage, he was stunned to see himself actually sit up in the middle of the night. Then, like a pangolin, he slowly crawled out of the ice house...
