Peerless Bodyguard of a Stunning Beauty

Zhao Rong looked at everything before him and took a sharp breath. Under no circumstances can I stay in this village any longer. If I keep staying here and seeing these inconceivable, astonishing things, I’ll truly go insane...

Just then, the village belle standing beside him sighed and said to Zhao Rong, ”Big Brother, the people of our village are in great pain because we have memories of our past lives. We don’t want to have them either, but for some reason, everyone born in our village does. Yet, the people born in the village right next to ours, just a short distance away, are perfectly fine. They don’t have these so-called past-life memories at all. The two villages are so close, yet our situations are completely opposite. It’s truly baffling...”

Miss Lili felt great sympathy for the village belle. ”Miss,” she said, ”since everyone in your village suffers from these memories, have you ever tried to find out why? Have you tried to eliminate them completely so you can all escape this pain and start fresh with a wonderful new life?”

Hearing Miss Lili’s words, the village belle replied helplessly, ”Ma’am, the people of our village have been trying for generations. We’ve tried every possible method to relieve everyone of this suffering, but nothing has worked...”

Seeing the village belle’s distress, Yu Lan turned her gaze to Zhao Rong. ”Village Belle, don’t be sad,” she said. ”Since we’ve come to your village, our team leader, Big Brother Zhao Rong, will definitely be able to help you find the answer and free you from this pain.”

Xue Lianmei also comforted the village belle. ”Village Belle, rest assured. Our Big Brother Zhao Rong can ascend to the heavens and delve into the earth. He’s capable of anything. He can not only defeat the various demons and monsters on Earth but can also vanquish aliens from across the universe. So, you can relax. Now that Big Brother Zhao Rong is here, he will certainly solve your village’s mystery. He’ll help you all drink Meng Po Soup during reincarnation so you can forget your past lives, start anew, and live happily ever after.”

Upon hearing the words of Yu Lan and Xue Lianmei, the village belle immediately turned to Zhao Rong. With pleading eyes, she said, ”Big Brother Zhao Rong, since these two ladies say you possess such extraordinary abilities... I beg you, please help our village solve its mystery and relieve us all of this suffering.”

Zhao Rong listened to the village belle, then glanced at Miss Lili, Yu Lan, and Xue Lianmei standing beside him. Feeling pressured, he reluctantly accepted the task. With a sigh of resignation, he said, ”Alright. Since everyone has such high hopes for me, I’ll help you people find out why you remember your past lives. Then, I’ll help you get back to living normal lives.”

When the village belle heard that the man before her had agreed to help her village find the answer and end their suffering, she was so overcome with emotion that she immediately knelt on the ground. ”Big Brother Zhao Rong, I am so deeply grateful,” she said. ”Your arrival has brought our small village hope for the future and the will to see another dawn.”

With that, the village belle led Zhao Rong’s group into her home. She had them sit in the large inner room to warm themselves by the stove. ”Everyone, please sit here by the fire and warm up,” she said. ”I’ll go make you some steaming hot noodles right away.” Then, she bustled off to the kitchen.

As Zhao Rong and his group gathered around the stove, a comforting warmth spread through their bodies. While warming himself, Zhao Rong observed the house’s decor and felt as if he had traveled back to the 1980s.

Miss Lili also noticed the room’s peculiarity. Looking at the newspapers pasted on the walls, she saw the date was 1984. Yu Lan, meanwhile, was looking at the celebrity posters and was surprised to find one from the ’80s for the movie *Manhunt*, starring the famous Japanese actors Takakura Ken and Mayumi. Xue Lianmei then spotted a Forever-brand heavy-duty bicycle propped against the wall. ”Oh my gosh, what era is this?” she said, bewildered. ”Who still rides such an ancient bicycle? It must be incredibly heavy and hard to get started.”

Seeing all this, Zhao Rong exclaimed in surprise, ”Miss Lili, Yu Lan, Xue Lianmei, Assistant, do you think we might have accidentally traveled back to the 1980s when we used the solar-powered Instant Teleportation bracelet?”

Miss Lili shook her head. ”I don’t think that’s possible, Big Brother Zhao Rong,” she said. ”When we first arrived, I saw propaganda slogans at the village entrance, and they were clearly from after the year 2000. So I think this is the present, not the ’80s.”

Yu Lan, however, disagreed with Miss Lili. She thought they might have traveled to the past and said to Zhao Rong, ”Big Brother, look at the newspapers on the wall. The news is from 1984. And look at that movie poster—it’s for *Manhunt*, starring Takakura Ken and Zheng Youmei. That was an incredibly popular movie imported to the Huaxia mainland from Japan in the ’80s. I think it’s very likely we’ve traveled from 2019 to the 1980s, probably even to 1984.”

Just then, Xue Lianmei found something that seemed to confirm their suspicions. She stood up, walked over to the window, and spotted a banknote on the floor. Picking it up, she called out, ”Everyone, come look at this bill! We stopped using this kind of currency ages ago. I only remember seeing bills like this when I was a child because we have new money now. Finding this here... it must mean we’ve traveled back to the 1980s!”

Just as they were all wondering if they had truly traveled through time, the village belle came in carrying a large tray with five bowls of steaming hot noodles. She smiled and said, ”Time to eat, time to eat! Come on, everyone, dig in. I made these noodles myself. They’re delicious, so please try them and tell me what you think.”
