Peerless Bodyguard of a Stunning Beauty

Before Zhao Rong could finish, his assistant immediately cut him off. ”Zhao Rong, I’m certain the Polar Evil Spirit isn’t a fox spirit. It’s a malevolent ghost...”

Curious, Zhao Rong asked, ”How can you be so sure it’s a malevolent ghost?”

The assistant recalled what he had experienced the previous night. ”Think about it, Zhao Rong. I’m the one who dug that woman out of a grave. When people die, do they turn into fox spirits? No, they become malevolent ghosts!”

However, smelling the strong, musky odor that filled the room, Zhao Rong asked in confusion, ”But why does your ice house reek of fox?”

”Zhao Rong, that’s not the smell of a fox,” the assistant explained. ”That’s body odor.”

Hearing this, Zhao Rong frowned. ”Assistant, I don’t remember you having body odor. Where is this smell coming from?”

The assistant told him, ”In this world, only East Asians don’t have body odor. White people and black people all have it. It’s especially strong on those beautiful women from Eastern and Western Europe. They look stunning, with fair skin and tall figures, but their body odor is so potent that most people can’t stand it.”

Listening to this explanation, Zhao Rong asked curiously, ”So you’re saying the Polar Evil Spirit that came to your room last night was a white woman?”

The assistant said thoughtfully, ”All I know is that the Polar Evil Spirit wasn’t an Inuit, one of us Chinese, Siberian, or any other kind of East Asian.”

Intrigued, Zhao Rong asked, ”Assistant, could it be that you were a white explorer in a past life?”

Hearing Zhao Rong’s bizarre question, the assistant felt it was completely off-topic. ”Zhao Rong, what are you talking about? That seems a bit far-fetched.”

Could it be, Zhao Rong speculated, that in his past life, my assistant was a white explorer who came to the Arctic for an adventure with his girlfriend? But because of the cold, they lost their way or ran out of food and got trapped in the snow... And this fellow, to save his own skin, abandoned her. So now, in this life, when he stumbled into the Arctic Circle by a twist of fate, the girlfriend he abandoned is haunting him...

As Zhao Rong’s imagination ran wild, the assistant suddenly spoke, his voice tense. ”Brother, this is bad! I feel the Polar Evil Spirit... she’s coming!”

Seeing the terror on the assistant’s face, Zhao Rong frowned and glanced at the pitch-black sky outside. ”Assistant, how do you know the Polar Evil Spirit is about to arrive?”

Relying on his sharp sixth sense, the assistant explained, ”Zhao Rong, not only do I feel sleepy, but I can also smell that body odor again...”

With that, the assistant pulled a bottle of sleeping pills from his pocket. When Zhao Rong saw he was about to take them, he lunged forward and snatched the bottle from his hand. ”Assistant, what do you think you’re doing?”

”Zhao Rong, if I don’t take these, I can’t fall asleep,” the assistant explained. ”And if I don’t fall asleep, the Polar Evil Spirit can’t get into my ice house.”

He then snatched the sleeping pills back from Zhao Rong, tossed two into his mouth, and swallowed them. After taking the pills, he lay down in the ice house, leaned against the wall, slowly closed his eyes, and began to snore as he drifted off to sleep.

The moment the assistant was asleep, Zhao Rong took out his Invisibility Cloak and put it on, vanishing from sight. Hidden in a corner, he widened his eyes and stared intently at the doorway, watching for any movement and awaiting the arrival of the so-called Polar Evil Spirit.

However, Zhao Rong waited from ten p.m. until two in the morning, but the spirit never appeared. He was starting to feel drowsy. Just as his eyelids were drooping with sleep, something astonishing happened.

The assistant, who had been snoring soundly, suddenly sat up. After getting dressed, he stood, opened his eyes wide, unlatched the door, and walked out. When Zhao Rong saw him leave, he quickly followed.

Just like that, the assistant led the way while Zhao Rong, cloaked in invisibility, trailed behind.

The night was frigid, and the wind blew hard. Even though Zhao Rong was wearing a bearskin coat, he shivered from the biting cold. The assistant walked quickly, his pace accelerating until he broke into a run. Zhao Rong hurried to keep up, afraid of losing him.

They ran for what felt like an eternity before suddenly stopping in front of a grave. The assistant immediately dropped to his knees and stared blankly at the mound of earth.

Zhao Rong stepped forward and read the words carved on the tombstone:

Tomb of My Beloved Wife, Juliet

He looked from the grave to the Northern Lights shimmering in the distance and the stars twinkling brightly in the sky. He couldn’t help but sigh, ”The Arctic is a truly magical place. Not only are you closer to the sky, but even the stars shine much brighter.”

But just as Zhao Rong was admiring the aurora, the assistant suddenly began clawing at the grave with his bare hands. The assistant, who was usually as timid as a turtle in its shell, was now acting with incredible boldness, frantically digging. Zhao Rong was stunned by the sight.

He stood to the side, watching his assistant, and thought, Is this guy really sleepwalking?

Before Zhao Rong could finish the thought, the assistant had already unearthed the coffin and pried it open. Zhao Rong stepped closer and saw for himself what lay inside: a woman in a white dress, her face completely obscured by her disheveled hair. The image immediately reminded him of the assistant’s description from that morning.

Zhao Rong gasped. He took out his phone, opened the video camera, and began recording the assistant pulling the woman from the coffin. ”Assistant,” he said, his voice steady, ”I’m taking a video right now so you can see for yourself. You’re the one who dug this ghost, this Polar Evil Spirit, out of her grave. You carried her back to your room and slept in the same bed with her.”
