Peerless Bodyguard of a Stunning Beauty

Listening to his assistant, Zhao Rong thought for a moment, then said, ”Assistant, I have an idea we could try...”

When the assistant heard Zhao Rong had a plan, he grew excited. ”Brother Zhao Rong, what is it? Tell me quickly!” Brother Zhao Rong must have some brilliant plan to help me get rid of that Polar Evil Spirit...

However, when he heard Zhao Rong’s idea, an embarrassed sweat beaded on his forehead. Zhao Rong looked at him with a serious expression and said, ”Assistant, how about you act as the guinea pig again?”

Hearing that Zhao Rong actually wanted him to be a guinea pig, the assistant asked reluctantly, ”Brother Zhao Rong, aren’t you just setting me up?”

”Assistant, it’s only by having you act as the guinea pig that I can help you,” Zhao Rong explained. ”It’s the only way to capture the Polar Evil Spirit and figure out if it’s a ghost, a monster, or a human. Then, we can finally get to the bottom of this mystery.”

Just then, the three women woke up. When they heard about the assistant’s strange ordeal from the previous night, they were stunned into silence.

”I can’t believe things like this actually happen in the world,” Lili said in disbelief. ”It completely shatters my worldview...”

Yu Lan, however, seemed to admire him. ”Assistant, I always knew you had strange tastes, but I never imagined they were *this* extreme. You actually dug up the Polar Evil Spirit from its grave, brought it back to your room, and slept in the same bed with it? That’s just insane.”

Xuelian’s imagination ran wild as she guessed, ”Assistant, there must be some kind of unspoken, mysterious connection between you and this Polar Evil Spirit. Otherwise, why would it come looking specifically for you? Why not Brother Zhao Rong, or the three of us?”

Hearing the women’s theories, the assistant replied helplessly, ”This is the first time in my entire life I’ve ever been to the Arctic Circle. How could I possibly be connected to some local female ghost? That’s absurd!”

Zhao Rong stepped forward. ”Assistant, if you’re willing to be the guinea pig, I’ll help you. If not, then you can just keep waiting for the Polar Evil Spirit to harass you every single night.”

The assistant listened to Zhao Rong’s words and considered his options. It will still take us over a week to reach the North Pole from here. If that Polar Evil Spirit harasses me every night for a week... that would be unimaginably terrifying. It could kill me...

After thinking it over, the assistant decided to compromise. ”Alright, Brother Zhao Rong,” he said. ”I’ll be your guinea pig. But you have to promise me you’ll take care of the Polar Evil Spirit. You can’t let it keep coming after me and harassing me every night.”

Zhao Rong laughed. ”As long as you agree to be the guinea pig, I guarantee I’ll handle the Polar Evil Spirit for you.”

Hearing this, the assistant asked curiously, ”Fine, Brother Zhao Rong. So tell me, what’s the plan? How do I act as the guinea pig and cooperate with you?”

Zhao Rong explained his plan confidently. ”It’s simple, Assistant. Tonight, I’ll go with you and stay in your ice house. However, I’ll be wearing the Invisibility Cloak and hiding in a corner. You will sleep in your room as usual. Wait until the dead of night, and then go dig up the Polar Evil Spirit from its grave and bring it back. I want to see for myself what kind of evil spirit this thing really is.”

When the assistant realized Zhao Rong wanted him to relive the horror of the previous night, a cold sweat broke out on his forehead. ”Brother Zhao Rong,” he said, terrified, ”couldn’t someone else go through what I did last night? That whole ordeal was absolutely terrifying.”

Hearing this, Zhao Rong gestured toward the three women and said bluntly, ”Assistant, are you suggesting one of them should take your place and experience that terror? Have you no shame? You’re a man, and they’re women!”

The assistant relented once more. ”Fine, Brother Zhao Rong. I’ll go through that terrifying, bizarre, and unbelievable experience again.”

「Soon, night fell again.」

As Zhao Rong prepared to follow the assistant to his ice house to lie in wait for the Polar Evil Spirit, the three women looked on with concern. ”Brother Zhao Rong, please be careful tonight,” they urged. ”After all, the Inuit said the Polar Evil Spirit is a terrifying ghoul that can hurt people.”

Zhao Rong reassured them, ”Don’t worry. I have the Invisibility Cloak. Even if the spirit comes, it will only see the assistant. It won’t be able to see me at all.”

Lili, however, was still worried. ”But can’t ghosts detect people by their scent?”

Zhao Rong took out the Invisibility Cloak to show her. ”Lili, this isn’t just any ordinary invisibility cloak. It doesn’t just hide my body; it also completely blocks my scent from the air. So, don’t worry. The Polar Evil Spirit won’t be able to smell a thing.”

Yu Lan looked Zhao Rong up and down and gave him a final reminder. ”Brother Zhao Rong, if you see the Polar Evil Spirit in the middle of the night and realize you can’t handle it, just pretend you haven’t seen anything. Don’t engage. Remember, safety first.”

Zhao Rong nodded. ”Don’t worry, Yu Lan. I know my limits.”

Xuelian handed two bottles of her treasured pepper spray to Zhao Rong, looked him in the eyes, and said, ”Brother Zhao Rong, take these. If you get into trouble, they might offer some protection.”

Zhao Rong accepted the two bottles from her, tucking them into his pocket. He then gave her a hug and said, ”Thank you, Xuelian. Although pepper spray probably doesn’t work on ghosts, I’ll take them anyway. You never know, they might come in handy at a critical moment.”

With that, Zhao Rong bid farewell to the three women and followed the assistant toward his nearby ice house, a surprisingly large structure that looked dark and terrifying.

The moment Zhao Rong stepped inside, he was hit by a foul, musky smell.

Sniffing the air, he turned to the assistant in surprise. ”Assistant, the Polar Evil Spirit you encountered last night... could it be an Arctic fox that has become a fox spirit?”
