Peerless Bodyguard of a Stunning Beauty

As the Polar Evil Spirit charged, Zhao Rong immediately stepped in front of the three women and warned it, ”Polar Evil Spirit, I know you are a malevolent ghost. I also know about your past and present lives. We don’t want to harm you, so please, don’t harm us.”

Ignoring Zhao Rong’s warning, the Polar Evil Spirit spoke with arrogance. ”I despise this world, and I hate all humans even more. Anyone who knows my secret must die...”

Watching the spirit’s vicious display, Lili turned to Zhao Rong in terror. ”Brother Zhao Rong, we really shouldn’t have come to the Arctic Circle! This place is not only freezing and deserted, but now we’ve run into a malevolent ghost like this. We must have lifetimes of bad luck...”

Yu Lan, also frightened, added, ”Brother Zhao Rong, this Polar Evil Spirit is clearly no ordinary ghost. What should we do? Do we retreat or fight?”

Xuelian suggested directly, ”Brother Zhao Rong, don’t you still have that ghost-beating stick and robot dog you used on lesser ghosts? You can use those two secret weapons to deal with this Polar Evil Spirit!”

The assistant, pale with fright, chimed in, ”Brother Zhao Rong, quickly! Get out the ghost-beating stick and the robot dog to deal with this thing! It’s the one that’s been tormenting me, giving me sleepless nights...”

Zhao Rong watched the Polar Evil Spirit’s relentless advance. Steeling himself, he gave one final warning, ”Polar Evil Spirit, I’m warning you. If you don’t back down now, I will use the ghost-beating stick and the robot dog against you.”

However, no matter what Zhao Rong said, the spirit continued its advance, baring its sharp fangs and claws as it prepared to kill them. ”I am a ghost of the Arctic Circle. In this world of ice and snow, I am lonely and isolated. Since the five of you have trespassed into my forbidden territory, you can forget about leaving. Just stay here and keep me company...”

When Zhao Rong saw his warnings were having no effect, he immediately summoned the ghost-beating stick. ”Polar Evil Spirit, I was prepared to spare you on account of your tragic past. But you’ve shown nothing but arrogance and have rejected my mercy. It seems I have no choice but to send you to your next reincarnation.”

With that, Zhao Rong swung the ghost-beating stick, smashing it down toward the Polar Evil Spirit’s head.

When the three women saw him strike, they fully expected one blow would be enough to fell the spirit. After all, they had witnessed the power of the ghost-beating stick before.

To their complete shock, however, when Zhao Rong’s stick connected with the Polar Evil Spirit, it had no effect whatsoever and actually rebounded off the creature.

Lili’s eyes went wide at the unbelievable sight. ”Brother Zhao Rong, that’s impossible! Your ghost-beating stick... it has no effect on this Polar Evil Spirit?”

Yu Lan was equally astonished. ”Brother Zhao Rong, if the ghost-beating stick doesn’t work, then your only option is the robot dog!”

Xuelian had an even better idea. ”Brother Zhao Rong, I think you should use the ghost-beating stick and the robot dog together! A two-pronged attack will surely be effective if you hit it with everything you’ve got.”

When Zhao Rong saw his ghost-beating stick strike the spirit as if it were hitting a sponge, he too was stunned. ”Polar Evil Spirit,” he said, ”I never imagined you were a ghost with such boundless mana...”

The Polar Evil Spirit showed no fear of the weapon and simply sneered, ”You humans are still far too green to kill me.”

Zhao Rong swallowed hard, then retrieved the robot dog from his Magic Ring to use in concert with the stick. ”I refuse to believe it!” he declared. ”Can’t my ghost-beating stick and robot dog together handle a single Polar Evil Spirit?”

Back when I had to save my assistant from the underworld, I used the ghost-beating stick and robot dog against Black and White Impermanence and even Oxhead and Horseface. If they could handle deities from the underworld like that, they should definitely be able to handle this Polar Evil Spirit.

But to his dismay, even with the robot dog and ghost-beating stick working in tandem, he couldn’t make a dent in the Polar Evil Spirit.

”Polar Evil Spirit, what in the world are you?” Zhao Rong exclaimed in shock. ”How is your mana so incredibly powerful?”

When the assistant and the three women saw that even the combined force of the robot dog and ghost-beating stick was useless, they were so shocked they collapsed into the snow.

The assistant stared in disbelief. ”Brother Zhao Rong, back when the three ladies accidentally sent me to the eighteenth layer of hell with that time-space translocator, you charged in with the ghost-beating stick and the robot dog to rescue me! Your weapons were incredibly effective even in the depths of hell. So why are they useless against this Polar Evil Spirit now? Could its mana possibly be greater than that of Oxhead and Horseface or Black and White Impermanence?”

Lili carefully studied the spirit and came to a conclusion. ”Brother Zhao Rong, I don’t think this is just a malevolent ghost. It’s more like a king among ghosts, one that has been enhanced with incredible mana.”

”Brother Zhao Rong,” Yu Lan reminded him, ”to deal with this thing, your only option might be to open the Paradise Shopping Cart app on your phone. You’ll have to use the advanced weapons in there to fight this ghost king with its boundless mana!”

Xuelian, meanwhile, had opened WeChat and was using its scan function on the spirit, trying to get information. ”Every explorer who’s ever come to the Arctic Circle mentions two types of monsters in their memoirs: the Yeti and the Polar Evil Spirit. We’ve already found, captured, and solved the mystery of the Yeti. Now, we should capture this Polar Evil Spirit, bring it back to the mainland, and hand it over to the proper agencies to study its internal composition.”

Before the three women could finish speaking, a package suddenly fell from the sky, landing right in Zhao Rong’s arms.
