Peerless Bodyguard of a Stunning Beauty

When the assistant heard Xuelian, he said peevishly, ”Fine! I’ll stay by myself! It’s no big deal...” With that, he walked out of the igloo the Eskimos had built.

When Zhao Rong saw the assistant storm out, he called after him worriedly, ”Assistant, you should come back! It’s freezing out there. You don’t know how to build an igloo; you’ll freeze to death if you stay outside...”

As he spoke, Zhao Rong started to go out and pull the assistant back inside. However, just as he reached the entrance and was about to crawl out, Lili grabbed his arm. ”Brother Zhao Rong, this igloo barely fits the four of us,” she urged. ”If you bring the assistant back, it’ll be way too crowded with five people...”

Yu Lan chimed in, ”Brother Zhao Rong, don’t worry about his safety. That assistant is a clever one. He’ll definitely find the Eskimo Chieftain and get him to help build another igloo. He’ll have a much better time in his own private room than we will, all crammed in here...”

Xuelian also advised him, ”Brother Zhao Rong, just leave him be. We should hurry and get some proper rest. We have to be on the road early tomorrow morning...”

After hearing what the three women said, Zhao Rong thought it over and had to agree. Considering the assistant’s cleverness and cunning, he probably wouldn’t be foolish enough to sleep out in the frozen wasteland. He would certainly find the Eskimo Chieftain, get help building an igloo, and have the whole place to himself. So, Zhao Rong lay down to sleep.

But just as Zhao Rong and the three women were settling in, the Eskimo Chieftain suddenly knocked on the entrance, poked his head in, and offered a friendly warning. ”Friends, the Polar Evil Spirit appears every night, so you must be careful. Even if you’re just stepping out to use the latrine, you must go in a group. Otherwise, the consequences will be unimaginable...” With that, the Eskimo Chieftain smiled at Zhao Rong and the women, then left.

When Zhao Rong and the women heard that there was a Polar Evil Spirit in this land of ice and snow, they exchanged baffled looks, having no idea what that could possibly be.

Lili racked her brain. ”The Polar Evil Spirit... could it be some kind of ghost?”

Yu Lan shook her head, offering her own guess. ”I think it’s probably some unknown creature, like the Yeti...” She then took out her phone, looked up information about the Polar Evil Spirit, and said, ”Well, if what I’m reading online is correct, the Polar Evil Spirit is, in fact, an evil ghost...”

Hearing this, Zhao Rong suddenly grew worried for the assistant. ”If this evil ghost, the Polar Evil Spirit, really does appear at night, isn’t it a bit unsafe for the assistant to be all alone in his own igloo?”

Just as Zhao Rong voiced his concern, the assistant’s head popped in from outside. He wore a cheeky grin and said, ”So, you three ladies didn’t want me staying in this igloo, huh? Well, let me tell you, I just built a much bigger igloo with the Eskimos. I’ve got the whole place to myself, and it’s fantastic...” He finished with a proud expression, clearly waiting for the women to express their envy.

However, as the assistant puffed out his chest, Lili offered a kind warning. ”Assistant, we just heard from the Eskimo Chieftain. He said there’s an evil ghost in this snowy region called the Polar Evil Spirit. You must be very careful staying in that igloo alone.”

Yu Lan, trying to spook him, added, ”Assistant, just you wait. In the dead of night, an evil ghost will sneak into your igloo and scare you to death!”

Xuelian handed him a Peach Wood Sword. ”Assistant, if the Polar Evil Spirit comes for you, use this to defend yourself.”

Although the three women meant well, the assistant was convinced they were just jealous of his larger igloo and were making things up to scare him. Looking at them, he said deliberately, ”I have a clear conscience, so I have nothing to fear. I’ve never done anything wrong in my life, so I’m not afraid of any ghosts knocking at my door. Even if a Polar Evil Spirit walks into my igloo in the middle of the night, I won’t be scared!”

With that, the assistant squared his shoulders and strutted off proudly.

When the women saw that he not only ignored their well-intentioned warning but also mocked them for it, they said angrily, ”That assistant serves him right! Let him wait for the Polar Evil Spirit to scare him to death tonight...”

Zhao Rong sighed and said regretfully, ”Some people have to learn things the hard way. It looks like we’ll be hearing that guy scream in the middle of the night again.”

After leaving the igloo of Zhao Rong and the women, the assistant went straight to the one he had just built with the Eskimos. He crawled inside, stretched out his limbs, and lay down, relishing the space.

Zhao Rong, Lili, Yu Lan, Xuelian... the four of them are all squeezed into that tiny igloo. Isn’t it horribly cramped? Look at me, all alone in this huge igloo. This is the life!

With that thought, he closed his eyes, ready for sleep.

However, just as his eyes were shut, he suddenly remembered the women’s warning about some Polar Evil Spirit. Alone in this unfamiliar igloo, he felt a flicker of fear. Still, he tried to reassure himself.

I’m a grown man, what’s there to be scared of? If a female ghost shows up, I’ll just pin her to the bed right then and there. If it’s a male ghost, I’ll send him flying with a single kick...

With that, he closed his eyes and drifted off to sleep.

He didn’t know how long he slept before waking up in a groggy haze. He felt a pressing urge to urinate, so he put on his clothes, sat up, and crawled out of the igloo to relieve himself. The moment he stepped outside, however, he froze, paralyzed by the scene before him.

There, in the dead of night, standing directly in front of him, was a woman in a white dress with disheveled hair, who moved as if she were boneless.

When the assistant saw the woman in white with her hair hanging loose, he shuddered in fright. He stumbled backward, stammering in terror, ”You... who are you? Don’t tell me you’re the legendary Polar Evil Spirit?”
