Peerless Bodyguard of a Stunning Beauty

Hearing about pancreatic cancer, the assistant said fearfully, ”Pancreatic cancer… Isn’t that what Steve Jobs had? Even someone as rich as him couldn’t cure it. If I get pancreatic cancer, does that mean I can only lie in bed and wait to die?”

Miss Lili frantically looked for cover. ”Pancreatic cancer is the king of cancers!” she said, terrified. ”If you get that, there’s no saving you!”

Yu Lan lifted a manhole cover, ready to jump into the sewer. ”I have a good friend whose husband died a painful death from pancreatic cancer because he ate and drank so much,” she said. ”I don’t want to get pancreatic cancer and die in agony…”

Xuelian expressionlessly touched her stomach and asked, ”Where exactly is the pancreas? Can the organ that secretes insulin even get cancer?”

Just as the assistant and the three women were scrambling for a place to hide, Zhao Rong rushed over and stood in front of them.

”Stop hiding!” he commanded. ”The genetic weapon in that old beggar’s hand is extremely powerful. The moment he throws it near us, everyone within a ten-kilometer radius will be hit and develop cancer. Even if we hide in the sewers, behind cover, or in the air, we can’t escape its reach. We’ll all get some kind of lethal cancer.”

When the assistant heard how powerful the weapon was, he said in despair, ”Big Brother Zhao Rong, what do we do? We can’t just stand here and wait to die, can we?”

Miss Lili looked tense. ”Big Brother Zhao Rong, think of something, quick! It doesn’t matter if it’s just the few of us, but there are tens of thousands of people within a ten-kilometer radius! If tens of thousands of people get cancer all at once, that would be horrifying!”

Yu Lan’s expression was one of terror. ”It’s one thing for the adults and the elderly to get cancer, but there are so many children in this area! If they get hit by the genetic weapon, wouldn’t that be too cruel?”

Xuelian rushed to Zhao Rong’s side with an idea. ”Big Brother, why don’t we rush him, snatch the genetic weapon, and douse it with water so it can’t explode? Wouldn’t that save everyone?”

Seeing their fear, the old beggar cackled. ”Let me tell you, once this thing’s fuse is lit, the explosion is irreversible! Even if you snatch it from my hands, put it out, throw it in the sea, or bury it in the ground, you can’t stop the fission. The genes in everyone around here will mutate, and they will all get cancer!”

The old beggar finished with an arrogant laugh.

Hearing this, the assistant stepped forward and challenged him. ”Since you say everyone within a ten-kilometer radius will be hit by the weapon and get cancer, won’t that include you? Are you also prepared to die with us?”

The old beggar laughed heartily. ”To tell you the truth, I took an anti-cancer drug before using this weapon. It’s a targeted drug. Even if I get cancer, I’ll be completely cured. But you… and everyone else in this ten-kilometer radius… can just wait to die!”

With that, the old beggar tossed the genetic weapon at the feet of Zhao Rong and his group.

He cackled, waiting for the weapon to explode. Soon, everyone within a ten-kilometer radius would be doomed to get cancer and die in agony. The assistant and the three women standing behind Zhao Rong were filled with despair, certain they couldn’t escape the powerful genetic weapon.

In stark contrast, however, Zhao Rong looked relaxed. He was even smiling.

When the assistant and the three women saw Zhao Rong smiling at such a critical, life-or-death moment, they were utterly bewildered.

”Big Brother Zhao Rong, have you no compassion?” the assistant asked. ”The weapon is about to explode, and you’re smiling instead of being upset?”

Puzzled, Miss Lili pushed him, tears welling in her eyes. ”Big Brother Zhao Rong, we’re all about to get cancer and die horrible deaths, and you’re smiling? What’s wrong with you? Do our lives mean nothing to you?!”

Yu Lan looked at Zhao Rong in disbelief. ”Big Brother Zhao Rong, as the saying goes, life is sacred. Are you just going to watch everyone get sick and die?”

Xuelian also stared at him helplessly. ”Big Brother Zhao Rong, why are you smiling? Is this your last smile before you die?”

The assistant, even more distraught than the three women, burst into hysterical tears. ”Big Brother Zhao Rong, I don’t want to die yet! I’m not even married, and I haven’t had the kind of sex life I’ve always wanted!”

Just as everyone was misjudging him, Zhao Rong suddenly pulled a small LED light from his pocket and plugged it into the power bank-like device on the ground. When he saw the LED instantly light up, he smiled at them.

”Alright, we’re fine now,” he said calmly. ”Not only will the genetic weapon not explode, but its energy will also be completely drained.”

Hearing this, the assistant said in disbelief, ”Big Brother Zhao Rong, didn’t the old beggar just say this genetic weapon was irreversible? That once the fuse is lit, it’s guaranteed to explode? How can you say it won’t?”

Miss Lili stepped forward, saw the glowing LED light, and frowned. ”Big Brother Zhao Rong, are you telling me that plugging a five-dollar LED light you bought from a street stall into this thing can stop it from exploding? Isn’t that idea a little too naive and simplistic?”

Yu Lan shook her head, her expression still full of despair. ”Big Brother Zhao Rong must know we’re all going to die. He’s just trying to comfort us so we can die in peace. Let’s not overthink it. Let’s just sit on the ground and quietly wait for the end.”

Xuelian’s face also showed an expression of acceptance. ”Death comes for all, as it has since ancient times. Let my loyal heart be a light in the pages of history. Come at me, genetic weapon, with all your fury! My body may die, but my heart and my spirit never will!”

But just as his companions were dismissing his actions, the old beggar on the other side was so shocked he fell right on his butt.

”Young man… are you an alien?” he stammered in disbelief. ”You actually possess an Antimatter Weapon that can stop a genetic weapon’s explosion? You’re unbelievable!”
