Counterfeit Hero

Chapter 1524: Chapter 9 Volume 33: Blitzkrieg (16)_2

When he tried to command his troops to hold a hilltop, he realized the hilltop had already become an isolated island with no strategic value. The enemy wouldn’t even cross from there.

When his troops went for reinforcements, they walked right into the enemy’s ambush circle and were annihilated.

When his troops completed the flanking maneuver and reached the destination, they found that the enemy was no longer in the original position, and the allied troops responsible for containment had been completely decimated by the quicker maneuvering of the enemy.

Finally, when he issued an order based on battle reports, the battlefield had already changed beyond recognition.

He lost. Defeated by an enemy he’d never met.

That person was now quietly standing by the riverside shaded by green willows, smiling at him warmly, trying to present a charming appearance.

He used his most skillful method to perfectly defeat him.

The sound gradually disappeared. On the SkyNet screen, only the last stronghold was left. It was the stronghold of the 2523rd division’s First Regiment. Before receiving his orders, Colonel Owens had already sent reinforcements to the Second Regiment. Naturally, he lost his troops.

Now, he was still holding on the stronghold. Two armored camps that originally went to flank the bandit army replenished his forces.

With his relatively stolid fighting style, he had better luck than other strongholds.

”Damn it, what’s going on, why are there eight battalions of enemies here!” Owens shouted breathlessly at the liaison officer responsible for contacting him in the communication channel. Accompanied by his roar were the endless sounds of gunfire and explosions on the stronghold.

The entire command post had become a silent grave.

With ashen faces, the staff quietly listened. No one answered Owens’ question; they had no idea how to explain it to him.

”Hold on, hold on!” A cheer came through the communicator, and Owens’ hoarse voice roared, ”They retreated, they retreated! Those damn bastards, that’s all they can do!”

The sound of gunfire continued, growing quieter and gradually calming down.

The staff looked at the large screen. The bandit army seemed uninterested in interfering with this stronghold. They let Owens communicate directly with the command post through the command system and let the frontline data transmit back without obstruction.

The casualty ratio was ten to two. Owens, at the cost of nearly eight hundred Mechas, managed to leave at least one hundred fifty bandit army Mechas in front of the stronghold.

This ratio was ten times higher than the fifty to one ratio of other troops.

Regardless of the outcome, Owens was the hero of this battle!

”Colonel, the enemies have withdrawn from the alert line.”

”Good, make haste, heavy Mechas, quickly retreat to prepare ground for supplies and repairs, engineering platoon repairs stronghold, First Battalion and Second Battalion change defenses.”

Owens was urgently urging in the communication channel.

”Command post, what’s going on, how are the other strongholds,” he hurriedly contacted the command, ”our pressure is immense, if reinforcements do not arrive within half an hour, I fear......”

”Enemy attack!!!!!!”

A piercing scream abruptly cut off Owens’ voice.

Immediately, the channel erupted with gunfire, continuous screams. All sorts of chaotic sounds intertwined, painting just one picture.......

The stronghold was breached!

The staff paled in unison. It was precisely the moment of defense change, and most of those in front were engineering Mechas without combat capabilities. Combat units had retreated to the back, and heavy Mechas and medium-sized Mechas from the firepower stronghold had also left the frontline stronghold.

Under such circumstances, the bandit army’s infiltration almost meant the total annihilation of the First Regiment.

Yet, they clearly heard the bandit army had already retreated and withdrawn from the stronghold’s alert line. Experienced Owens excelled at defense, was known for his steadiness and restraint, and would definitely not make such a low-level mistake!

”What’s happening?! How did the enemies get here, how could they possibly have come up, that’s impossible, that’s impossible!”

The channel was filled with Owens’ incredulous shouted voice.

Everyone could imagine the forty-year-old Colonel shaking the staff’s collar vigorously. He must have wide eyes, a tuft of brown-yellow beard fluttering in the wind.

”Colonel,” a voice trembled, ”those bandit army Mecha wreckages in front of the stronghold, they haven’t been destroyed. They were playing dead......”

That incoherent voice, after a moment, was followed by a series of violent explosions, serving as the final curtain.

When the stronghold cursor of Owens’ regiment dimmed and faded, a staff member standing beside Beize Xian turned to look at his commander.

”Admiral?”

An abnormal flush rose on the old man’s face, and suddenly, his body tilted and he fell headlong!

”Admiral!”

”Medical officer!”

At six in the afternoon, after fierce battles, the bandit army successively broke through Feisha Valley north of Eagle Mountain, Wolf Mountain, and Gyroscope Valley.

Due to Beize Xian’s sudden illness, Jiepeng 25 Army Group had nearly half of its forces committed south of Feisha Valley, therefore, after breaking through Feisha Valley, the battle was already decided. Pushing forward, the bandit army was unstoppable.

In the battle of Wolf Mountain, although the enemy’s 2533rd division’s two armored groups arrived first, they had barely stabilized their position when the bandit army launched relentless fierce attacks.

Although Wolf Mountain’s terrain was treacherous, it required a large force to separately garrison five or six hilltops in front and behind to protect the main stronghold to form a complete defensive system. With only two armored groups, the Jiepeng Army couldn’t completely protect the main stronghold. After resisting for less than twenty minutes, the defense line collapsed.
