The Interstellar Queen of Scavengers

Chapter 1350: Chapter 1150: Acting

In the pitch-black night, Gu Peiyuan and He Nu looked at the distant tower, which was the enemy commander’s residence. The exact number of people inside was unknown.

He Nu and Gu Peiyuan, lacking manpower, did not choose to take action immediately but continued to wait for the right moment.

While waiting, the two remained hidden, trying hard to record and study the enemy’s activities across from them—how they changed shifts, roughly how many minutes between each shift, estimating how many were on duty...

Because the two dared not get too close for fear of being discovered by the enemy, they observed from afar, which greatly affected their observation. Most of the time, they couldn’t see any figures. Only when the enemy shifted the guard, a light would flash by, and they could see the vague silhouettes on the opposite city wall in the dim light to gauge the number of enemies on the wall.

Gu Peiyuan shivered from the cold. He lightly breathed out, and in an instant, a thin layer of ice formed around his mouth and chin. He was speechless, with a wry face, he simply stuck out his tongue and swallowed the thin layer of ice down his throat.

”Hiss~”

Swallowing a mouthful of ice gave him a chill through and through, but it also woke him up a bit.

Gu Peiyuan lowered his voice: ”How long do we have to wait for Ji You to arrive?”

Embarrassingly, their signal tower didn’t cover their current location, meaning they lost contact with Ji You’s army.

However.

Ji You’s intelligence personnel had come once, and they made contact, knowing Ji You and others were at the rear, so their hearts settled a bit.

The enemies on the city wall were so quiet as if they didn’t exist.

But Gu Peiyuan and He Nu knew there were people on the wall, just hiding in some corner, keeping a vigilant watch, and roughly every 5 minutes, they would conduct the next shift change.

Just then—

He Nu suddenly said, ”Quiet.”

”Someone is coming.” He Nu squinted, carefully sensing the Spiritual Net, and said, ”1 minute.”

His voice was very low, almost inaudible, but Gu Peiyuan understood that he meant someone would approach in about 1 minute, so both of them perked up, fully on guard.

”Tap~”

A sound of footsteps approached.

Rustle~

The rustling of leaves followed.

Then, there was silence.

Hearing this, Gu Peiyuan and He Nu’s tense hearts suddenly relaxed, so He Nu picked up a stone by his foot and tapped it lightly.

”Thud~”

It was very faint, already hard to hear from 2-3 meters away.

But!

The newcomers, along with the vigilant Gu and He, all relaxed.

”Former comman...der, cough...” The newcomer quickly covered the words that slipped out and then said earnestly, ”Students Gu and He...”

She then moved closer and said, ”Commander Ji You ordered us to support you. Team 1 and 2, making a total of 60 people.”

The voice sounded familiar.

No!

Very familiar, indeed.

And don’t think I didn’t catch on to you wanting to call me former commander.

Heh~

Gu Peiyuan felt quite uneasy but said nothing, just gave a sidelong glance to the other person and snorted, ”Just this handful of people, what can they do? Beggars can’t be choosers?”

He Dun was also surprised and said, ”If we’re to attack the enemy, the numbers are indeed a bit too few.”

Because, according to Commander Ji You’s plan, to ambush Lou’s army, these people would be more suitable staying by Ji You’s side, all 60 of them.

The one leading was a girl with delicate features, but she kept a stern face when looking at Gu Peiyuan, acting very business-like: ”The commander didn’t send us to attack. We’re here to put on a show.”

That’s right.

The girl speaking was none other than Gu Peiyuan’s old subordinate—student Guan Ning.

As Gu Peiyuan’s former right-hand, now seeing Gu Peiyuan, who had been stripped of his commander position and was just an ordinary soldier, Guan Ning’s feelings were somewhat complex.

Gu Peiyuan’s eyebrow twitched at the words ’put on a show’:

A show?

How?

What kind of show?

A combat department genius, now about to put on a show?

Guan Ning outlined Ji You’s detailed plan systematically. Suddenly, Gu Peiyuan and He Nu understood everything—

But acting was not their forte.

Then.

Guan Ning suddenly straightened her face and said, ”Let’s fall back 1000 meters. I’ll start it in a bit, wait for my signal.”

Retreating a bit was to avoid being hit by the enemy’s long-range weapons. Although the current position was probably safe enough, as a precaution, retreating a little further seemed wise.

Gu Peiyuan and He Nu had no objections.

Thus—

The team led by Guan Ning retreated 1000 meters.

After retreating, the enemy was shifting guards. Suddenly, Guan Ning took out two wooden boards, knocked them loudly, and shouted, ”Charge!”

”Charge!”

The 60 people behind her, all holding weapons, made a racket, intermittently letting out huge roars. The boisterous shouting of more than 60 people, coupled with the tools, made their momentum look grand and mighty.

Gu Peiyuan, He Nu: ”...”

On the city wall, the enemy, in the middle of a shift change, was startled by the loud commotion:

”Oh no!”

”Enemy attack!”

”Quickly!”

In an instant, the enemy was on high alert and began to prepare in an orderly manner.

Guan Ning kept shouting, her voice sharp, occasionally letting out a few piercing howls, making it seem as if a major battle was unfolding to someone unaware of the inside story!

Seeing her perform so skillfully, He Nu felt no psychological burden at all and started howling along with her, while Gu Peiyuan was initially hesitant but then thought that since it was so dark, people probably couldn’t see his face clearly. He steeled himself and started howling as well.

In no time, the sounds of swords clashing and howling erupted, creating the illusion of a massive battle breaking out.

The enemy soldiers standing on the wall, ready for combat, were stunned!

What?

Commander Charles came back with reinforcements?

Are they crying out so miserably?

...

No.

Something’s wrong.

Soon, their bewildered faces realized, this didn’t seem like Commander Charles returning. If he had returned, he would have surely ordered everyone to surround and kill the enemy, wouldn’t he?

Hearing that enemy troops were attacking, the enemy squad leader hurriedly ran up the wall to observe.

Initially, he saw nothing unusual, but suddenly thinking of something, the squad leader immediately shouted, ”Fire! All archers, fire!”

Whoosh whoosh whoosh—

Arrows rained down like a torrent! The distance between the two was quite far, and hitting the enemy required great strength and accuracy.

He Nu and Gu Peiyuan and others retreated a few meters further.
