The Interstellar Queen of Scavengers

Chapter 1326: Chapter 1326: Stop Worrying About Me

When Wang Xin led the main force away to dig for wild vegetables, he actually felt quite uneasy, because the enemy across the river had clearly shown some signs, and he guessed there wouldn’t be too many people on the other side. According to Wang Xin’s estimate, there were at most 20 people across, but on their side?

Wang Xin’s wild vegetable digging team had 30 people, fighting more with fewer, and taking advantage of the unpreparedness and surprise attack would certainly succeed in an ambush.

But!

Ji You asked them to return. Upon hearing this, Wang Xin didn’t hesitate at all and decisively retreated to the base.

The reason?

There was only one reason: he trusted Ji You.

That’s why Wang Xin made the resolute decision to return to the base.

Someone in the team questioned: ”Captain, are we really just going to leave such a great opportunity?”

”Yeah. We left too abruptly.”

”After we leave the riverbank, that large area is now empty. If the enemy across discovers it and takes the opportunity to sneak over here? Wouldn’t they penetrate deeply?”

”Captain, how about I go back?”

”Captain, let me go back. I’ll return with Chen Qi to keep watch. If any enemy tries to sneak over here, we’ll make sure they won’t return.”

”Captain, should I go too?”

The team members said this while watching Wang Xin’s expression, noticing no change on his face, neither agreeing nor showing any clear opposition.

Hmm?

Is there something else wrong?

Everyone thought so, suddenly seeing Wang Xin turn his head and say to them, ”Our task is to dig wild vegetables. The mission is over, so everyone relax and get ready to have a big meal when we return.”

The teammates: ”?!?!”

Wang Xin said, ”The Commander said so! Said we’ve worked hard digging wild vegetables, and we should have a good meal when we get back!”

At first, everyone’s stomachs were already empty, and now they felt even hungrier.

But—

Someone voiced their concern: ”Teammate, are we really not going to care about the border river?”

”Care about what?” Wang Xin said, full of confidence, ”If the Commander told us to retreat, she must have a plan; we don’t need to worry.”

”That’s true!” The person asking nodded in deep agreement.

So, no one thought about the enemy on the riverbank anymore. They all quickened their pace, eager to return to the base quickly to eat and drink to their heart’s content.

On the other side.

Opposite where Wang Xin and his group were digging wild vegetables, after launching an arrow across, more than a minute had passed, and five students crouched behind a large stone, turning their bodies to secretly watch the other side of the river.

In the pitch-black night, it was impossible to see the situation across, and listening closely, they couldn’t detect any movements either.

”No one?”

”There really seems to be no one.”

”Did they really leave?”

...

Silence.

A silence as dead as death.

A burly boy said, ”I don’t believe they’ve really left. They must be hiding somewhere dark, waiting for us to take the bait.”

”Keep observing.”

The five of them stayed put, continuing to squat and wait.

minute.

minutes.

minutes.

...

Still no movement across. Apart from the sound of the wind and the rustling of leaves, there were no other sounds. Even the usually active Drilling Bird seemed to be resting this time...

”Should we sneak over?”

No one replied.

”I’ll go!” A boy couldn’t help himself. He stood up, feeling his way with his fingers, and said, ”Either way, I have to find out for sure.”

Waiting isn’t a solution.

The usually silent squad leader suddenly said, ”Wait a moment.”

The boy stopped: ”Captain, I’ll just go and come back?”

The captain asked, ”What did we hear across the river from the 5th Battalion just now? What did it sound like?”

The other four thought about it, and a girl said, ”Sounded like they were digging something...”

”Exactly.” The captain’s face sank, ”Across is empty, an obvious guise inviting us into a trap. If we sneak over now, we’ll fall for their trick.”

Everyone was startled by what they heard.

Then the captain said, ”Now think about what they might be digging near the riverbank... what do you think they could be digging for?”

The four across fell into thought, and soon someone’s eyes widened, ”A trap?”

”Is it a trap?”

”It must be a trap!” The captain suddenly concluded, ”Don’t you remember how He Zhen got taken out?”

Someone immediately replied, ”Killed by a trap!”

”That trap almost wiped out the entire 6th squad, burying dozens of people.”

Recalling the incident, even the captain couldn’t help showing a hint of fear in his eyes. He pursed his lips, reflecting, ”There must be someone extremely skilled in traps within the enemy camp.”

He continued thoughtfully, with deep black eyes, ”Across is a trap.”

Their blatant departure meant they had something to rely on.

”So, what do we do?”

Continue to keep watch?

Now, with the cold wind cutting in, everyone’s greatest reliance was a straw coat, but it wasn’t warm enough! They relied on their bodies and willpower to resist.

The captain raised his hand, ”Shi Yuan, you go back and report the situation here to Captain Louis.”

”The rest, keep watching.” The captain squinted, deciding if the enemy doesn’t move, they won’t either.

The temperature was dropping fast, and staying here much longer would likely exceed their physical limits.

So, seeking Captain Louis’s orders was of utmost importance.

The boy named Shi Yuan received the task and didn’t hesitate a moment, immediately setting out.

**

On the other side.

Louis looked out at the extremely cold weather, a hint of worry flashing in his eyes. Bad weather, movement hindered, various obstacles arising. Yet, for the enemy, this was a very good attack opportunity.

Thinking this, Louis felt a chill in his heart.

Because, he knew Ji You well, Ji You was someone who would absolutely challenge herself in extreme environments to make something big happen, so she was surely secretly planning something.

Meanwhile—

”Achoo—” Ji You held a bowl filled with hot wild onion porridge, and having a bowl of porridge on a cold day was exceptionally comforting. Just as she finished a gulp and served herself another bowl, she suddenly sneezed loudly.

Ji You wiped her nose, giggled, ”Is someone thinking of me? Could it be silly Louis?”

”Achoo—” Ji You sneezed again. Catching a cold? Ji You frowned, ”Are they thinking of me too? I’m having hot soup and porridge and staying in a shelter, living comfortably. You don’t have to think about me.”

At this moment, Louis also sneezed violently. He frowned, thinking maybe it was the cold and he was catching a cold?

Just then, a student came in to report, ”Captain, we have new information to report.”

Louis said, ”Speak.”
