The Interstellar Queen of Scavengers

Chapter 1317: Chapter 1317: Establishing Communications

Ji You looked at the girl in front of her, who was a head taller than herself, and couldn’t help but laugh, saying, ”A hundred pounds of food is like carrying a small kitten, impressive, big sister!”

Girl: ”...”

The girl threw the food on the ground, her face darkened, ”What are you talking about? I’m only 19, not a big sister.”

Ji You chuckled and said, ”Don’t bother about these trivial details, okay?”

Saying that, she squatted down, tore open the food packaging, and upon seeing that it was all polished white rice, her eyes lit up with joy, and she exclaimed, ”Great! Great! Great!”

She used the word ’great’ three times to express her happiness. Because this was indeed good food.

It was very good food.

Getting closer, she could smell a faint fragrance, evidently, it was expensive natural food. Not the bad-tasting synthetic white rice! Unexpectedly, the competition organizers were so generous.

Ji You immediately asked, ”How much of this kind of food is left?”

The girl replied, ”None.”

Ji You’s heart skipped a beat, ”???”

The girl saw her incredulous expression, nodded, and confirmed, ”None, that’s all there is.”

Ji You widened her eyes, ”What did you say? Are you sure?”

The girl nodded.

Ji You’s hands trembled, ”I’m giving you one more chance, seriously, say that again.”

Even Cheng Haoyue and He Nu nearby found it hard to accept this reality. Cheng Haoyue clutched her chest and said, ”Are you kidding us? A hundred pounds of food for a thousand people? How could that be enough?”

He Nu said, ”Did someone hide it?”

Hide it?

This word touched on character. The girl said with a stern face, somewhat angrily, ”No. Not only me, but even the for... former commander didn’t hide it. None of us have touched the food in advance.”

The food was scarce and clearly not enough for everyone.

How long this game would last, how long this tug-of-war would continue, no one knew. Maybe it would end soon, or maybe it would last for several days... but there was so little food, it wasn’t enough for everyone in the team. Commander Gu Peiyuan, upon learning of this situation, had no choice but to eliminate some people first before distributing the food.

Only those who survive and last till the end are eligible to enjoy the food. This method also helps to screen out truly strong elite soldiers, who are key to victory on the battlefield.

The girl pursed her lips and said, ”This bag of food is locked in the weapons warehouse. Only the commander and I know about it. No one else has the key. Our plan is not to touch it unless absolutely necessary.”

She never expected that the first thing Ji You did after taking over was to dig out this precious bag of food. And it seemed like she was going to indulge in a feast...

”Wait!”

”Hold on a second.” Ji You clutched her chest, her figure wavering, ”Do you mean there’s nothing else besides this bag of rice? No staples, no side dishes... nothing?”

”Hmm.” The girl nodded, then thought her answer wasn’t precise enough, and added, ”There are other things.”

Ji You’s eyes lit up as she looked at her.

Under Ji You’s expectant gaze, the girl said, ”There’s one bag of seasonings, probably a pound of salt, a pound of oil, a pound of sugar.”

Ji You: ”...”

Ji You fell silent.

One second later.

Ji You yelled angrily, ”Darn it! The competition organizers are really stingy, aren’t they? Are they just trying to barely keep us from starving to death with this little food?”

The girl said, ”That’s what the former commander and I also think.”

Ji You pulled her hair and said, ”Let’s just quit fighting. Everyone just tightens their belts and see who can last longer without food. Whoever starves first loses.”

The girl, He Nu, Cheng Haoyue: ”...”

The atmosphere in the small stone house was very depressing.

Then.

Ji You suddenly said, ”Big sister, you first...”

The girl twitched her mouth and interrupted her, ”I’m not called big sister, I’m Guan Ning.” She increasingly felt that this new commander was unreliable, and it made her start to doubt the United University’s rankings...

”Oh oh...” Ji You chuckled, not embarrassed at all, and said, ”Sister Guan Ning, first follow my instructions and quickly arrange everyone. First, reassign people to guard the 10 checkpoints. Second, quickly find 10 people who have minor studies in communication equipment and are proficient in it, and also arrange at least 100 people who understand the communication system to help build the communication system.”

”...” Guan Ning was very surprised, almost forgetting her annoyance when she heard Ji You’s instructions.

Does this mean?

It means setting up a communication system in the Commander Camp?

That would really be convenient.

But!

Is it feasible?

Guan Ning’s doubts flashed by, but then she thought if Ji You dared to make such a grand arrangement, she must have a good idea of what she’s doing. So she said, ”I will arrange it properly.”

Ji You said, ”I see you’ve already set up a suggested communication network along the 10 checkpoints. Besides these 10 checkpoints, you’ve probably set up others, right? Then just build and expand on your existing lines.”

Guan Ning was shocked. Since Ji You knew about this, her doubts about Ji You and the United University ranking lessened a bit, and she said, ”The network we set up can connect 10 military bases and regiments 1, 2, and 3. We haven’t had time to set up for the other regiments yet.” Of course, limited by technology and materials, these communication networks were very primitive, unable to transmit human voices or text, only simple signals like a single knock to indicate all is stable. Two knocks indicate something abnormal, needs attention. Three knocks...

In short, it couldn’t transmit specific information, and the receiver must accurately remember the codes.

After Guan Ning finished talking, she expected to see a disappointed expression on Ji You’s face, but instead, Ji You was very pleased and said, ”Exactly, for regiments 4-10, I’ve already arranged for coverage in advance. Once both sides connect, it’s a done deal.”

The girl stared wide-eyed, ”!!! When did you do that?”

Ji You said, ”Previously.”

”No.” Guan Ning stumbled over her words, ”I mean, when, and how did you manage to do it right under our eyes, the commander’s and mine?”

This big of a move, and neither she nor Commander Gu Peiyuan noticed anything at all.

Ji You waved her hand, her tone very casual, and said, ”Of course, I did it behind your backs.”

”No.” Guan Ning was very unsettled, ”How did you do it behind our backs?”

Ji You did not answer but suddenly looked up at her and said, ”Do you even need to ask? Of course, it’s because you’re not sharp enough, you’re foolish, otherwise, how could I stand here and talk to you so brazenly?”

Girl: ”...”
