Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 1637: Chapter 1621: Going NBACk on One’s Word

”I think you should know how popular Picasso’s works are on the market now. If our business doesn’t reach an agreement, I’m not afraid to tell you the truth. Any one of these works of mine can attract thousands of collectors to chase after them. As long as I name my conditions, there will always be someone willing to exchange Huaxia artifacts with me. I don’t necessarily have to linger in your castle.”

Huo Sining had a half-smiling expression on her face, but her words made Adrien’s face change drastically.

Over the years, he and his father have sought to purchase Picasso’s works all over the world. Adrien is very aware of how difficult this process is, so he knows very well that Huo Sining’s words are not false.

If Huo Sining truly took these paintings outside, there would definitely be many people looking to buy them. Although he’s not sure if anyone can offer such generous terms as he does, with Huo Sining’s temperament and negotiation tactics, she likely won’t suffer a loss.

If all these paintings are sold by then, it will be difficult for him to buy them back.

Now that the opportunity is right in front of him, he certainly cannot easily let so many works slip away from him.

”Miss Huo, you misunderstood me. When I mentioned holding a family meeting, it was essentially just a notification and consultation with family members. With the will of my great-grandfather and grandfather, both my family members and I hope to acquire more of Picasso’s works, so you don’t need to worry about us breaking our promise.”

”After all, I am now the head of the Albert family. Since the agreement is signed, there will be no reneging. Our Albert family values credibility and will definitely not let Miss Huo suffer a loss.”

Adrien’s expression was urgent, and he was trying hard to explain to Huo Sining, his eyes occasionally falling on those Picasso paintings, as if he was afraid she’d get angry and take them away.

Of course, Huo Sining wouldn’t really fall out with Adrien like this. There are many things in the old fellow’s collection that she fancies. If she really left like this, she definitely wouldn’t be able to exchange for so many things she desires from other collectors.

But on the surface, she still needed to appear indifferent to convey her nonchalance, making Adrien panic internally, so she could always maintain control and not be led by the nose by this old Earl.

”Mr. Adrien, I’m not an unreasonable person. I think you should be aware that if it weren’t for the fact that we have a connection, in today’s situation, I would have certainly turned around and left immediately.”

”I value the friendship between us. As for your character, Mr. Adrien, I still have faith, so I won’t hold it against you this time.”

”Regarding the family meeting you mentioned, I’m not aware of the situation, so I’ll temporarily agree. My husband and I will stay in London for a day. If you can’t give me an answer by tomorrow afternoon, then our agreement will be automatically void, and I definitely won’t sell the Picasso paintings to you anymore.”

Hearing this, Adrien showed a look of gratitude in his eyes. ”Rest assured, Miss Huo, I will quickly notify the family members to hold a meeting. It won’t be delayed for long. Why don’t you stay in my castle for now, and when the meeting is over, I’ll inform you of the results. What do you think?”

However, Huo Sining waved her hand to interrupt Adrien, ”No, we’ll stay at a hotel. Rest assured, since I’ve agreed to wait until tomorrow afternoon, I won’t go back on my word. This is my principle, and you can be assured of that.”

Her words seemed to accuse him of being promise-breaking, and Adrien felt as though he’d been slapped in the face, his face heating up with embarrassment. ”Alright then, I’ll have the butler escort you back to the hotel. We’ll discuss the specifics after I finish the meeting.”

Huo Sining nodded, signaling Gu Xu to pack up the paintings again.

Gu Xu quickly and carefully re-rolled the paintings and placed them into a brocade box.

Over on that side, Augustin and Adrien were watching with their eyes fixed, each showing a reluctant look on their faces. They valued these twelve works greatly, and seeing Gu Xu put them away, they became anxious, fearing that once taken away, they might never see these paintings again.

But Adrien also knew clearly that he had no position to stop Huo Sining from reclaiming those paintings. As a collector himself, he understood well that in the collection market, the seller is king, especially for top artworks like Picasso’s, which are never short of buyers. Wealthy people abound in this world, and if he wanted to acquire those cherished paintings, he had to show his sincerity. Otherwise, he wouldn’t be able to move Huo Sining, the buyer.

Back at the hotel from the castle, the silent Su Qingqing finally couldn’t hold back, ”Ningning, we’ve just come back like this. What if the Albert family meeting vetoes the agreement between you and Mr. Earl?”

Huo Sining responded with a scheming expression, smiling, ”They won’t. From Adrien’s expression, you can tell he’s really concerned about these Picasso paintings. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have offered such an unequal condition as a one-for-twenty exchange.”

”You haven’t seen inside his collection room, so you don’t know the situation.”

”The Albert family has deep foundations, coming from a large cache of antiques and artifacts plundered from Huaxia during the coalition forces’ invasion.”

”But it doesn’t mean they lack ambition. I can tell that Adrien very much wants to grow his family enterprise during his time.”

”Adrien hopes to develop his collection into a world-class museum. However, gaining international collector recognition is impossible without European and American artworks. That’s also why Adrien is so persistent about collecting European antiques and even proposes that if I have European antiques that can impress them, they can exchange them with Huaxia artifacts.”

”In their collection room, there are countless Huaxia artifacts. They don’t mind exchanging a small portion of Huaxia artifacts for European antiques. As the saying goes, scarcity increases value, and I can guess Adrien’s mindset to some extent. He probably sees the value of Huaxia artifacts as incomparable to Picasso’s works.”

”Moreover, Picasso’s works can’t be measured by market circulating prices. I think even if the Albert family has to take a little loss, they won’t miss such a good opportunity. After all, it’s not easy to find a dozen authentic Picasso paintings. There’s no shop after missing this village. I think they can distinguish the priorities and won’t quibble under such circumstances.”
