Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 1604: Chapter 1588: Daughter Enthusiast

Huo Sining was still a bit confused, ”What does this have to do with a soft spot?”

Old Mr. Zhong laughed, ”Of course, my principles are completely insignificant in front of my soft spot. Whatever she wants, whatever she does, as long as I’m still alive and have the strength, I will unconditionally fulfill her wishes.”

Upon hearing this, Huo Sining’s heart skipped a beat, suddenly realizing something, and she glanced at the girl in the swimming pool, ”The soft spot you’re talking about is...”

Old Mr. Zhong nodded, ”That’s right.”

Huo Sining was amazed, ”I found it strange just now, but I didn’t have time to ask. At your age, you must be well over seventy, so why do you call this little girl your daughter?”

Given Old Mr. Zhong’s age, his daughter should be around thirty or forty years old, right? How could she be so young? Looking at the girl’s appearance, she couldn’t be more than eighteen, just like Wu Ya, still a naive young girl.

”Since you know my sister, you should know what happened to me when I was young.”

”Back then, due to my negligence, my youngest daughter was kidnapped. I refused to compromise and cooperate in forgery, which ultimately led to my youngest daughter’s death.”

”At that time, I regretted it so much. I would have gladly exchanged my life for hers, but there’s no remedy for regret in this world. Back then, I was devastated and solely wanted to retreat into the Void. So, I went straight to the Qingxu Taoist Temple and became a Taoist halfway through life.”

Saying this, Old Mr. Zhong paused, as if recalling something, and after a moment, he continued:

”Decades flew by, an entire life spent in mediocrity, and the only guilt I carry is towards my youngest daughter. I thought I could only repay what I owed her once I descended into hell, but unexpectedly, just when I was about to be laid to rest, someone suddenly came to find me, offering me a remedy for regret.”

”A remedy for regret?”

Huo Sining was startled, suddenly realizing the meaning behind Old Mr. Zhong’s words, her eyes showing shock and disbelief, and she quickly turned her head to look at the girl in the swimming pool.

”The remedy you speak of, is it her?”

Old Mr. Zhong displayed a faint smile, ”Yes, that person brought a little girl to see me. Although decades had passed, from the first glance, I knew it was my child.”

Huo Sining was taken aback, exchanging a glance with Gu Xu, ”But didn’t you say that the child had already died? Moreover, after decades, if she were still alive, how could she still be so young?”

”I know what you’re doubting. In fact, I had the same doubts as you back then. I couldn’t believe my child was still alive, and after decades, how she could still be so young? But that child is indeed my youngest, proven by the paternity test results. Moreover, the birthmark and even the burn scar on her back are exactly the same. There’s no mistake.”

Old Mr. Zhong sighed, ”I used to be a non-believer, but after joining the Dao Men, I gradually developed different views. There are so many things in this world that can’t be explained by science, just like what you see before you. This child, she is not human. Perhaps she is more akin to what is described in books, a Jiaoren (merfolk).”

Huo Sining nodded.

Old Mr. Zhong continued, ”However, regardless of what this child is, she is my child. I don’t have much time left; I only hope to ensure her safety before I rest in peace. Whatever she wants, I’m willing to fulfill, as a form of recompense for the decades I owe her.”

Huo Sining then remembered that Old Mr. Zhong had said this girl was his soft spot and also claimed that those imitation pieces weren’t his work, which gave rise to a ridiculous suspicion in Huo Sining’s mind.

”Sir, are you suggesting that those Zhong Fang pieces might actually be her creations?”

Old Mr. Zhong gave Huo Sining a knowing look, ”You’re not completely clueless, being able to think this far.”

As he spoke, Old Mr. Zhong looked proudly at the girl in the pool, ”Xiao Lian is very intelligent and talented. She learns whatever she sets her mind to very quickly. Curiously, she is particularly skilled in enamel painting and metalworking. What she creates is remarkably lifelike, even surpassing my own efforts.”

Enamel paintings often use gold and silver threads for inlay or depiction, and metalworking goes without saying. Since the girl is the owner of the Golden Spirit Pearl, her use of it is, of course, highly proficient, especially in the craft of imitating antiquities, which is only to be expected.

Huo Sining never expected that those Zhong Fang pieces were actually made by this little girl.

”This child is innocent and doesn’t realize that her creations could cause such a stir in the market. She just creates on a whim, and when she feels like it, she gives them away to whoever she fancies.”

Old Mr. Zhong looked a bit helpless, seemingly troubled by the girl’s behavior:

”I can’t bear to be strict, so I just let her be. As a father, I think any normal person would understand. I’ve owed my child for decades, and I just wish to spend my remaining years by her side, seeing her happy every day. I have nothing else to ask for.”

Inwardly, Huo Sining couldn’t help but think, who could possibly understand that? This is clearly a case of severe daughter spoiling, doting on her with no principles at all!

Huo Sining only dared to think this and didn’t dare to voice it in front of Old Mr. Zhong. She was worried that if she did, the old man might get angry and broom her out.

Curiously, Huo Sining looked at the girl in the pool again and then asked:

”I remember Madam Yan saying she was only seven when she was kidnapped and killed. So how old was she when she was returned, seven, or the way she looks now?”

Old Mr. Zhong raised an eyebrow, smiling wryly, ”Young lady, I only wanted to ask you one thing, yet you asked me a mountain of questions. It’s a bit unfair, isn’t it?”

Huo Sining remembered that Old Mr. Zhong had mentioned wanting to ask her something, and she couldn’t help but laugh:

”Please, go ahead and ask.”

Old Mr. Zhong fixed his gaze on Huo Sining for several seconds before he asked:

”Do you know a woman named Huang Chengxiang?”

Huo Sining’s eyebrows twitched, and she suddenly looked up, surprised at Old Mr. Zhong, ”What?”
